This New Year, we decided to add some extra magic by experiencing the snowy hills of Himachal Pradesh. With my trusty Thar 4x4 in tow, we set off to witness snow-covered landscapes, enjoy thrilling snow activities, and create lasting memories. Journey Begins: Shimla to Kufri
After an exciting drive from Delhi to Shimla, we woke up to chilly air and beautiful views of the hill station. Our goal was simple: to explore Shimla, Kufri, and Narkanda in the snow. As we hit the road from Shimla, the weather started to change, and I could already see the first signs of snow on the roadsides. Kufri, just 16 km away from Shimla, welcomed us with snowy landscapes that were perfect for starting our snow adventure.
First Snow Sighting in Kufri
The excitement was real as we started seeing the first patches of snow on the roadside. Driving in my Thar, we made our way through snow-covered trees and winding paths, feeling like we were entering a magical winter wonderland. The view of snow-clad mountains, the crisp air, and the frosty atmosphere were just what we needed to set the tone for the day. We parked the Thar to get out and feel the snow on our hands for the first time.
Heading to Narkanda: Snow Continues to Amaze
After a fun-filled morning in Kufri, we decided to head further up to Narkanda, located about 60 km away. This area is a hidden gem when it comes to snow tourism. The drive from Kufri to Narkanda was scenic, with roads covered in fresh snow.
Narkanda: A Winter Wonderland
Narkanda, known for its skiing, snow-covered hills, and serene atmosphere, was the highlight of our trip. Upon arrival, we immediately headed to Hatu Peak, which at 3400 meters offers an unparalleled view of the snow-clad mountains and valleys. The trek up to the peak was challenging, but the views at the top were absolutely worth it.
Snow Activities in Narkanda
One of the major reasons we chose Narkanda was the opportunity to experience skiing for the first time. While none of us were pros, we had an incredible time learning and falling on the snow. Skiing is such a thrilling activity, and there’s something special about doing it in such a scenic place. After skiing, we enjoyed some hot food to warm up and continued exploring the area.
The weather in Narkanda was perfect for snow play, and we could have stayed there forever.
