  • The ingenious CDG Solo System designed by "Stuka Joe" and published by GMT Games. Here I am using an in progress game of Command & Colors Ancients to explain how the Ancients iteration is used. The professionally published edition should find its way in to players hands soon (as of this video, early May 2022). This is my quick look at the print & play version I assembled. The professionally published version should look very similar. Bottom line, big thumbs up.

    Using the PnP version of this with Washington's War and it works extremely well! Playing Wilderness War with it right now and so far so good. Will also give it a try with Paths of Glory in the very near future. IMHO it's worth it. Thanks to Stuka Joe for his efforts.

      @@andreford3197 I guess I don't understand....afaik the individual game specific rulesheets are needed to play the game w/ the CDG Solo System & the game specific rulesheet for Wilderness War is not yet available (it's part of Pack #2, pnp files yet to be released)......soooooo.....are you just 'winging' it or what?

      @@andrewwalsh531 No, using the section for Washington's War. The gameplay sequence is pretty similiar. In the Overview paragraph of the CDG solo system, the last two sentences read...."The following rules summary provides an introduction to the system, general guidelines for play, and game-specific Playsheets covering a handful of GMT's most popular titles. If desired, the rules and principles in this rulebook can be applied to nearly any CDG." That gave me an idea so I tried using Washington's War and it has worked really well.

    I'm assuming this'll play out with any C&C version as it appears to be a long-winded version of Borg's 'Power of Three'. I like it and I'm always looking for solo versions of any game, but I'll probably stick with POT for the Napoleonics.

    • @blastpop
      @blastpop  Год назад +1

      I don't have Napoleonic C&C, I see no reason why it wouldn't, with minor mods for the deck in that game. FYI, they are including it in the second release, CDG Solo System Pack #2.

      It's not a big package - it does add, in my opinion, so much value to the games a player owns. It breathes life into C&C Ancients for me. I'm presently stickering the blocks in my last expansion. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives.

    Thanks for the review. Does this system make it so C&C would be a good choice for solo only? I’ve been wanting to play C&C but would rarely have an opponent.

    • @blastpop
      @blastpop  2 года назад

      It makes solo a lot of fun. You have limited choices created by the system. It creates a tension that solo play normally doesn't provide. A big plus - turns can move swiftly as you have choice, but not so many to create too may things to ponder. You can download to see if it meets your needs and then upgrade to the "professionally" printed edition, if it does. I've played C& C Ancients more times since I printed this out solo than I ever played it solo and face to face combined prior to this. So yes to answer your question it is worth it for solo alone.

    What is the advantage of this system over a simpler one, like Borg's "the power of three" as an example?

    • @blastpop
      @blastpop  2 года назад

      I can't speak to "the power of three". The advantages I see are it's a simple system, applicable to to the C&C series and card driven games, which is what this was originally designed for.

    Great vid, thanks. I have C&C Ancients and wish to play it solo. Are there any advantages to buying the GMT Solo SDG system materials over just downloading the print and play solo rules from GMT's website then? Reason I ask is b/c where I live it is quite expensive to order the Solo system.

    • @blastpop
      @blastpop  2 года назад +1

      If you don't mind taking the time to print out and assemble the free kit, go for it. The advantages of buying it are limited to it being professionally printed and a quality game die. I printed and played it to try and then decided to acquire the full product as I deemed it worth buying. Your mileage may vary. Either way, enjoy!

      I will say the game play implementation is so easy that in a few turns its already second nature to use. It manages to add suspense to solo play which, for me, means it will get to my table more often. Thanks for watching!

      @@blastpop Yeah, my concern is more on the side of the rolling etc slowing decision making - I prefer to get into the thick of action without this extra step. I do appreciate the effort though, might give it a try again at some point in the future
