Great review Mark. I was lucky enough to test ride the same model of bike a few months ago and was very impressed, especially with the acceleration and smooth ride. I wouldn’t buy one just yet though due to the cost and limited travel range but it’s definitely the future.

Excellent review Mark as always! I have now ventured into getting my 2nd electric mountain bike the Sur-ron - Chinese translated as Light Bee - and am thoroughly enjoying it's weight - or rather - lack of. It's designed for off road / dirt tracks but could also be a viable short distance commuter in the city. Now that I've gone Ultra light Weight, not sure i would go back to 'proper' motorbikes - but that's just me and my experience. Always looking out for more reviews on two wheeler EV's though!

Electric certainly in our future. Good to see that suspension and braking components are mainstream and that the bike handles and stops as we would expect on a higher spec motorbike.

  • @kyotosal

It definitely is the future Mark. The range must be increased for traveling with plenty of charging stations. Let's hope they don't catch fire like the Chevy Volt car. Perfect for the city though......Sal : )

Zero is going to have to offer their bikes with a DC fast charging option if they want to make them useful for touring. Level 2 charging just doesn’t cut it. Any chance you can get your hands on one of the bikes from Energica?

Not a bad bike but I am still not convinced to swap my Kawasaki Z900 for this one. Too expensive, the range is not fantastic either. Surely not good enough when you want to go touring with it, commuting at best. Nice one Mark.

Thanks mark, another informative video. It was interesting to note that the battery pack had a fiive year warrenty, this seems to suggest that this part of the bike is probably the most expensive bit.It begs the question,if you fancy a change three or four years down the line will anyone want it,or are you going to be stuck with a very expensive ornament?I don't want to sound too negative here but things would have to improve greatly price wise before l was tempted.Look forward to your next video.

    • @markpulling12
      @markpulling12  3 года назад +1

Hi Robert thanks for the comment...I have been told that the batteries can do 200,000 miles so it will generally outlive the motorcycle by a long way ...but yes the life of battery does make you think ...a friend has a zero which is four years old with no reduction in battery performance :)
      Cheers mark

Mark, these are amazing bikes but range is key and the reliable network to charge them. Johnson and Co will need to fathom how the network will be powered with years of dithering over nuclear and gas prices massively increasing.

If you had been riding an ICE bike with an Akrapovic exhaust the van driver parked at the side of the road at 12:34 would likely have not opened his driver's door on you as you were passing. This is a major negative for electric bikes. They are pretty much silent. I would be really anxious riding one in a typically busy urban environment when the roads are busy. They would need to have a good horn and the headlight be very good as well as the good brakes to avoid anything or anyone. When they definitely give 150 miles per charge even with spirited riding and a max 15 minute charge from an empty battery to full then I think they will be serious contenders. And the prices come down. Thanks for the review.

Being brutally honest, 80 miles of range on the motorway along with an 80 minute charge time is a total deal breaker for me, which is a shame because I really do think electric bikes are the future. The tech needs to mature somewhat before manufacturers can claim that electric motorcycles are a direct replacement for their ICE cousins, except perhaps in a city environment where you won't need all this performance, so for me this bike is a bit of a white elephant, and a very expensive one at that...

What I would like to know as somebody that wants to get a motorcycle....
From what I've heard talking to other people is that your first bike shouldn't be absurdly powerful.
    Which makes complete sense.
You don't want a ridiculous amount of power in the hands of a novice.
Like giving the McLaren to someone that just got their driver's license. Lol
My question is, is that same line of thinking applicable to electric bikes like these because there is no gearing in because they're so smooth? Not that I would necessarily want a crazy amount of power just to have it but because these bikes are more expensive.... that's kind of what I'm getting at.

  • @michaelcox436

I was literally on the point of buying one when I found out about the scam they run where they make you pay money to "unlock" things already built into your bike, like a video game or something. No way.
