    Saucony did exactly what they wanted to do with the Speed 3, tamed it for the masses. And effectively turned into a speedy daily trainer. With enough stability for nearly everyone to be able to get along with. All my higher end has been replaced with Takumi Sen8/Puma Deviate Elite V1, and long runs with the Invincible V2. If I wasn't a HUGE AlphaFly V1/Tempo Next% fan, I would have already picked up a pair of Pro 3's. But I can only have so many shoes before I "hear" about it at home. ;)
    Another informative update review Andy!

    Hi Andy, I loved my speed 2s but with the less than 300 miles the outsole is pretty beat up, and being mid way into a marathon training block and wanting a speedier goal marathon pace shoe for the 16-20 mile long runs have just bought the speed 3s and I love them. They fit very nicely in the rotation with NB more V4s, Saucony pro 3 put aside for the marathon race only! and takumi sen 8s. I have the Brighton 1/2 coming up so will use the speed 3s wanting run in and around goal marathon pace, I have nothing but praise for these shoes and would gladly run any race distance up to marathon in them

    Hey Andy, I have both the Novoblast 3s and Speed 3s, I find the Speed 3 more responsive than the Novoblast 3, they get me more on my toes and turning over more quickly. I bought them to use in a half marathon I am training for, so going on your review seems like a good choice. Not sure whether it is just in my head, but I seem to cruise at 10-20 seconds quicker than the Novoblast.

    Saucony have sacrificed the edge of the Speed 3 (from V1/2) to ensure it is wider for the masses & the Pro 3 is clearly their race shoe... which they've done an absolute job on!
    This does open up the market... Streak fly vs Takumi 8/9 vs Magic Speed vs Hyperion Max... Deviate Nitro... that'd be a great test!

    I think you nailed it with the description. I did choose the speed 3 for a 28k trail race and it was perfect. Grip and stability no problems except on soft sand. I would never have considered the speed 2 for that.
    However Andy you have triggered a desire to pull out the speed 2 for a run.
    I've actually replaced the speed 2 with adidas takumi Sen 8 and Prime X Strung for shorter and longer efforts respectively.

    I have been disappointed with the speed 3 as I wanted it to do the role of the speed 2, You are spot on. I should have known after watching Kieran Alger's last year with is Danube run (where the 3 was easier on him then the 2) .. so for my tempo/faster work I am using a mixture of an old pair of Mizuno rebellions I had in the garage from early last year (hard ride but can pick up speed well) , and my Puma Nitro elites (light and quick) . The speed 3's are still a great do it all shoe if you are on a budget , but wont be replacing them with the same shoe when I hit 200 miles. I feel I can get the same performance from other shoes at a better purchase price. And better shoes to focus on my faster work. I too have been using the shift for my long Z2 runs , was not sure the first 50 miles , but I am currently 170 miles in and they are like and old friend.

      I’d say pace isn’t applicable, I’d say it’s the effort you put in. Thanks for the review. I'm really on the fence on this shoe. At the moment I am doing a lot of daily runs in either a Nike Pegasus or Hoka Clifton, both in the wider version (my foot splays). I was drawn to this shoe, partly because it has a wider toe box, also because they make it in a wider version, but I;'m not quite sure what purpose it serves anymore.
    I use a New Balance Rebel and a Saucony Kinvara for fartleks, and up tempo workouts. I was thinking this shoe might beat both of those for longevity and that it could also double as a race day shoe. I'm just not fast enough for those ridiculous race shoes, and this one is a little bit more affordable. If nothing else I was thinking of it as an entryway into the plated shoe market.
    Could you run a full marathon at a decent pace in this shoe? Or should I consider something like the Brooks Hyperion instead? Is it basically just the same as the NB Rebel or something like the Hoka Mach 5? (Both of which are cheaper) I'm wondering if maybe I should just find a durable, up tempo shoe that can remain comfortable for a full marathon, until maybe I'm ready for a proper race day shoe.

    • @TheFODRunner
      @TheFODRunner Год назад +2

      It’s softer like the rebel… the rebel is probably a bit softer but it’s close to that 👍 and it’ll definitely do a marathon without fail, it’s geared up for longer distances for sure, just goes a bit mushy I find! But overall it’s super comfy! Sounds like your current rotation is perfect… but this would definitely double as a race shoe

    • @hamoudalnasser

      @@TheFODRunner Thanks for the prompt response. Do you think, given my rotation, the ES3 is the best option? Should I consider something like the Asics Magic Speed, or the Brooks Hyperion instead?
      I just get the sense a lot of brands, Saucony especially, are moving away from discerning purpose shoes, tailored to specific needs, and towards trying to serve as big a market as possible. The only specific need to which a lot of brands still cater is the super race shoe, probably because they are expensive and people will but them up. The rest of the shoe lineups just all seem to blend. The new Kinvara looks like the NB Rebel. And the Kinvara Pro seems to have nothing to do with that line. I wonder if it is the new in between option for Saucony plated shoes, what the old Speeds used to be.
