  • I believe what Kendrick Lamar did in 2024, will bring a shift in Hip-Hop and we will look at this moment, like we look at DMX in 1998, or Kanye West beating 50 Cent in their 2007 sales battle. Let's discuss!

The second time Kendrick Lamar has single-handedly forced the wider culture to refocus on lyricism in a year. Hasn’t been a lot of grand moments in the recent era. This battle. Control verse. JayZ on God Did and What’s Free. Exhibit C’s radio run. The start of the MMG run.

KDot's year for sure, especially the way his Drake takedown and cultural shift towards watching the party die (all the while Diddy's facing his consequences in real time) worked in tandem to made Katt Williams proud too, to encapsulate 2024 from how it started.... Eminem added on with TDOSS in the summer, Cordae had a good run too on the low and I'm probably forgetting someone else's good year. But Kendrick took this one 100% with no sign of stopping, heading into '25

Roc Marciano is the super rapper this year the Kendrick vs Drake was over hyped and overdue

    Fact.
I’d go as far as saying, it’s not just rap but music overall, he’s been the hottest music artist of the year. Yeah I know Taylor swift dropped a sprawling slop of an album that did well commercially but culturally it was nothing.
Kendrick left a huge imprint in hip hop culture and pop culture overall.
    He’s 2024 artist mvp.
And what’s scary is it looks like 2025 is gonna be bigger than 2024 for him when u take into account the upcoming Grammys, Superbowl performance, album drop (more than likely), stadium tour, film with the south park guys, documentary on his 2024-2025 run (yes, DJ Hed said Dave Free has been recording everything backstage and behind the scenes even during the pop out show), etc.
Then Feb 2026 he gets to win other Grammys for his 2024-2025 Albums.
    Scary.
It looks like a movie script he’s executing.

Yes, I agree. Dot has the crown. It’s indisputable at this point. I think 🥈 is Doechii (mixtape, tour, Grammy noms and legendary Tiny Desk performance that’s still being reached to all over RUclips) and 🥉 goes to Tyler because Chromakopia is a gut wrenchingly beautiful work of art and his Flog Gnaw performance was electrifying! It made me cry.

I hope you’re right about the shift, but I’m not so sure! Just watched a video from another RUclips reactor, pretty well known. He put out a list of his top 10 songs of the year and he said he got a ton of negative feedback because of the amount of lyrical songs he had in it. People saying nobody cares about the Uce music!!

Look at what’s on the charts. Look who has made an impact. The culture is calling for it. Social media is a slim proportion to what is actually the reality.

I hope you're right because it could be hip-hop's last hope. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but I genuinely don't think hip-hop can survive 5 more years being the watered-down version of itself that it's been for the last 5 or so years. We were starting to see the chickens come home to roost with the declining sales even with Drake, Future and others still being hyper-active. A reset is necessary, and it would set someone like Doechii up perfectly to be one of the NEW stars leading the charge.
