What joy!! These actors and actresses knew their craft completely. Exquisite diction and projection, so that they could deliver rapid comedic lines with clarity, ease and expression. I was so lucky to have grown up watching this level of performance. I remember seeing Patrick Cargill at the Theatre Royal, Brighton, at about this time (With a young Richard Beckinsale in leapard skin underpants!!!). Superb farceur!! Thank you!!
What a lovely cast ! Great to see Bernard Bresslaw too - a handsome man & a good actor. Didnt expect to see Dennis Waterman in a farce, but he did well also. 😊
What a wonderful farce with excess of doors, complete confusion, exaggerated accents performed running speed , with wonderful cast of the past. Such wonderful look back to the good old days with subtle and not so subtle dialogue.
I love the asides to the audience! And of course, Dame Patricia Routledge is always a delight! And Frank Middlemas ("Rocky Hardcastle" in "As Time Goes By") is an added bonus!
I recognize the Mike Sammes Singers singing the theme tune. Very distinctive , warm voices in harmony , especially Mike Sammes and his partner Enid Heard.
That was quite fantastic 🤩 you do have to just give yourself up to it. What a star studded cast! And the ladies costumes were so good too. Oddly the end seemed a little abrupt,as though they were on stage, suddenly realised they'd overrun and jumped to the end.Any more farces?
@@zerotoleranceforsataniceli4794 I think it's just not a type of theatre that I have ever enjoyed, and it gave me flashbacks to rainy days in the 1970s and my bored teenage self. 😆 I might revisit it as I hate to admit defeat, but probably not. Thanks for suggesting that I do. 🙂
@@ColinOBearI can relate to being a bored teenager, on a rainy day, in the 1970s. Feydeux farces are not for everyone; I speculate they were so popular, in their time, because they mirrored real behavior of the la Bellee Epoque, but exaggerated to the point of comedy. Maybe it requires a certain jaded sophistication to appreciate to enjoy. In a way, it has the manic energy of "The Three Stooges", " Laurel and Hardy," or "The Marx Brothers," 3 acts I have not enjoyed after the age of five.. Times have changed, after all.
Interesting. Have never seen this. The guy in the white suit plainly has a speech impediment. Don't think we would make fun of this now (2024). Unless you're a trump supporter, of course. Too many high-pitched squeaky voices for my taste. Although I usually like British humor, this one is not grabbing me.
He's Denis Waterman, a well known actor and singer. He doesn't have a speech impediment in real life, if that's what you mean. If you mean the character, the play is over 100 years old, from a different era. And it was necessary to the farce that the character could not be understood. I agree no one would write it this way today.
Delicious French farce! Furiously fast-paced and outrageously funny, with a top-notch cast.

Frank Gatliff's "exquisite diction" at 2:01
I totally enjoyed this wonderful play it was the best of British comedy ❤😂❤😂❤🎉😊
What a lovely cast !

Simply lovely.. thank you so much.., best of luck with digging out more treasures 😊

This was wonderful. Hysterically funny and great actors all!
Absolutely delightful to watch and what a cast!
oh how I would love to see this whole series! this is delightful!
A lost craft. I doubt the new generations of actors could take on such a task. Wonderful farce. There is a cuckoo in the letter!

"No, no, no!!! ..... All Ladies have the same handwriting" 😂🤣😂🤣😂
By far the best.
Patricia Routledge love it Mrs Bucket.
That's Bouquet.
OH GOD!!!!! IT'S THE BUCKET WOMAN!!!!! 😜😜😜😜😜 😝😝😝😝😝 😆😆😆😆😆

Love this, if only those magic gum shields really existed.
I remember this series. I think it was originally shown on BBC2...
I recall that Amanda Barrie, and Fenella Fielding were in a couple of episodes .
Faulty Towers circa 1890
Hilarious! Very Oscar Wilde!
I remember this wonderful series and thought it was lost ! Please upload more if you have them. Long live Feydeau !
Over the top but some of the Oscar Wilde-esque dialogs are pretty good, I must admit!
You love your Terrence Alexander… and so do i!
Love it ❤
It’s a play a farce love it meant to be over the top
Very good!!
Brilliant.
have Ooh La La! - Caught in the Act (1973 a laugh track and studio audence
Did Dennis sing the theme tune?
🤣
He even wrote it 😅
Only the vowels.
😂😂😂
This is what is known as “French Farce” I believe.
Yellow peacock with voice of Hyacinth Bucket.. feels odd.
As bizarre as it may seem, I am imagining Billie Burke, in her prime, playing the part of the suspicious wife.
Yes, I was reminded of her, too. Especially at the end -- the inflection was the same.
Best of actors we have but I thought it was terrible
großartig
Patrick c. Sounds just like zippy from rainbow.
Was there no audience?
Who performs the theme tune and what's its name?
Exhausting to watch lol
Made in England.
This was wacky!
Nah... three minutes in and even Patricia cannot save it for me. 🙂
If you stick with it , it gets better.

Overacted. Hammy. Pass
What was up with the lighting in those days? Everything looks jaundiced 😂
