- Thanks to El Niño, our dry suits and a group of more experienced paddlers, we have been able to continue paddling all the way through this winter. On February 4th 2024 we took a fun day trip down the Nith River just outside of Paris Ontario. We hope you enjoy!

Pretty exciting Steph and Pat!
That’s a really fun river! I’m sure we will paddle it with you one day!
That looked amazing! What a great paddle for Southern Ontario
It is, isn’t it! That’s the third time we’ve paddled it. You need enough water but if you time it right, it’s a blast!
Going in a few weeks with the Wilderness Canoe Association. Hoping for enough water. Was scouting it out the other day at around 11 m3/s and that section around @4:40 in your video is the one that is keeping me up at night. Good to see with higher flow it seems a bit more manageable. At the lower flow it looks like I'm going to hit the rocks instead of going over, will see in a few weeks how it goes.
Ya I think you need a fair amount of water to paddle that section. We had 27m3/s in this video. We had also paddled it somewhere around high teens-20’s a few years back and it was doable. It’s a very fun river! I hope you can enjoy 😊
Looks like you had plenty of water, the surfing waves were all washed out.
There were some in other areas that people had lots of fun with! I think it was running around 27m3/s. We aren’t up to surfing yet haha.
Still some ice here but soon... Curios: what do you carry in your fanny pack? Ditch kit?
Yep! It’s a ditch kit. Fire starting kit, water treatment tabs, leatherman, water bladder, car keys, snacks, “poop kit” (trowel/TP/hand sanitizer), sunscreen/bug spray (when appropriate), hand/foot warmers, flagging tape, mini first aide kit. Lots of goodies!
