  • Bonefish, Giant Trevally, Triggerfish, Bluefin, Christmas Island or Kiritimati has them all and is now open after being closed for three years!
We were the first group of anglers to fish out of the famous Ikari house since the closure! The bonefish, bluefin, giant trevally, milkfish and triggerfish were plentiful, untouched and hungry. I can't wait to go back in 2024
On day five, we fished for Milkfish, Giant Trevally, and Triggerfish. Throw in a couple bonefish, and you have a Christmas Island Grand Slam. Although a storm was rolling in, we made the best of our time on the water.

    • Creating a loop to loo...
Leader = 10 foot, 100lb straight to the fly high quality Fluorocarbon. If you are concerned about loosing a fly line, use a 16 inch 30lb class section from the fly line to the 100lb leader. Connect these with an Albright knot.
    Knots to use:
from leader to fly line loop tie a perfection loop in the fluoro
from leader tippet to fly use a Steve huff figure 8 loop or a perfection loop.
    Flies:
Giant Trevally - Modified Purple Brush fly. Purple NYAP Popper.
Bluefin Trevally - Small (2.5 inch) Whistler patterns, Small chartreuse and white Clousers

I appreciate your humbleness on the trigger catch. I was just in Belize and cast to dozens of triggers with no interest, but finally I put a cast on one’s head delicately, and he ate, and I got the most satisfying fish of the trip.

Awesome! Yes, those suckers are a test. Even the GTs came easier than the trigger. And if you finally get one to take, you still might lose it. Crazy. A trigger on fly is a BIG accomplishment. I had a replica made of my biggest GT and the trigger. That's how cool I thought it was. We are both in a rare club. Congratulations!

What happened to the big milky? I saw some blood on the deck and suddenly it was cleaned up..

The guides wanted it. Those guys needed all the sustenance they could get after having no income for three years. Milkies are worth a lot to them because the guides don't have refrigeration at home. According to the guides, Milkfish last a long time without refrigeration.

Okay, too bad. Personally I always fish barbless and unhook them in the water, so it hurts a bit to see what happened. But thanks for the honest answer. I cannot effort a boat trip with prices like $500,- a day at least. Great vid anyway, must be a dream trip. I always fish DIY so there must be flats in reach by foot.

Way to get that milkfish jump. BTW, I’m betting Dave does in fact curse when the situation warrants it😅

Well, maybe he did curse, but only because he was "triggered".
