That bloke helping you out was pretty decent. That slide viewer is old school. We use to get the images from my 35ml film made into slides rather than printed on to paper. Not seen one of those for many yrs

If anything is not clean you can clean it instead of leaving it unless its mega covered i guess. Plus why not take reusable bags to pop the stuff in yiu get ? Just an idea
A slide is what we used to put photos on to save them back in the seventies eighties maybe even earlier, technology replaced them, this vintage viewer lets people see slides that may still have from the past
