Growing up in Philly, I heard WABC a lot. Dan and cousin Brucie were two of my favorites, along with Philly legends, Dr Don Rose, Jerry Blavat, WFIL, WMMR. The days when radio was entertaining and fun.
@garytorresani8836: I too was also born and raised here in Philly; Folcroft to be precise. I was a 7-year-old second grader back in March of '65. I too used to listen to WABC down here in Philly, along with WFIL as well. That's when radio was worth listening to, but not today.
Im so glad that Cousin Brucie is back on WABC, bringing most of this magic back, even if its just on the weekends, they even got back the old jingles! Too bad Dan isn't still around, I know the new owner John "Cats" would have got him a slot for a show right away. RIP Dan, and happy "Rebirth" of WABC MusicRadio!
@@jeanmank6342 Thank goodness we remember when radio was cool and fun. For me NYC was and is the media Capitol of America. But when the blonde, whitened teeth, blow dried hair people from Los Angeles settled in NYC, the culture of the city went down.
@@TheBrooklynbodine Still is! And with Brucie back on WABC, these old jingles and songs come blasting back out into the atmosphere again, every Saturday night, starting at 6pm (Brucie goes til' 10, then Tony)! Tony Orlando also has a show and so does Joe Piscopo, WABC has a great new weekend music crew again! Wish Dan was still around to join them.
They are back with music, Cousin Brucie is back on at 6pm Saturdays, then Tony Orlando has a program after him at 10pm, both with music and old WABC jingles!
I'm sure...absolutely sure, I tuned into WABC many times with my few transistor radios ( GE, Zenith, Panasonic, and the popular models of the 1960's) in the 1960's in the evenings from my home in Indianapolis. Great fun listening...especially with the ear-phone plugged in while in bed trying to sleep. The stronger AM stations from good distances just made me dream of being a DJ like these guys of America's best radio stations. I still, though, had my #1 radio station as WLS - 890 in Chicago. Oh...and my "favorite radio commercial on WABC 77? That one who was selling furs with: "Remember...Money talks, nobody walks!" Boy, at times I use that slogan when it comes to money!
Dan Ingram:: "That's no horse, get off of Herb Oscar Anderson!" I'm sure HOA had a big laugh. Grateful for what brief time I had with both of these superb broadcasters.
When music radio was Music Radio! From the media Capitol of the world my old hometown with the best DJs in America, NYC during the Mad Men era of the 1960s.
If you listen very closely to the first Air Check (at approximately time stamp 0.03), it's mentioned "WABC AM & FM in New York." I guess what eventually became WPLJ was simulcasting at least part of the AM side at the time. I'm surprised that Dan didn't mention "77 AM and 95 & 1/2 FM (When WPLJ was WABC-FM, they used to advertise the station as "95 and a half," not "95.5" as the station was known when the call letters were changed to "PLJ." And hearing the "Robert Hall" advertisement brought back memories. But I thought that chain was in other Northern New Jersey counties as well (the advertisement pertains to the Union/Somerset/Middlesex area. Ironically, the "Plainfields" are appropriately divided - one to each of these counties
I think we have the same sickness. A bad case of nostalgia.Yes it was a better world back then. Lets take the first time machine and go back. Only do we meet in 65 or 68? Summer 68 I probably was at Orchard Beach in the Bronx. April 65 probably on a bus on Pelham Pkwy going home from school
Listen to rewound radio com they R doing Dan Ingram all Thanksgiving weekend. They re-build the music into the airchecks. By far the best dj of the era Hope ya see this in time
I know that you must cut the music due to copyright reasons, but is there any other place I could listen or download these recordings without any cuts? This is like being in a time machine, I love it!
The iconic “Daaan Ingram” jingle didn’t come until late 1966. Notice chime time here isn’t paired with the singers calling “WABC” before it: that too didn’t come until end of ‘65 or sometime in ‘66.
Biggest scam when we were kids. I had a 16 transistor AM radio. Guess what? Only 7 were used. The others did nothing. An AM radio 6-7 - maybe, maybe 8 at the most. Anything else was a scam.
Love the music and the jingles, but except for playing or reading out adverts in between they didn't do a lot ot programming, did they? I got tired after only 13 minutes of it. But maybe that's just because I was raised on European public radio and I'm not used to these blatant assaults of consumerism, so bear with me.
Even the commercials are catchy tunes and whatever happened to the word AMERICAN??? You hear on WABC 77 DAN INGRAM SHOW:""ALL AMERICAN GO GO RADIO*/ALL AMERICAN RADIO 77 WABC* Any listener out there wonder WHY no radio station today USES ""AMERICAN JINGLES""????
Really brought me back.. On my little transistor radio.

I am 9 years old. I live in Norwalk, CT. This is the only station that plays on the family radio. 🙆

Fine sounding air check from 1965.
Such good days, such a great DJ, sense of humor is priceless. I could listen to him forever.
Heard WABC from Endicott New York at night...always listened to the Top 20 countdown on Tuesday nights with Cousin Brucie
Being a clear-channel 50,000-watt station, it could be heard, at night, in the whole eastern US and parts of Canada.
