Kendrick Lamar Is 2024's Rapper Of The Year, No Debate!

- I believe what Kendrick Lamar did in 2024, will bring a shift in Hip-Hop and we will look at this moment, like we look at DMX in 1998, or Kanye West beating 50 Cent in their 2007 sales battle. Let's discuss!
#kendricklamar #hiphop #hiphopartist
As someone on the outside looking in & observing the culture. Big thanks for all you have covered this year. No debate Kendrick on top this year and dropping constant 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you sir. I appreciate the comment, the vote of confidence and the gesture! Happy Holidays to you!!!
Sidenote the West Coast as a whole has had an amazing year in rap.
Yup
Correction: California had an amazing year in rap. Cali is not the whole West Coast.
Got albums from Vince, Q, Tyler, Soulo, Earl, Doechii (ik she's not from there but she's TDE), Kendrick and more. I just wish we got the Jay Rock album too this year.
@@virgowoman1973 FACTS 🙌🏾
Cali 🆙️
Honourable mentions.
Doechii and Tyler had a great year.
Mach-hommy deserves honourable mention as well imo
Completely agree.
Gotta throw Glorilla too. She went a great run of singles this year
Future too!
38 Spesh also had a great year.
No debate whatsoever. You can have favorites, but Kendrick fundamentally shifted the landscape of hip hop by himself this year.
🫡
lmao if he wasn’t dissing we wouldn’t be discussing him
@@drbills-ij3se not even Cole stands by what he said, why are you still repeating this corny shit 😂
@@LDH777 is it a lie though?
He had to diss drake who had been running the game organically with music and no attention seeking gimmicks. but Kendrick had to call him a pedofile to shift the “culture “ okay buddy 👍🏾
I had to DJ a retirement party event with a mainly older crowd last night, they requested not like us and went crazy. Yeah it was definitely Kendrick year 😂
That’s hilarious 😂
Not Like Us at the retirement party is insane! 😮 😂😂
The imagery of it all! 😂😂😂
Not the elders turning up to NLU😂😂
Lmmfao Drake said it was botted.
By the time Kendrick takes the Super Bowl stage he would’ve been on our necks for practically an ENTIRE year straight ! And none of us got tired of him (excluding Drake lol) . This is unprecedented. It’s like he keeps putting quarters in the arcade machine and extending the playclock . Year of The BOOGEYMAN 🙌🏿
Crazy but it’s fact. It’s like a movie script he’s following.
@@mohamedfahad2364because it is . The narrative was executed perfectly by UMG . The marketing of both parties also . Its an uncrowned king taking his spot kind of story . This was organized entertainment. This aint hiphop . Its a live action musical . Kendrick has ghostwriters
FACTS! ❤ the arcade ref. 🥰
And i agree, not sure any rapper gave us 12 months of 🔥.
Yep. No debate.
It felt almost silly to say because OF COURSE HE IS lol
Kendrick swept his rap rival in the biggest rap battle in history so badly he ended up suing, got the whole globe paying attention and got a hit song out of it, put the West back in front and then did a rap album that got the whole community partying and thinking.
It's definitely his year.
Dot, Glorilla, and Doechii had a great run this year.
Absolutely correct ✅ Kendrick is #1 this year and it’s not even close.
🫡
It's unanimous. Kendrick's been on a legendary run. The biggest run of his 15 year career. Somebody reposted the Drake rap radar interview when he said about the big 3. When they all hit 10 years in the game. "Let's see who's still here in the next 5 years" Kendrick Did just that.
No doubt. Hiphop's greatest year this century. Tyler and Doechi was hot too. Pity we didn't get new material from J.I.D.
I have a feeling JID gonna have a big 2025
1. Kendrick
2. Tyler
3. Doechii
4. ScHool Boy Q
5. Vince Staples
The west is up
Doechii is not from the West Coast.
At this point, detractors are just haters. It is clearly Kendrick’s year and it should be. And he earned it. He deserves it all. People can have their faves, and that’s fine, but there should be no argument that it’s Kendrick’s year, hands down.
'Kendrick dropped' was the most iconic phrase in Hip Hop for 2024. He's definitely rapper of the year.
No debate at all whatsoever 💯
Real hip hop fans always remember and speak on impact.
I agree. Even now when I look through news feeds and my social media feeds with everything going on it’s still a lot of Kendrick headlines. It feels like this year everyone is talking about Kendrick and watching everything he does and says. He has to be rapper of the year.
I agree Kendrick caused the shift of this generation, he took out everything that was wrong and now rebuilding he is definitely rapper of the year
What did he take out?
@@lawjones1he is causing a shift. You either step up your game or you’ll miss out on the tidal wave that is already underway.
@BlissfullyLed i guess I'm asking for more specifics and maybe it's too early to tell. But what is this shift specifically? How's it different and where are we seeing it's ripples right now?
@@lawjones1 there’s a shift in every generation of hip hop he explained it in the video, bad boys dmx kayne vs 50 it may go over most people heads tho
@@Highroller16people don’t see it while they’re in it. Time has to pass. New artists emerge. Music changes. What was once popular changes. You’ll have to see it over time, and then you’ll come back to this year and be like, “Oh this began with Kendrick…”
Yep WE can all agree on that. THE MVP of 2024.
GOAT K LAMAR 💪🏾
It was 7 nominations but in 5 categories. He had 2 nominations for Like That but they were both in categories that Not Like Us was already in.
Correct! Thanks for that. Appreciate you
No problem! @@RobMarkman
This is MJ in 88 Curry in 16 and Shaq in 2000. No debate. Unanimous
🫡
Kendrick Lamar might of cemented him self as the all time GOAT after this year in my opinion. Definitely rapper of the year!
Honorable mentions Doechii and Tyler the creator had big years. Future 3 number one albums. The west in general 😂 ab soul, TDE school boy man
No debate so glad im from cali
Kendrick Lamar 🌹
Well said I agree with you 1000% and I was old enough to experience all those cultural shifts
No doubt about it! Second biggest have to be Tyler and then Doechii
Glorilla had arguably bigger year than Doechii overall. Yeah Glo, Wanna Be, TGIF were all hits and she got another hit with SexyRedd too
I tuned out of rap/hip hop in 2006 but kept my ear to certain artists like Kendrick and down south Texas artist mainly 90s artist (I’m a dinosaur). After my daughter started listening to Tyler a few years ago, him and a few artists make me hopeful about the coming years of hip hop..
I agree, he’s had a great year
Yoooo I totally forgot about the shift DMX album did. Great analogy. I'm looking forward to this shift too because with the incoming Amin we NEED substance! We've spent enough years twerking and clubbing. Time to get back to substance in mainstream.
No debate for 2024. Next up for 2025 it's the Grammys, Super Bowl, Stadium tour & most likely another album 🐐
What a heck of a run for a recluse!!!
2025 is gonna be bigger than 2024 for him.
Whoop! No debate🎉. My 90s rap fan self is so excited at what all this stimulated rapwise
🫡
Yep. I haven't followed rap like this since 2010 😂
Excited for 2025
It could be argued he’s the actual GOAT.
Kendrick hands down and I think its a high probability that it will be a repeat for 2025, he's got the Grammys, the SB, stadium tour and more than likely another album
2025 Will be bigger than 2024 for him.
Yes I don’t think he’s slowing down in 2025 and then eventually, he will disappear again 😂
Kendrick brought Hip Hop back let’s be fr, Billboard charts were filled with K Pop, Country and Latin songs
Most definitely. It was a hip hop reset
WE BUMPING KENDRICK FOR THE 10 PLUS SUMMERS MAKE IT 20 ALL I'M GOING TO SCREAM IS KENDRICK AND MUSTARD.ALL.. SUMMERS❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Awesome work Rob. Thank you for always being honest and representing the culture the right way!!!
Kendrick for sure but Tyler came very close especially when it comes to creativity, authenticity, and honesty.
@@Meannalee7 can’t take nothing away from Tyler at all. Can’t wait to see what that tour looks like
@Meannalee7 Initially that was my thought but then I sat back and considered all the music that dropped this year and #2 was not so straightforward for me. From Cordaé, Future, Vince Staples, TDE as a collective and even J. Cole (outside of the beef). Then legacy acts like Eminem, LL, Cube, Snoop and Dr.Dre, Common and Pete Rock, Xzibit, Busta and even Fat Joe. This year in hip hop was exciting, competitive and unpredictable again.
I see Tyler and Doechii mentioned in comments. Vince Staples should also be in the conversation.
Why ?
Listen to Dark Times
I did, it’s my second favorite of the year after GNX but in terms of impact Vince is nowhere near Tyler or Doechii
Number 2 for me is Docheii, her mixtape was an amazing example of versatility, and more importantly, potential
I agree, especially once we factor in her Tiny Desk performance (which easily shot up to top 3 and is still going crazy on YT.) And her 4 Grammy nominations-not to mention the fact she went on tour too! I saw her in Philly in Oct.
Kendrick had to respond to First Person Shooter. Ain’t no way he should’ve stayed silent on that. Especially since the other two talking about how they’re the best.
My toddlers can’t get enough of KDot! I had to switch my Apple Music profile to clean because they’ve been listening to him so much! 😝🙌🏾
FACTS on FACTS!
Kendrick this year is like that line on Ab-Soul DnD:
"He's doing A LOT"
Rob, you're the kind of Gate Keeper we need to keep us with the artists that are leading this change
The X analogy is spot on Rob. I remember just how much of an impact that album had when it dropped. All time classic that still bangs! That prayer gives me chills to this day!!
Word! Yo did you know they dropped an album of DMX prayers on Friday? Wild.
Yes Rob I totally agree this was Kendrick’s year he deserves it all ❤
Got my vote. Wop! Wop! Wop! Dot did his stuff.
No debate.. Kendrick what the culture feeling.. he voiced what many had been feeling for so long about commercial rap and what we had gradually accepted..
I was working w middle schoolers over the summer and 5th graders were rapping Not Like Us word for word and calling youknowho a pdf
It’s objectively Dot, even if you don’t like his music his impact alone can’t be denied. His lyrics were the focal point, he delivered on the charts, he put out a top album, and he absolutely filleted a man in front of everyone this year. No one had close to the same sort of year.
I agree as a true old head/hiphop auntie 🙂 I am enjoying Kendrick's journey period but especially this year
1000%
Kendrick
GloRilla
Tyler
Doechii
Future
I think those are the objective 5 when talking impact, quality, and what this year meant for their careers. Wouldn’t be my personal top 5 in terms of output, but these are the 5 who made the biggest difference through their music.
He has no competition K DOT da 🐐
Agreed Kendrick 💯
Love that we got the GNX album before the end of the year too, have been playing it nonstop since it dropped.
Always loved all of KDots albums but he single handledly this year got me fully back into Hip-Hop, even revisiting Wu-Tang’s 36 Chambers and all solo works from the Clan 😂😂😂.
Also helped that some of the OGs came back with heat this year, just in time to heal Hip-Hop.
Wild to do that on his own. No debate 2024 was his year and I'll think about this battle at least for the next 40 years
Kendrick #1
Tyler #2
Doechii #3
Agree kenny has best year ever. The only time I seen him take it all in on the Christmas shows. He just looked so uninterested throughout the whole wins.
Definitely Kendrick’s year! So many “I knew where I was” moments. I actually purchased tickets for the GNX tour because of how historic 2024 was for him (and of course because I’m a fan). But as a twenty-something who has never seen anything like this in rap (including this year’s battle since the last big battle happened when I was a toddler), I HAD to purchase those tickets and celebrate everything he accomplished this year going into next year.
Kendrick is the right answer.
- Most impactful guest verse: Kendrick on Like That
- Most impactful song/diss: Kendrick with Not Like Us
- Biggest show/moment: Pop Out concert
- Best and most anticipated rap album (IMO): GNX
Caused the biggest rapper at the time (Drake) to fall off epically. However you wanna slice it Kendrick absolutely deserves to be the rapper of the year.
I think the way he took out Drake and how he built something off that (e.g. Pop Out, Super Bowl, GNX, etc) is something we'll talk about for years. Looking forward to 2025
Great commentary!
Kendrick Lamar brought me back to hip hop and 2022 with “The Heart Part V” and I have kept me riveted since. I love ❤ MMATBS and still listen to it frequently. GNX is fire 🔥. I like that the album 💿 is as diverse as it is..
So yes after his accomplishments this year he not only deserves the title, he’s earned it! Salute 🫡
❤
Agree! And right under that, i would say it’s a close race for 2nd with Tyler, Q, Vince and Doechii!
Kendrick is on fire right now. It wouldn’t surprise me if 2025 was his year too.
No debate at all... He ran 2024!!
Bro is hotter than the sun right now
He made J Cole to apologize. He made Drake to sue. Kendrick Lamar is the undisputed goat in Hip-hop 👑🐐💯
No debate and if the rumors are true and he drops another album, 2025 may also be his year too.
Agree with you on #1 so imma give future #2, he had a hella 2024.
It would be cool if that group of you that have started to get together to discuss Hip-Hop occasionally, would come up with an agreed upon list of Top 10 Hip-Hop Artists of the Year and then discuss it live. It could be your end-of-the-year wrap up. I think it would be really interesting to hear how despite all of your different tastes, you came to agreement on one list. It might also introduce some of us to artists we don’t currently pay attention to, because I don’t think you all will base things solely on charts.
They’re debating you on Twitter after you said no debate 😂😂😂
Now I want that black GNX. I was 8 years old when the car first came out!
Number 2 has to be Tyler this year, Chromakopia is an incredible body of work.
Nope. No question. He meant "headshots for a year". Much needed energy shift!
yup! no debate whatsoever 💯👏🏽
Between Kdot and Doechi, I’m excited about the future of rap. I’ve been wanting less imagery and lyricism about ho3s, cars, jewelry and s3x.
Doechii and Tyler right after
The second time Kendrick Lamar has single-handedly forced the wider culture to refocus on lyricism in a year. Hasn’t been a lot of grand moments in the recent era. This battle. Control verse. JayZ on God Did and What’s Free. Exhibit C’s radio run. The start of the MMG run.
got tickets to Kendrick & Tyler and now Cole. Doechii would make my year complete
This is not a debate, just facts
KDot's year for sure, especially the way his Drake takedown and cultural shift towards watching the party die (all the while Diddy's facing his consequences in real time) worked in tandem to made Katt Williams proud too, to encapsulate 2024 from how it started.... Eminem added on with TDOSS in the summer, Cordae had a good run too on the low and I'm probably forgetting someone else's good year. But Kendrick took this one 100% with no sign of stopping, heading into '25
I don’t remember anything Hip-Hop/Rap that came out this year other than Kendrick
Roc Marciano is the super rapper this year the Kendrick vs Drake was over hyped and overdue
Fact.
I’d go as far as saying, it’s not just rap but music overall, he’s been the hottest music artist of the year. Yeah I know Taylor swift dropped a sprawling slop of an album that did well commercially but culturally it was nothing.
Kendrick left a huge imprint in hip hop culture and pop culture overall.
He’s 2024 artist mvp.
And what’s scary is it looks like 2025 is gonna be bigger than 2024 for him when u take into account the upcoming Grammys, Superbowl performance, album drop (more than likely), stadium tour, film with the south park guys, documentary on his 2024-2025 run (yes, DJ Hed said Dave Free has been recording everything backstage and behind the scenes even during the pop out show), etc.
Then Feb 2026 he gets to win other Grammys for his 2024-2025 Albums.
Scary.
It looks like a movie script he’s executing.
Yh. No debate
I think it was 7 nominations Rob..in 5 categories.
No debate. Future folks are gonna be mad.
No more microwaveable music we need more music with substance
Please 🙏🏾
Thank you..
It is just HIM!
Number two rapper of the year gotta be Em, he had the entire first quarter
Yes, I agree. Dot has the crown. It’s indisputable at this point. I think 🥈 is Doechii (mixtape, tour, Grammy noms and legendary Tiny Desk performance that’s still being reached to all over RUclips) and 🥉 goes to Tyler because Chromakopia is a gut wrenchingly beautiful work of art and his Flog Gnaw performance was electrifying! It made me cry.
I hope you’re right about the shift, but I’m not so sure! Just watched a video from another RUclips reactor, pretty well known. He put out a list of his top 10 songs of the year and he said he got a ton of negative feedback because of the amount of lyrical songs he had in it. People saying nobody cares about the Uce music!!
Look at what’s on the charts. Look who has made an impact. The culture is calling for it. Social media is a slim proportion to what is actually the reality.
I hope you're right because it could be hip-hop's last hope. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but I genuinely don't think hip-hop can survive 5 more years being the watered-down version of itself that it's been for the last 5 or so years. We were starting to see the chickens come home to roost with the declining sales even with Drake, Future and others still being hyper-active. A reset is necessary, and it would set someone like Doechii up perfectly to be one of the NEW stars leading the charge.
5:15 I think that was 2001, Rob.
"No Debate" 😂😂😂😂 Yeah that Billboard post hit some nerves lol
No debate at all.
The beef effects will be felt for years especially with this Drake situation. The cultural shakedown has been amazing
Oh and number two. Tyler the Creator
No debating facts
