@@fishypie couldn't agree more, ireland is plagued by them..I was fishin last week, lovely polish family came up to me, asked if I caught any pike, I showd them a pic of a pike I csught in the same swim a week earlier. We don't kill or eat pike, we respect and want the fish to thrive, and occasionally catch them for sport ! I'd also like to add , perch numbers are being decimated by ppl from Africa (and Eastern Europe) , who view all perch as nile perch ffs problem is that African/ Europeans are takin perch of any size, I seen one very nice young man of Irish and African decent, take a fish of 4 ounces home to his dad to eat , wtf like !!! Good to see that the Pike was not just released without first making sure it was strong enough to swim away strongly, well done, seen quite a few Pike put back and they float to the surface out of reach of the landing net.
Lovely pike, always nice to hold one this size for sure. what's better is the way it was handled, unhooked, put back. People assume because of their appearance and nature that they are a hardy fish but it simply is not true. You can seriously damage or even kill pike far easier than almost all other species. I hope just as many tutorials are given on pike fishing in regard to unhooking, when to strike properly and early enough, handling and so forth as there are on catching them.
@@-BOOMA- They are for sure one of my all-time favourite. I've had them up to 38lb 12oz over the last 30 years but I treat a jack with the same care I do a big old girl. Saying that I love all species, although I am hooked on carp fishing now all over Europe and parts of the world and have been for some years, I still love all species whether tench, rudd, bream, roach etc and even eels. Currently live in Germany after moving from UK, it's closer to France where I am which is nice but the pike fishing here in Germany I cant wait to explore now too. Anyway you are right, pike are beautiful.
@@Jessebella1 38lb 12 oz that's a monster! Iv been pike fishing around 15years and had them to 27lb 9oz. Iv had 4 20lb + fish and 2 over 25lb. All caught out the river. I'm also hooked on carping right now but saying that pike season is now here In the UK ! So il be pike fishing the next 4 months. Looks some good stuff in Germany 👌
@@-BOOMA- Yep she was awesome mate, had this pike about 28 years back mind you. Yep carp fishing seems to do that doesn't it, I've been hooked on carp fishing all over the world now for probably 14 years, although I can't get about half as much as I used to, I still love it and have had some amazing carp up to 71lb (non uk fish), altho like you would know the best ones are not always the biggest with carp, in fact, most of my favorites are mid 20 or less. Hey, those pike you speak about are great sizes, I may have had a 38,12 but till then I was having mid doubles mostly and the odd 20s, it's not as I went out and wacked 30s out regularly, as nice as that would be! but I've had a lot of nice fish in my life, Im either lucky or its because I literally lost my life to fishing for 25 or so years and literally lived on bank sides lol I think that helped a long way to being successful and getting lucky every so often anyway. I'm from the UK and lived there almost my entire life, I'm just now for the past 6 or so years on a weird journey that's somehow got me living here in Germany lol Long story. Anyway, get yourself out there mate, pike fishing from October onward is great, go beat my pb, its out there somewhere for you. o/
John, nice fish! Do little ponds freeze over in the UK? I think it's really cool to see the same species of fish being caught an ocean apart. It makes me realize many years ago were were one big continent.

Pleasure to watch. Wonderful fish and some superb handling. Thank you for the inspiration and showing how to respect the sport and the fish.
Thanks for your kind comments
Great angling skills and respect for a tremendous looking fish. Thanks for sharing.
Nice fish.
Amazing the respect anglers give to Pike these day, many years ago they were treated with contempt and were brutality discarded.
they still treated badly by the poles, not all of them i might add

Great angling buddy. Kept it out those snags and put it back in a quick manner with all the gear to keep these beasts in top form!
Wot an excellent example of 'how it's done'. Nice one mate, did well.

The common perception of pike needs to change. They are very very easily damaged. But they also are the most beautiful of all species
