It is so cool to see a plane crazy content creator that actually spends time explaining to the people that don’t always know about helicopters lnformation
I was able to fix the problem of tail rotor roll thanks to your help, but now I have another less severe issue with my helicopter. As I increase collective, my helicopter likes to yaw more. I believe this is because of the Coriolis affect (a.k.a. The Law of Conservation of Angular Momentum.) I have a semi-rigid single rotor design (2 blades only). As I increase collective pitch, the blades move up and the speed of the blades increase because the center of mass is moving closer to the axis of rotation. The only way I could think of fixing this yaw issue is by creating lead-lag hinges, but I do not know how to make them. My swashplate design is similar to the one in your tutorial, and I was wondering if you could potentially make a video or have some way to show lead-lag hinges on your previous swashplate tutorial. Thanks again for all your help. You have really been a game changer for me.
You can fix this issue by adding motor1's to tail rotor blades that increase angle along with the collective. So what it would look like is 2 motors stacked on the tail rotor blades. Motor 1 for fixed angle (to counter main rotor torque) and another Motor 1 that increases along with the collective. This way, you don't have to add lead drag hinges. Btw, although you are right that this phenomenon is the coriolis effect, it can only happen on helis with flapping hinges. This yaw-more-as-collective-i creased effect also happens with systems with no flapping hinge (like semi rigid system). And it happens in these systems because as you increase the collective, the blades produces more drag in the air. This in turn makes the rotor want to stay in position more, giving more torque to the body, ergo, more yaw. Personally, i dont like stacking motors on tail rotor blades, so I just kinda deal with the heli yawing more. Plane crazy is more scientifically accurate than most people think.
yall wondering how to fix that helicopter washplate yeah just angle to rotor blades like this it fixed my problem where it just went nose down and to the side when i press w 0:21
Neg im stuck on making a dual bladed heli i mean rigid motor system does not work with dual bladed helis it just spins around maybe i set the motor to lock
This guide was very helpful! I am making my own swashplates now, but for some reason my own designs of helicopters like to immediately roll to the right. Do you know why this is happening? I am assuming because there are no lead drag systems for my rotor blades, but I also recall them not being necessary in Plane Crazy.
Not necessarily the lack of lead drag, but rather your tail rotor being not aligned with the center of mass. Basically this happens because the tail rotor is applying a roll force to the body where the center of mass is the pivot point. You can easily fix this by placing counter weights on the other side. This is called tail rotor roll btw
@@ngd931 Alright, I will try that. I really appreciate your help, and your guides have even allowed me to make some coaxial swashplates that no longer allow the need for an anti torque like a tail rotor. I am challenging myself to build a helicopter with a single rotor system, more specifically a Huey. I think this information will be helpful regardless of if it solves the immediate roll to the right problem, which could also just be my bad swashplate designs. Thanks again!
