Is the recording poor quality because of the age of it, or are they horribly out of tune and way overplaying?

Probably the first(it's obvious that they recorded this in the 70s), but I don't get the out of the tune and overplaying part. It sounds rather close to a version you might hear today.

They're not horribly out of tune, the microphones are just concentrated on the drums rather than the other instruments.
