    I liked Roland with its bold and fat sound, then followed by Casio with a clean and pure sound, then followed by Yamaha with and acoustic like and raw sound. If I play Gospel I prefer Roland, if I play Jazz I prefer Yamaha, if I play Pop I prefer Casio, all based on the above samples.

  • @avjake
    @avjake 6 лет назад +78

    FYI, I'm listening to this on Focal studio monitors. The Yamaha sounds most"electric" in the midrange but the most realistic in the lower registers. The Casio was recorded quite a bit lower than the others, which gives it a psychological disadvantage right off the bat, but I think it sounds the most realistic overall. The Roland seems to have a more artificial attack but resonates nicely. I believe that Yamaha has decades more experience making speakers than the others, so that may make a big difference when listening in an acoustic space. They all sound pretty gorgeous compared to what we had 10 years ago. So, given that they all sound pretty great, I would recommend going with whatever keys feel most natural or closest to whatever you will be performing on.

    • @demofactory
      @demofactory 5 лет назад +3

      I agree. It sounds like the Yamaha and the Roland artificially enhance the bass and treble for a scooped eq sound. The Casio sounded quieter(lower volume), but more balanced across the entire keyboard. If you compress the Yamaha or the Roland, when recording, they'll end up sounding more like the Casio.
      Thanks for doing a great comparison. Take care friend.

    I recognized the 3 of them by its quality.
    Roland is the best with its typical "fat" natural sound.
    Yamaha is also natural but a little strident, that makes ears get tired in long performances.
    Casio is not too much natural as the other two, but it has a smooth envelope comparing with Yamaha.
    The worst thing with casio is that in long notes you can hear the loop of the sample (specially in lowest frec notes)

      I've been a Pianist for over 50 years and while digital pianos are more convenient, cheaper and can recreate an acoustic piano sound fairly well, an acoustic piano has certain nuances in their sound that digital pianos cannot recreate, and they're all unique to each individual piano, even the best digital pianos will not rival even a 40 inch acoustic console as far as sound quality and Aesthetics go, HOWEVER..... there are only two amplifiers that I know of that can make a digital piano sound just as good and real as an acoustic piano, and that's a Roland Jazz chorus and a Peavey kb5

    Great video. I love this. Best way to compare. Most others just show the pianos and people are bias for brands. #1 just sounded extremely "digital" to me. I know they're all digital but something about its tone sounded very fake compared to the others. I wasn't surprised to see it was Roland's modeling technology that did that. I wish there was a Kawai CN 37 in here (retails around the same as the CLP 635 where I live). Fantastic video.

    The test Pianist played more extreme low bass keys on 2 - missing from demo on 1 and 3. For best comparison, playing should be kept identical on all three. It was not identical, on this demo. There are note variations on all 3 demonstrations. We did hear the middle on all 3, and number 1 had more power/depth (or did pianist play number 1 more fortissimo, and the others less?). 2 had the strongest bass, but this is because more notes were played on 2. Wish I had heard the same played on the other two. All 3 are good. My taste was for 1, later revealed as Roland.

There is other parameter were you adjust how vary decay in different keys (upper keys has shorter decay time), all according to your preferences. The default fabric parameters is not the optimal.

      If you like the sound of Yamaha, you also like the sound of birds shitting on the roof. Yamaha are often described as the most accurate sound. Whatever that means...

      Well, you are full of shit too, because this comparison is utter useless waste of time. Kinda useless comparison, simply because quality of source recordings varies and is not representative how those pianos sound live when you are standing next to it in-person and listening. Also, to make things even more complex and useless - youtube compresses data even more. What you have in the end is a frankenstein audio that has next to nothing to what those pianos sound like live. Finally, even studio speakers that we listen this youtube video on - are different and each one is distorting original sound a bit. Needless to say - when you take all above-mentioned things into consideration - it all renders useless

    Damn, I nailed it! Roland makes great synths, but I've never been fond of their piano sounds. Yamaha's always have a lovely warmth and body to them, while Casio does an amazing job with that bright, crisp Steinway-esque sound. I find Yamaha and Casio also have some really nice harmonic distortion peeking through giving their tones a lot of character that varies with how their played.

    These sounds were recorded from the line output. This test shows what the sound will be in the headphones or on the line-out recording. But a piano like this is 99.99% used to play through their own speakers. Digital piano speakers are very important. Two different models of the same brand with the same sound module and the same samples but different speakers have a completely different sound. The sound from the line out is not a piano sound.

    • @Gruuvin1
      @Gruuvin1 3 года назад +1

      It's a fair method for comparison. A lot of people connect more gear to the line out for better sound. I would skip over every video that had to mic up these pianos acoustically. That would be a terrible sounding video. This is the right way to do it.

    That was kind of fun. I wish someone would do the Kawai K300 versus Yamaha B3 this way. I picked the Casio, but that might be because that was the closest tone to my WK-6500 and I just gravitated to the familiar.

  • @grandpiano6574

    The Casio had the most pronounced sound, Casio sounds like acoustic pianos with the lid open, Yamaha and Roland sound like acoustic pianos with the lid closed, yamaha's have the best action though

  • @pimpovic2

    I chose number one based on sound, which turned out to be the Roland.
    I only have experience with Roland because we just bought an HP 601 for my girls. I didn't look at the other two brands much, because the Bluetooth interface closed the deal for me. As a learning tool, it's amazing that we can use an App to help my kids learn more than they otherwise might without it.
    That said, Roland provides the ability to tailor the sound to your liking, making the sound brighter or darker, more mellow or otherwise. If the other 2 have this same feature, all you're really doing then is comparing one setting vs another sound setting, since the sounds can be tweaked so much. I'm not sure this is an end all to the disputes brand loyalists have with one another, but it is nice to help us distinguish between slight differences in sound. Let's be honest, nor everyone has a trained ear. Thanks for the video. I'm glad I ended up choosing the one that MY ear actually agreed with most!

    You can adjust sustain decay rate in all digital piano, all brands, YAMAHA, CASIO, KAWAI, ROLAND, KORG. You select it according your preference. There is other parameter were you adjust how vary decay in different keys, brilliance level when play harder, etc. (upper keys has shorter decay time), all according to your preferences. The default fabric parameters is not the optimal. Yamaha is the greatest musical instrument company in the world both electronic and traditional acoustic, but also the others electronic competitors, rivals produces perfect sampled natural sound instruments nowadays.

  • @SR1Records
    @SR1Records 6 лет назад +4

    The problem with this is that it's all about which piano you prefer. I don't know what piano Roland sampled, Yamaha sample one of their own concert grands and Casio sampled a Steinway. I prefer Steinways so I prefer the sound of the Casio.

    • @Phantawalker
      @Phantawalker  6 лет назад +2

      SR1Records not exactly, because the sampling technology is very different. You can sample Steinway 4 layers per note or CFX 16 layers per note, the difference in the sound will very big. Good example is bosendorfer. Clavinova and AP both sampled bosendorfer but the difference in the sound is enormous. Roland use modelling technology, it's not sampling. But I agree, thats a matter of taste, thanks for your comment :)

    • @SR1Records
      @SR1Records 6 лет назад +1

      I agree that the complexity behind the instrument (how well it's sampled, how many layers per note, etc) makes a huge difference. It's probably just me, but i really don't like the sound of Yamaha pianos. They're too bright for my taste. So in my case i'd rather have a playable Steinway than an amazingly sampled Yamaha. Again, probably just me who thinks that, lol.

    wow@Casio! I'm only choosing between Roland hp504 and yamaha clp 625 in Egypt so this video convinces me of Roland since it's the second best and Yamaha was least. Especially that the customer service in Egypt goes to Roland. they let us try all pianos, all options. Yamaha's service hides some pianos and doesn't let you experience the ones in the show room by being right on your head! The salesman was trying just scales for us and when we were trying he was thinking it's enough to try it with the power off :) so I think I'll go for Roland
