    Look at the intellect of this man. At the peak of his career, he is warning himself and others around him, that with his popularity and power, he can turn in to dictator, if not checked. When you are in so much in touch with your inner demons and understand how can it affect you, you can hardly go wrong. This anonymous piece of letter, which he wrote, is enough proof of Pandit nehru's credibility. There are some in this day and age, who wants to be Pandit nehru by wearinhg his jacket and copy his style by stuffing lotus in ther jackets, but where will they get this vision, intellect and knowledge from? Imagine writing Discovery of India, when there was no internet available?? How many books this man must have read to give us the timeline of different rulers of bygone eras? We were blessed to have chacha nehru as our first prime minister or else, this country would have doomed like pakistan, from the word go.

    • @SamvedIyer
      @SamvedIyer 4 года назад +7

      @Traveller897 Yet it would be evident to some that his extent of socialism was perhaps not most felicitous for India. And your comment that Nehru committed no blunders is immanently pernicious; it is the same disposition that followers of a dictator employ for their supreme leader. I would not contradict that he was indeed a towering figure, but to say he committed no blunders is hyperbolic. Bear in mind his reluctance to fund the military adequately, something no Prime Minister ought to do.

    • @SamvedIyer
      @SamvedIyer 4 года назад +3

      @Traveller897 This reminds me. It is beyond me why one must forget that he was instrumental in having the Intelligence Bureau snoop upon members of Subhas Chandra Bose's family -- respectable men no doubt -- and having the reports sent over to the British.

    • @SamvedIyer
      @SamvedIyer 4 года назад +4

      @Traveller897 Wow! You guys are totally into celebrating the absence of prescience, aren't you? After the pernicious flopshow of the Khilafat movement, anyone should have seen the Partition coming from light years away. Read Dr. Ambedkar's book _Pakistan or the Partition of India._ Their intellect notwithstanding, neither Nehru nor Gandhi nor Patel; literally no one managed to pen a counter to his phenomenal book. Mind you, he wrote his book years _before_ independence. So, while you and I may have benefit of hindsight, he did not. He had only his intellect and prescience with him. He was proven right.
      That they were treacherous should have been evident much prior to independence itself.

    • @SamvedIyer
      @SamvedIyer 4 года назад +6

      @Traveller897 Your idealism is better restricted to theory. In real life, _my enemy's enemy is my friend_ has to be applied more often than not. Hitler was Britain's enemy. Ergo, Bose saw nothing wrong in soliciting Hitler's help in raising an army. This does not indicate that he sympathized with Hitler's abhorrent policies.
      Anything would have been fair game for the nation's independence. Yes, Bose _IS_ a role model, because he stood for secular nationalism and envisioned a strong India. Although, I must admit his vision was too philistine in that he never had concrete ideas with regard to forging Hindu-Muslim unity. As it turns out, neither did the Congress. On this point, I shall concede benefit of hindsight.
      I really do not want to get personal, but while Modi's devotees are idiots, Nehru's devotees are no less. Their paradigm is so quixotic that they never make a distinction between pragmatism and idealism. To them, Nehru was no less than a godsend. How does this make Nehru's devotees any different from Modi's devotees insofar as fanaticism is concerned?
      Anyhow, my point was not with regard to whether Bose is a good role model. It was with regard to Nehru's scandalous snooping on Bose's family _and_ sending over reports over to the British.

    • @SamvedIyer
      @SamvedIyer 4 года назад +3

      @Traveller897 You drastically err in comparing the two. Bose sought help from Hitler in raising an army; he did not help him the way the U.S. helped the mujahids. Seeking help is no sin regardless of how evil the other side is. Also, I am curious why, when you insist so much on Hitler's devilry which no one must refute, you do not insist that the British Raj was as much evil if not more, and Hitler was certainly lesser of the two given that he was not the one persecuting us Indians. The British were. Bose was thus justified in seeking Hitler's help. When national independence is your ultimate goal, you do not worry about global politics; about who considers whom evil. You simply do everything in your power to gain independence, whereafter one may form a cogent foreign policy with regard to the conduct of other nations. This is common sense. Bose understood this.
      Also, it is a matter of national ignominy that a respectable family was not only snooped upon, but intelligence pertaining to it was _shared with the British!_ Do you understand the gravity of it all? One does NOT share intelligence with other countries pertinent even to terrorists unless other countries have a decisive threat from them. Bose's family, far from being a terrorist family, was a respectable family. You simply do not snoop on them for two decades and share intelligence with the same nation that colonized us! Why is this so difficult to understand for Nehru's cult of devotees? By the way, all of this is indeed based on proof. Were you living under a rock in 2015 when this scandal broke out?
      This is not how a sovereign nation conducts itself! Give me one good reason why I must not doubt whether 15 August 1947 was indeed our independence day.

I would say he was not strong enough to beat down domestic opposition (from the predecessors of today's BJP). But aside from that, I would certainly call Nehru a visionary. Funny He felt in 1958 that people did not have time for each other due to technological advances. He would be mortified with today's world. The guy was so well read and comes across very much as a free thinker.

      @@GK-sx2dm Yes, he committed mistakes with regard to Kashmir and China but this is the man because of whom democracy is thriving in our country. If it wouldn't have been for him then like some other British colonies we may have gone towards the path of dictatorship after independence. His government had clear majority for 25 years..it was very easy for him to declare himself as supreme and scrap elections. ISRO, IIT AND IIMs are all his vision. So, yes do criticize the man but do give the credit where it is due.
