Installed the same covers Richard installed in this customer's basement in our house back in 2015 - easy peasy - still looks great today !!

The metal ones were definitely dated looking, but the plastic just feels cheap. Do they have anything more modern looking but made out of metal?

There are plastics that are as strong if not stronger than steel.
However, with radiant heating, metal should be the preference as it is part of the radiance of the heating system.
While holes in the plastic cover does allow for the circulation of air and heat escaping, a metal cover would absorb some of that heat and provide for a larger source of radiant heat making the system more efficient.

Replace with Runtal. Not cheap as the plastic but way nicer and modern.

The basement covers prevent you from controlling the vent, and, as RT mentioned, they limit the airflow in through the bottom. Paint would have been a much better solution.

I have used the second style in one of my bathrooms. They look nice and are pretty sturdy, but they ain’t cheap. $25 per foot from a company called Cover Luxe.

These are plastic covers, how well will they hold up??
    Especially with the heat source.

I wouldn't put that in a rental let alone my house. Painting would have been a better choice and better heat output too. It looks soooo cheap 🤨

Not sure what value your comment is making. This is just one option. If you want to paint good for you. Others may want to use this option. It doesn’t have to be negative all the time.

6:03 Get them all marked? But they are already marked.
This looks so cheap. I would have gotten so sand paper, metal primer and spray paint.

Not a fan of plastic around heat... Heat-resistant or not.

Exact same thing happened to me last year. Took the whole heating cover off the unit.. Had no idea how to put it back. Hired a plumber to come in and put it back and they were like, "why would someone take this off like this??" Umm no idea man, it was the painter. Yes I blamed the painter.

A miss opportunity TOH. Are the electric baseboards the same installation? I assume yes, but you know what happens when DIY's assume things.

Good but do it again with metal pieces please. Plastic is not good enough for us. In older homes, repair people tend to take off covers and they get lost.

Mismatched cheap plastic baseboards that trap heat…this is not up to Richard’s skill level.
