I think back tracking is not a problem its a given in a truly open world game with good exploration you should have to walk and manually travel otherwise the point of the open world is defeated
I feel like too many people give the story a pass because "hurr durr you haven't reached end-game in the unmoored world". That excuse always felt like cope since we were promised, via the marketing, that there would be fantasy politics & more narrative involvement. Compared to Elden Ring or BG3, the last two GOTY winners, if you didn't find motivation to farm pawn quests endlessly to get better gear upgrades to farm materials and pawn quests endlessly, you're in for a rough time. I feel like there's no excuse for dropping so much of the setup early on because "unmoored world" reason (without giving too much away). Still better than Starfield or whatever Bethesda open-world game will come out with in the future so... there's that.
Yes, it is flawed. But it's also important to remember that this game had a target audience that it pretty much perfectly hit. Not everyone has to like your game and it is crucial that games go back to knowing their target audience instead of trying to please broader and broader audiences to become "loved" games again. As publisher and developer, be honest in your marketing, joke about your own shortcomings and listen to your community, at least for QoL features. All in all a great video and I gotta admit... I have no f*ckn clue what the Thief Maister's name is. Then again, I struggle with names irl aswell, so... :P
Oh, also: The nemesis system is copyrighted by WB, which is the reason that we barely see similar systems implemented in other games. Which is a shame really because they basically don't use it themselves.
My biggest issue is that the game genuinely doesnt know how to makes it mind when enemies are too close/far. Ive had so many times where i had to close the game a lose progress because the game wouldnt simply let me put down a port crystal for later or fucking SAVE.
not gonna lie a mount would've been the perfect resolution to exploring and what fast travel is still lacking.
I agree, you could still keep the exploration without making repeating long distances a chore
