Turtle WoW is basically a what-if server that stays true to the Pre-TBC Vanilla/Warcraft 3 lore. It builds upon it, adding new zones, new areas, new content, new raids, dungeons, etc. Cast your mind back to the days of vanilla and remember what it was like to anticipate a new patch coming out with excitement. Wondering what we'd see next? Turtle WoW is basically that. Sure it isn't perfect, and has some bugs from time to time, but overall the content is really polished and immersive. I definitely recommend it if you want to ignore what retail lore has become and start over from the good old days.

Or you want the classic+ experience, go with Turtle Wow

I myself am working on a game in Unity and to do that I had to learn to code and now 3D model in Blender etc etc. People without the time or money to learn those skills but who still have awesome ideas could be making amazing unique games.
Just think about DOTA: created as a custom gamemode for Warcraft 3 that became one of the biggest games in the world. Now compare in your mind the infinite number of possibilities that WoW and it's engine offer to creatives. It's unleashing a torrent of creativity and fresh blood into the gaming market. So for Wrath, there was a zone underground where you were supposed to meet a whole other faction... that could be expanded upon and an entire other leveling path underground could be added. There is a giant troll temple in Zul'drak where there was supposed to be another planned raid... that could be made. Classes could be rebalanced and affixes could exist that allows for different playstyles of existing specs. New races/classes relevant to the expansion could be introduced like Tuskar for races or Necromancer and classes dealing with dragon aspects like Chronomancer, Dreamwalker, and Dragonsworn (yellow, green, and red respectively). Maybe you bring in goblins and them and the gnomes use the titan tech to have tinkerers in the game. You can do this with any expansion to really flush it out.

Mounts shared between account,Transmog system shared between acc,Garisson was pretty cool so that would be dope in WOTLK,new raids because VOA-OS-Naxx-Ulduar-TOC-ICC-RS is just too little

I played Ascension a lot a couple years back. The problem when I played it, at least in PVE, is that it's literally the whole "you play this optimized spec" thing you see in raiding in the real game, but dialed up to 11, to where your raid leaders pretty much gave you a spec, and you played it, and that was it. The raids themselves were set up in such a way that there was a lot of just RNG on some bosses that made it way too random on success or failure (Prince in Kara was notorious for this). And that's assuming the boss worked.
If you just played 5 man content it was great, but if you wanted to progress into raid content, the game was absolutely horrible, and there wasn't enough content to keep people interested if you didn't go into raids because clearing the 5 man content was pretty easy once you got some items. I remember hearing they were going to take some steps to fix the content up a bit, particularly with the RNG on certain bosses, but I left before they got there.
Ascension's draw was really based around it's gimmicks, particularly in PVP, but I wasn't that kind of player lol.

The server has a ton of flaws and big issues.
Ascension saw a massive surge of players early season 7 but started rapidly bleeding them out around halfway through. The devs got noticeably more greedy, there's been a lot of completely absurd changes, major balancing issues, the constant attempts to revive PvP content by luring in PvE players etc.

I dunno whether the effects were purposely kept nerfed (with snowstorms entirely removed) or if the classic team was completely unaware of it when they ported the game to the modern client.
If you go to a vanilla private server and make a character in dun morogh, there's a good chance you'll see the snowstorm while running through the zone. It was amazing.
At least they kept the server day/night cycle as it was, getting dark at 9pm instead of frikin 12am like it is on retail. I haven't been able to see it get dark in retail for years because I can't stay up that late. WHY was that change ever made anyway?
    Rant over.

I love this idea, Warcraft 3’s world generator was one of the best features that Blizzard had created for their games, but I doubt they will be open to this. Ever since they lost DOTA’s IP, the whole community driven content thing left a bad taste in Blizzards mouth and appear to be adverse to be open to any ideas that could lead to it happen again.

Having a retail wow server that worked like Ascension honestly sounds kind of dope, although I'm not sure how blizzard would get it to work since retail gameplay has a lot more flow between individual spells and abilities in a specific class. That flow isn't a bad thing, but it does make it hard to get an Ascension style "pick your own abilities" game kind of hard to get working properly.

It's also the player experience that chases people away from retail. I found retail felt almost hostile towards the newbie player that hasn't experienced Warcraft before. My husband and I had always wanted to play WOW together but found ourselves quitting pretty quickly and moving to a private server where the community was more geared towards the content experience for those who don't know the mechanics yet and they are a lot more helpful.
I found as a new player, I didn't know how to handle being griefed or getting chucked out of dungeons because I wasn't sure about the ins and outs of the different classes yet. I've only experienced other players helping the newbie on private servers.
The experience I had on retail as a new player put me off ever going back. If I can't play on private, I don't want to play and I doubt I'm the only one who feels that way.

I really do think this idea has some merit. It would be hard to get going initially, but if they did this, it would put WoW back at the forefront of MMO ingenuity for sure. I wonder if it would detract or alter how they run it currently, what effect it could have on regular content release to keep their regular audience happy. But this big addition to the game would add endless longevity to it, and definitely would attract new players.

  • @Mallikeet
    @Mallikeet Год назад +1

This is something I've thought about a lot, since it's something that no high profile MMO's have seemingly ever done. It feels like it could be a real ace in the hole once the game truly starts to die and if a World of Warcraft 2 isn't something they seek to develop. By effectively letting the community develop their own versions of World of Warcraft that go in whatever direction they want, while still requiring a subscription fee to host or access those custom versions, it would easily extend the longevity of the game theoretically infinitely even if Blizzard loses interest in actively developing or investing heavily in it themselves and still having cash flow in.

Lvl1 you can choose between squire/physical and chemist/magical. Then at lvl3 of squire you unlock knight and archer. Each job has a skill menu and leveling that job you can get more skills within said skill menu. However, characters can have 2 job skill menus at any time... each job also has passive and active skills that you have if its your active/main job but can be unlocked and used alongside another main job. For example Ninja can equip a weapon in each hand. That passive can be used on a Knight and you can use two knight swords(that are not specifically two handed) it makes dual classing really fun.

The problem is more so how restricted it is because you can do a lot of things on private servers currently like through modding the client which likely wouldn't be possible on an official thing so they would need to make tools that are essentially as powerful. I'd imagine on their end there would be a lot of things they would need to change to make this work but it would be great for the game, it would absolutely end up influencing the main game as well.

Ive thought the same thing. Open source the wow source code and adopt a spotify-like model where users pay a flat sub fee and severs get payed based on the users they attract + maybe a cash shop, I can't see who would lose out of this scenario and its the only way to keep the very diverse wants of the wow community, rather than trying to keep everyone happy each expansion. There is also something about the lack of 'officialness' that puts me off private servers, which matters in a game that demands so much time, along with the risk that the server could go down any day.
WoW would basically become a platform rather than a game, which would allow blizzard to focus on good server infrastructure to enable players to play all over the world with low ping along with providing very good modding tools.

I've played Nost and other older expansion servers before classic and they were always extremely popular because people already knew what they were and wanted to play it, before nostalrius private servers like Molten WoW had a huge issue of people playing on them, learning that it was pay to win, and then never touching them again. After Nost servers like Elysium and Northdale repeated the style of being "Nost Like" which was always more popular than ascension wow and other creative servers no question. I think it's a mistake to group Blizz-like servers with servers that offer a brand new wow experience, and while I don't think they're a bad idea, I don't think it's worth blizzards time/money to invest a complicated system like that, there just isn't all that much proof of concept besides these ones that are more popular recently that could only be seeing more traffic because of an lack of SoM2.
I still wish that they'd do something like this, but I think the chance is maybe 0.1%, at least one creative server would have to be so popular that they can't ignore it, and right now they're very easy to ignore.
