I hope you all enjoyed this out-of-nowhere video. I had it cooking on the back-burner for a while, a little over a year now, so I thought it'd be fun to work on it. There are some things I could've done better on, and I will agree with that, so if I ever come back to this topic, I can and will do better for those parts. With that all said, thanks for being so patient on it, I spent so much time on it, and I'm really happy with the results.

Speaking as someone who does keep track of the VHS community, it's a very similar story with the VHS opening and closing community. It's bizarre as to how obsessed some people are with doing those.
That's why I've kinda distanced myself from that community and went off and did my own thing with the openings, mainly doing them at 60fps. It's very apparent especially with Disney, Nick Jr. and PBS tapes that there's a lot of autistic people that watch those tape openings.

As somebody who is interested in making documentaries about logo evolutions, I can tell you that logo histories are quite fascinating. The reasons for why certain logos are animated the way they are, as well as the visuals, what the logo represents, the rationale behind the logo presentation, and the music score, are incredibly fascinating details in the wider landscape of graphic arts.
The scary logo stuff I bought into a decade ago, but over time I figured it was somewhat hogwash. The only reason why I initially jumped on that train was due to the 1993 PBS Kids logo, which was loud, had crude animation, and left as quickly as it arrived on the television screen. However, its jarring nature was enhanced as I sometimes caught it in the dark.
If it weren’t for that logo, though, I would not have embarked on this logo journey nor discover other aspects about movie and television logos that I believe a lot of people gloss over and take for granted. They are inextricably linked to the media we consume, so they should be given their due credence. Thanks for this video. It was an interesting glimpse into the strange logo community on RUclips.

I don't get why people are calling the community "cringy" or whatever. It's just a niche interest that I find myself partaking in here and there. The reason why I do it is bc there were some logos that scared me when I was a little kid and wanted to see if there were other people who felt that way, as well learn more about the history of said logos (and also bc some logos are really cool looking).
I can understand why people may be confused or put off by the logo community, but y'all have to understand that you're not the target audience of their content. Just extend a little bit of empathy, that's all.

I had a very interesting history with Splaat. I was so scared of him that I refused to download the Krusty Krab Training Video episode because I heard that Nick accidentally aired the Splaat logo instead of the United Plankton Pictures logo during the credits. After watching RoboSplaat and seeing more about Splaat’s personality and backstory, I’m no longer scared of him. It’s quite nice to see that Klasky Csupo is treating Splaat more than a logo, but a character.
Drifting away from Klasky Soup (a little nickname I gave to Klasky Csupo), as a channel that has a Pixar logo edit with 4K views compared to other videos in my channel, I agree that people are SOOOOOO crazy over logos.

As a bystander of the logo/CLG community myself, even I can say that it can be rather annoying. (Lord knows how many T.A.T Communications mock-ups are out there) I think it's just fascinating, and logo design is something I crave.
Some logos are legit creepy, or downright nightmare material, (such as the Oz Film Company logo, look up at your own risk.) while others are simply just eerie to watch, due to video artifacting, music, or the time of day. (such as the Screen Gems S or the Viacom V of Doom. I personally don't find those two scary)
In the end, it's not really worthwhile, but it's just fascinating.

The Screen Gems logo actually comforts me. However, there is one logo that still terrifies me to this day and even gives me nightmares from time to time. Though it really isn't a production logo, it's known as a "Flashbang logo". Flashbang logos were those "Comming Soon" or "Feature Presentaion" logos that appeared during the previews on some old Disney and mainly Dimension VHS tapes between 1998 and 2003. It starts out with a simple black screen, then a loud "woosh" as the text flies on to the screen, followed by a bright flash and loud noise (don't know the instrument, but it's a G minor note) with the background fading to blue and a creepy ominous voice saying you "Coming soon to home video" or "And now our feature presentation". I think witnissing that alone as a small child scarred me for life, so yeah.

As someone who used to make these sort of logo edits, I found this video incredibly interesting. I think one thing you touched upon was spot on, that it lets people be creative. I understand how calling a simple logo with Windows Movie Maker effects slapped on it “creative” seems weird, it’s a great starting point for people who want to edit things, make something creative, and just do whatever. Logos are recognizable, so tinkering around with them, putting a bit of yourself in it is great practice, and can subconsciously teach you what makes a great logo. I still occasionally gets comments on my old 20th Century Jake logo videos, which while I don’t fully understand why at times, I just feel happy knowing that they’ll move on to more creative endeavors. Just compare my current logo with my old 20th Century logos, and you can see how I got tired of the formula and experimented until I eventually made something I’m actually proud of. I went from downloading a blender file and changing one word, to getting my own footage, color grading it, compositing different elements and making something a little more distinct. From getting the footage to render time, my current logo took 2 and a half hours to make. I’m happy how much I’ve moved on.

When I was little I always used to watch Dragon Tales and other Columbia Tristar videos for the logo at the end. I would even get them from the library and desperately try to hide the fact from my mom that I just wanted it to watch the logos. I remember whenever I got dropped off at my grandmas house after summer school (because my mom was still at work), I would turn on channel 11 (PBS Kids, WMHT) and see the last parts of Clifford The Big Red Dog at 12 PM and then I would sit there and watch Dragon Tales from 12:30 to 1:00. At the end I would get very close to the TV and see the Columbia Tristar Television logo pop up on the screen. I also recall seeing Columbia Tristar Television Distribution at the end of it, which explains why I would always watch closely for that logo. Even when PBS Kids introduced the part where the credits zoomed to the top right side of the corner into the big TV they had in that room (where the host would always go on and talk about crap), I would put my face towards the top right corner and watch as the credits go by. Although when they added those zoomed out credits I would always hope for a glitch in the system for it to not do it and just do the credits the way it used to be.

The Scary Logos Wiki is no longer that bad, but that doesn’t mean the comments are. Such logos also use BFDI elements. While I’m not a fan of BFDI myself, I do think about and cringe upon lookin at a character, since it reminds me of the logo community. That’s a bummer, because the series itself isn’t bad. There is truly no point in the logo videos, art, or the fan base itself. It’s a utterly cringey waste of time.

This one's a really dang good video in my book. You covered it very well. ;)

Interesting video. For me, the reason why I’am a logo fan is because I like learning about the history of different logos, and the many variations they may have had over the years, especially the rare nearly extinct ones. Some of it I will agree is tied to nostalgia as well, seeing a logo from an old show I watched as a kid, and haven’t seen in years can be like stepping into a time machine sometimes, even the ones that used to scare me. Yes... I was one of those kids that used to be afraid of certain logos, not anymore though, I grew out of that as I got older. In fact, trying to remember what logos used to scare me and looking them up online is what initially got me into researching logos. I’m not as obsessed with them as I used to be, but I’ll still look them up from time to time, mostly the rare hard to find ones like I mentioned earlier. Never understood the appeal of those effect videos however. Some of them were interesting, but most of them I never cared for.

Same question but Windows. Seriously. Just cause we like computers doesn't mean we have to make "nEvEr ReLeAsEd" rubbish. My part of the fandom is civilised.

I'm autistic and might have been one of the first RUclips dependent "logo kids" back in the late 2000's/early 2010's. To this very day the V of Doom, S from Hell, DiC Kid in Bed, BND mask, Walt Disney Classics, Klasky Csupo, PBS, and all those other logos (especially VHS logos) remind me of the peak of my logophilia, in my 1st-4th grade years. Strangely enough I've never found any logo scary.
And let's not forget, the Looney Tunes Intro Bloopers which involved the WB shield, and the V of Doom and S from Hell and BND mask etc
Even though I am currently reliving interests from my early teens, it seems that I will always have a place in my heart for logos.

    Ask Me Questions!
I'm planning to make a video about this, and I'm in the logo community. I did help Daniel get some older videos for this video, and I'm planning to make a follow up addressing other things that about the logo community that I personally want to address. As a past logo editor myself, I know some trends and such. I'm still uploading logo stuff, with the exception being that it is just the logo (for archival purposes).

The MtM logo really startled me, but it was also pretty clever at the same time. I'm also still somewhat spooked by the Klasky Csupo logo as it sometimes appears in my nightmares.

when i first found out that the viacom V and screen gems eye logos from the 60s-70s, i dont get how "scary" they are to people. for me, i consider them abstract/retro art. now i get why people fear the klasky csupo logo, the MTM death logo, and some of the indian film logos from the 30s-90s, especially dwarakish chitra.

I have a general obsession with certain logos but not on TV, which isn't a bad thing on itself. I think it has something to do with symbolism, and what the meaning behind the logo is. I don't think it's special either, it's just that symbolism is like one of the main things that helps makes a meaning iconic and sometimes it can be fascinating depending on the meaning to me.
For example the Super Mario 64 logo is like a legendary logo to me because of how great the game is and how it likely helped create a lot of average 3D games. I'm not into the logo just because it's an interesting logo itself, I'm interested into it because it's a symbol of something very great. XD

I feel like it would be a disservice not to mention autism and the logo community. As an autistic person myself who used to be a part of this community, and saw others who fit my same mold, it think it would be likely that a large portion of the logo community would be autistic because of niche, specific interests that would be unheard of to neurotypicals.

Oh. My. God. I used to be so obsessed with these as a kid. I always liked that feeling of uncannyness while watching “scary” logos. It was so fun just reading the forums on the CLG wiki about these things. Even looking at those “scary logo effect” videos.

I remember finding the classic wacky Nickelodeon Movies logos from the late 90s to the early 2000s charming to see as a kid while watching Rugrats the Movie + the sequel, Hey Arnold the Movie, The Wild Thornberrys Movie, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius etc.
However the dog, the house that got destroyed by the logo, the atmospheric music before the moon (aka the logo) sneezed, actually felt kinda freaky (at least the house didn't freak me out a friccin' lot as much as the trailer for Cat in the Hat movie, when they showed the upper level start falling down to wacky music, and then ending with the cat walking away from the camera like nothing happened and then the logo showed up. Everything was in English too so I still had no idea what was going on. I couldn't even start watching Sinbad without feeling that our part of the house will fall down.).
But hey, at least it was close enough to hear the Nickelodeon theme. Idk why, but when I used to watch Nickelodeon a lot as a kid (we didn't have Cartoon Network until around after 2010), and I never knew that Nickelodeon had a main theme since I don't think they played it here in Sweden. It wasnt until I watched the Nostalgia Critic's Nickelodeon Month video like... three, four years ago or something that I heard the theme. And I also never realised that the different styles of the Nickelodeon Movies theme was the same as the Nickelodeon theme, just more different to fit the intros.

I have asperger's and I think tv logos are cool, just not cool enough to get absolutely obsessed with, but I can see why,and they are oddly fascinating. I'm just not obsessed, I do like the history though. Sometimes I go down that rabbit hole sometimes, you do you. Whether it's furries, logos,or world war two, do what you love.

As an autistic, I think it's an autism thing. I was never obsessed with logos myself, but I did like playing a game called Logo Quiz when I was younger where I had to guess the logo.
