This was to explain why it (and the audience) wasn't terribly concerned with the sword fight at the end of Phantom Menace. It was all flipping and no emotions. When I think of that, I think about this scene and Rashomon. The fact that Jaime thinks that he's going to have an easy victory and slowly realizing that not only is Brienne better than him but also playing with him is a perfect character moment for both of them.
You gotta remember. A lot of things on the north side of the wall and east of Westeros are thought to be fake or just tales from stories. Cuz it's been so long since people in Westeros have seen those things. Wargs, the white walkers, giants, dragons, the red woman etc. that's why really old people like Maester Aemond or people born outside of Westeros like Ygritte know a lot more about the things going on outside of the war.

Michelle Fairley does such a great job as Catelyn. You have all these women in the show using their femininity in different ways. There's Cersei using hers cynically to manipulate people and get what she wants, Margery doing pretty much the same thing but in a significantly less evil way, Sansa wearing hers as a cloak to hide her intelligence and awareness, Brienne rejecting hers as a result of how she was treated, and Arya rejecting hers in an attempt to empower herself. And then there's Catelyn, doing her duty. By every measure she's the ideal woman in this culture, just like Ned was the ideal man, and she just suffers over and over again. Shit's grim.

And me personally, i think she’s probably the most badass just based on Jaime’s first chapter, when she literally took out an entire boat full of people who were trying to shoot them off their boat by diving into the water, climbing up a cliff and rolling a BOULDER on them, took three arrows in the back in the process, and walked it right off. 😮💨

I think this Jamie Brianne fight is just wholly inconclusive personally. In addition to all the other stuff, she's not just "holding back" she's not even remotely trying to show off, or use good moves, or fight him in any specific way that may be to her advantage, or do anything other than what she does which is literally JUST being duly cautious 'cuz she's never fought him, and holding herself to making sure she doesn't miss the chance or make a mistake. It's not like she's only at 90% of her power or something, we have no idea what the number is 'cuz she wasn't doing any number she was just zoning in an making sure she didn't lose him. And she didn't. But who knows how malnourished and emaciated Jamie is, we don't exactly know what they fed him. All we know is a sub optimal Jamie tried and failed up to the point at which they were interrupted, and a cautious and focus Brianne was cautious and focused and managed to do the only thing she wanted to do which was not lose him. Doesn't really translate to us being avle to do any proper power scaling. I think it is meant to JUST tease us, like maybe maliciously maybe not, but I don't think we can make certain claims from this. Other than that Brienne didn't fail, up to the point at which they were interrupted

Jaime was at best 20% due to lack of training, but more so from sitting on his bones and eating bare minimum for several months at least. He hands were also bound. In the book Jaime admitted Brienne was stronger than him. Brienne also mused afterwards if the Lion was in top form she was not certain she could have beaten him. As far as Arya in her scene with Thoros she was fighting one of the best swordsman in Westeros using a sword far too large for her. If she had Needle would have have still lost at this point, but would not have been so humiliated. .
Couldnt be any further from a clean win, Jaime was in the worst condition of his life and still tied up at the hands, hence why he was so physically weak and drained.

For the record, Jaime is considered legendary level. A talent that doesn't come in generations. The only swordsman in history to compare to his level is Arthur Dayne, who's considered the best ever. 100% vs 100% no one alive can beat Jaime.

Doesn't really translate to us being avle to do any proper power scaling. Jaime was at best 20% due to lack of training, but more so from sitting on his bones and eating bare minimum for several months at least. He hands were also bound. In the book Jaime admitted Brienne was stronger than him. Brienne also mused afterwards if the Lion was in top form she was not certain she could have beaten him. As far as Arya in her scene with Thoros she was fighting one of the best swordsman in Westeros using a sword far too large for her. If she had Needle would have have still lost at this point, but would not have been so humiliated. .

For the record, Jaime is considered legendary level. A talent that doesn't come in generations. The only swordsman in history to compare to his level is Arthur Dayne, who's considered the best ever. 100% vs 100% no one alive can beat Jaime.

Well there's no real proof that he would be better than Prime Barristan anywhere actually, but he's certainly the best of his generation and Brienne wouldn't have a chance if it was a fair fight.
