Flex seal might not stop a bullet but it can sure fix that leak.
You beat me too it. I was thinking the same thing.
That’s a lot of damage
I was thinking the same thing. 👍🏼
But the surface should be dry. Will have to drain the tank.
Meh, Matt using that stuff just for ants 😀
I can't unhear the goats yelling "Maaaatt"
Dammit now I cant unhear it
I was just thinking the same thing
we need a T-shirt
😂😂😂😂
Nooooo you ruined it
Put a float valve on it. No need to turn the valve on, it will automatically fill the tub.
Float valves are Lifesavers and don't require any electricity.
I use them in my aquariums and some more fancy ATOs
Exactly what I was thinking. Bam kick up a notch! (Tool T Time reference) I love projects like this and totally understand your excitement!!
Would just mean bypassing the overflow through a separate pipe.
I was coming to say the same thing. Growing up my family had horses and we had float valves on all the troughs
Been a plumber for 20 years. Your set up for rain collection with the overflow is decent. Any time you’re using plastic to metal make sure to use a union on each side of the threaded connection. Even us plumbers will have a leak on plastic to brass every now and then. Throw a couple pieces of scrap copper in the trough. It will keep the algae down. Don’t ask me why I’m a plumber not a microbiologist but it seems to work.
whats a union?
@@bermchasin it’s like a coupling but has a gasket or mechanical compression joint that are joined buy a single threaded nut. So even if a joint leaks down or up stream the single nut can be loosened and the connection that is leaking can be removed, then re done (tape, dope, re assembled) then reinstalled without cutting pipe and replacing fittings. Glue joints leaking don’t apply only mechanical connections.
@@realryanduggerwhat's a coupling
@@realryandugger thanks! makes sense
Copper makes for a very fine water bottle. It purifies water and helps your body regulate its pH
You don't have to do anything, but I would suggest putting a small solar panel + charge controller and just like an old RC car battery (that can maintain a few watts at 12 volts 24/7) on your goat shack, adding a sensor to both the barrel and the trough, and setting it up so you can monitor remotely. Last thing you want is being busy for a few days longer than usual and your goats not having any water in the heat of summer, if you can just get a notification when either the trough or barrel is too low that would let you know to go help them out.
Copper wire in the bottom of the tank helps keep algae under control
Sad this dosent have more likes.
It works SO GOOD!!!
I have copper in the dogs auto water bowl, the chickens auto water bowl, and the pool. It's like magic.
and other nasty critters, kills invertebrates
this sounds like witchcraft, i want him to try this.
I use a lil scrap pc of copper pipe in bottom of tank, works for me.
We put some copper pipe scraps in ours and it works great! No more algae, no more scrubbing troughs.
If Matt ❤’s this, we’re making him a custom clock with the Demo Ranch logo 😎
Does any Matt count?
Boom
I read this as a custom “Glock” first time…lol 😂
Let goooooooo can't wait to see it
@@NitrousDiecasti seen c*ck myself 😂
I love watching you talk about rain collection systems so that's at least one person!
2. I have a garden and a self watering system
Love it too, I will own a house one day, and a rain water collection system is one of my first projects
I’d like one too!

So nice to hear your boy's voice. I understand completely why you are keeping them all off of your videos, but i still miss seeing them after they were so much a part of your videos for so long.
I agree, that was one of the main reasons I watched his videos for the family altogether feeling. Now his videos are kinda shitty like those of larry Mitchell so I don't watch hardly at all, to each his own I guess.
I see he’s more than happy for Jenna to continue being in front of the camera.
@nathangee7075 She is his employee.
@@davidcassidy6226 she’s also subject to the same attention and comments that mere was.
I know you probably mean well.....but as a father, someone posting online they thought it was nice to hear my boy's voice again would creep me out :-)
As a guy running a ranch I would recommend dumping the water trough every other day maybe every 3 days at least, it’ll ensure no worms laying eggs in the water
If it's constantly being fed by a well, do you need to worry about it?
Complete overkill and unnecessary. I have goats and I swear they crap in their water on purpose. Goats aren't people and I bet that water is actually good for them. Nature knows what it's doing.
There will be a day that floor gets wet. What about just keeping everything up on pallets?
Better yet, build some shelves like 6" off the ground and store hay on it
Too bad he didn't have this idea before pouring that slab.. could of installed/MacGyver'd a quick drainage system into the floor.
Pallets rot over time
@@kentuckysurvival not the plastic ones.
You might have to put a vent at the high point so it don't vacuum lock Of the watering system
For protecting the hay/feed from any leaks, I would suggest creating a low rack that would lift the hay/feed off of the damp concrete. Doing this would offer protection from a leaking cistern system or any other leaks that may occur.
Instead of cutting off the too tall poles, find some sort of header board in all the scrap around the resort and attach it to the top of the poles level with the sign.
That is what I was going to post. I suspect that those telephone poles would be VERY difficult to trim the tops off of. Probably very hard wood. A header would be a lot less work to install, and look better.
Agreed
@@KameraShy header board would be fine but those poles will cut like butter with a sharp saw.
If you put goldfish in the water trough it they will eat the algae and keep the tank clean and the goats won’t mess with them!
You should build storage shelf that will get the hay off the ground and use food safe plastic storage barrels for feed to keep everything dry. You should also get larger water storage tank!😍😍
Put a little roof over the water trough to help keep it clear. Sun turns water green, algae bloom I think it’s called.
That's what I did with mine. It doesn't keep it perfectly clean but it helps out a lot
horse girls just use a toilet scrub brush to clean the algae off once in a while when it gets too yukky...
@@leilaparker4371 does Matt look like a horse girl?!?!?!
scrap copper piping works good too, untreated clear copper tough
algae is a plant, sunlight makes it grow, a roof over it will help keep direct light out, and the tub is black so it shouldn't let any in from the sides and that should really cut down on it big time. id suggest just moving it inside the building as the easiest solution to the algae but then you will have water in with the hay and thats not great.
After you fix the leak, (flex seal) don't forget to insulate
the pipes so they don't freeze and break next winter. Praying for a blessed range and eclipse event. 🙏 🤠
Friend of mine keeps goldfish in the water tanks for her goats to eat the algae that forms.... Her watering tanks are 4 times the size of Matt's and are covered...
Dude, your fans are the forgiving type. Most are just thrilled to say that they are among the first to stay at the Desperado. Relax. It will be good.
Wrap the threads on the copper pipe with Teflon Tape in the same direction of the threads.
For the camper/parking spots, put in stakes coated with Florescent Red paint 0:01 to mark out a 10 ft wide driving lane between parking rows, easiest is to buy 3 gallons of Exterior paint with 1-1/2 paintbrushes from the local hardware store or Lowes. Lay the stakes next to each other to coat them en-mass, turn 90 degrees & repeat until fully coated.
For the goats water there is a thing for pools Called a water leveler that attaches to your hose and then goes onto the bucket and it automatically fills water up to a certain level if it evaporates. You could attach it to the bucket and it will automatically fill.
I think it's called a flapper valve
@@luke-ss8vu Flapper valve? That would be the thing at the bottom of your toilet, lol
@@luke-ss8vuFloat valve
You could put a Eve Aqua or a Bulldog valve so you could schedule it to pour water everyday to keep it fresh

Copper is a natural algae killer. You can throw in some scrap pieces and that will inhibit growth. Or gold fish.
Yeah you probably don’t want your goats ingesting copper oxide
knowing goats you don't want either in there lol.
use a file, and grind some off as dust, to increase surface area
Copper poisoning can kill goats. They do need copper in their diet, but too much will kill them.
you do this when keeping reptiles except its a penny but has to be older than 83
Old school Pipe leak repair:
Cut a piece of tire inner tube 1/2" - 1" wide and 2'-3' long. Wrap the ribbon of rubber tape around the leaking seam, pulling very tight as you go until you reach the end and hold in place with a piece of bailing wire, a layer of electrical tape or a tie wrap. I wrap my tape before the leak to after the leak and back to before and aft... quadrupling the layers with building compression.
It is permanent.
its a bulkhead fitting on the tank so you can partially loosen the outer ring can twist it in place so u can tighten the nipple into the ball valve that i think would be the best way to get a proper fix
Excellent rainwater recovery system, particularly your overflow device - I like it. Like yourself, we found utility in having a similar system, albeit slightly larger. Our barn roof is 2200 square feet and our tank is 40,000 gallons, which after a year is now finally full. The tank is fed from dual 4 inch PVC pipes and the overflow is on a single 6 inch PVC pipe. For those who are curious, input equals 2 x pi x r squared = 2 x 2 squared, equals 8 x pi = 25.12 square inches of input pipe. Output is just pi x r squared = pi x 3 squared = 28.26 square inches. Essentially, it is impossible for the inflow to the tank to exceed the outflow when the tank is full.
Put some Flex Seal on it!
lets see if it actually works :D
Just use generic Self Amalgamating Tape. Cause its not "a lot of damage", just a leak.
Matt uses his flex seal to kill ant hills.😂😂
I was going to say, if anyone should know the answer to his question, it should be himself! Isn't he the Flex Seal expert?
Matt's attempt to fish for comments worked on us. You know he knows about flex tape/caulk, silicone self sealing tape is what I would use for this. Then resin fiberglass leak repair.
Flex Seal or
J-B Weld WaterWeld. An epoxy putty stick specially formulated to make permanent repairs in moist or underwater applications. It cures in just 1 hour and is extremely versatile. This epoxy putty stick can be used in a variety of projects such as building, plumbing, repairs, and craft projects. This epoxy is resistant to water, oil, gas, and most chemicals, so use it in household plumbing projects. The J-B Weld WaterWeld is a must-have for any tool bag or craft box, so keep some on hand and use it for all project needs.
A tip for the rain water collection is to have a dead leg below the downspout collector, with a drain plug on the bottom. It will collect the first bit of water that washes the dust and crap off the roof, keeping it out of the collection tank and water trough. Probably not as big of a deal for goats as for people, but I figured I'd share it anyway. Some put a float ball check valve at the top to seal it off when full also.
"Nobody cares about my water collection systems" - I absolutely LOVED the chicken coop series, it's still one of my favorite series on this channel. From the little cannel for the chicklets all the way to the little chicken palace with a garden. We need little project vlogs like that again!
Look in the plumbing section. They make a tape that's water activated. Wrap it around the leak, as it gets wet it'll seal.
Yes it is self adhering silicon stretch plumbers tape. It can be put on wet and fuses to itself. It can also be used for pressurized leaking supply pipes.
The progress made on the resort is inspiring. Shows what hard work and determination can do. 👏
Hope you're putting screens on the pipes, critters will climb in lol
We would use goldfish to stop algae in our troughs, they would also help with bugs and now you pretty much have a constant water supply I'd look into that.👍
Put copper pipe chunks whatever in the water barrel. It stops algae from forming for some reason
Just make a little overhang over the goat trough for extra shade
Rain water collection is no joke. My Aunt's ranch has a horse arena that's so big they only use half of the roof to pump water to a house with 6 bathrooms lol
Matt, your pressures at different heights is listed below. The size of the container does not matter and only the height that will change the pressure.
4 Feet = 5.6 psi
3 Feet = 4.2 psi
2 Feet = 2.8 psi
I have my rain spout on my barn roof emptying into a barrel for my chickens, have their water dish under the spigot of the barrel, no need to be carrying water!!! So handy!
Never leave much in the way of comments, but after a few years of watching you channel, it dawned on me that you are a classic example of what one can accomplish with some really hard work.
Invest in one of the line drawing machines you push over athletic fields to lay out your parking areas.
If you want the lines to truly be temporary, like setting up something for range day but you don't want the same lines showing up weeks later when you have a different event, use white flour instead of chalk. The truck fades but has a tendency to stick around. The flower will disappear with the rain.
Matt, you might want to look at placing a screen or some type of filtration device on the inlet of the water tank. If dirt or whatever is allowed build up inside over time; that looks like it would be a pain to clean out.
I think he did say he put a grate over it.
2:01 there's a grate at the top of the funnel
A bitch to clean out? Just run the hose( sprayer) open valve and go away...or just clean it out every major down pour
Happy Easter to you and your family!! You got this !!!🐇🐥❤️🙏🏻 praying for you all !!!
Once the black tub outside fills, and you continue to get rain, you referenced that the rain will just spill over and out of the black tub onto the ground. If you have too much or that happening, it may start to go under the slab and or cause erosion around the slab that could crack it. Just a thought, but your ground is different than ours here.
You can put gold fish in the water bucket to eat the algae that grows, and they will also eat mosquito larvae in the water.
If you have a band come out and play. Make sure you have a cover for them.
Wish google earth would update so we could see the range… that’s gonna be awesome
You can also get “first in flush” for the downspout…
if you ever want cheap parking lines that last forever on gravel. Old used fire hose cut to make a parking space and use a big 6" spike to tack it down. works like a charm
9:38 you could also attach a small overhang above it off the side of the shed for when the sun is on the other side
ive seen someone on tiktok that puts copper rods in the water tubs to keep it clear
That’s what we do for our horses, works perfectly
Yup, surprised Matt doesn't know that.
Try Plumbers Putty. It’s the gray Playdough like stuff you can mold around stuff. It’s used to seal Drains to Sinks in the Kitchens.
No don't use putty
It won't stop the leak......clear silicone will work
Spray on flex seal will technically make it water tight. I dont recommend it if you plan on taking it apart again.
Just a suggestion for the water system.🐐🐐🐐It would probably be a good idea to put a screen at the top of the PVC pipe that catches the water coming off the roof to keep leaves and other debris out of the system. It could even be clamped with the clamp you already have there. Love your system. The range is definitely epic!!
You’re a good prepper. Goals. Just be careful with the eclipse stuff as something smells rotten with that entire thing.
God Bless! Happy Easter!

I'm eating chicken nuggets 😂
I am eating potato chips
i got sum mac n cheese
If your going out can you get me a burrito supreme
@@keiganhall895 yeah sure man
Matt, you have done a great job developing this resort. I know you have a long way to go but you are well on your way.
My suggestion on that external pipe going to the water trough is that you paint the pipe black, as sunlight can permeate white PVC water pipe and algae can fester in it.
Try goldfish for the alge in the water my mom uses in horses water
BUT ... goats aren't horses. Goats will eat anything.
@@KameraShymy goats haven’t eaten the goldfish in their trough. They’ve been there going on 3 years now
@@KameraShy They gotta catch it first. Oh - and most horses must think they're goats because they'll eat just about anything, too. It just takes them longer to get bored.
When you get that drum filled, put a valve on the END of the hose and you can walk down there and shut if off when it's full.
and leave the line pressured all the time? yeah no
@@twiggss4344 No! You turn it on at the source, walk out there ONCE and turn it off and the source when it's filled. Then shut it off when you're back up at the source. I can't believe he was making two trips. Hose end valves are CHEAP in a hardware store.
I have a few acres, no way am I walking 200' of water hose twice for nothing.
Good water
You can use m-seal for that leak
It is kind of clay that we can put on leaky metal or pvc pipes and it dries after putting it on and will be as hard as metal in a day
To help with algae in the goat water , put copper pipe lengths or copper pipe fittings. Works great in my chickens water buckets
Wow, I can only assume that was Linc with you at the goat pen. Crazy to hear how much his voice has changed in the meantime. I hope they're all doing well and staying safe from the weirdos.
Loving the let’s go Brandon shirt
why don’t you leave the water hose on all the time and just put a shutoff valve on the end of it
Or a Bluetooth connected valve he could turn on and off with his phone instead of walking back and forth.
i can hear the advertisements for flex seal creeping in the background somewhere
Matt, you’re just proof that with hard work you can achieve things actually can achieve anything you want as long as you put your heart to it. You don’t give up keep moving along Matt. I want to come to this resort and stay there can’t wait you’re doing a great job buddy and the water catchment, that would not fly in California somehow they would give you a ticket or arrest you for it, but it is awesome. The goats are lucky.
Thisnk the goats were singing BOOTYSNAPPLE -
We have the same for our water for the main herd . I clean it every other week to keep the green from coming
The machine gun line would be a good spot for taking portrait photography, especially with those cool looking clouds as a backdrop.
If you can find a trough made out of copper, or one that's silver plated, it could keep the water fresher for longer. There's also bottles of enzymes you can buy for trough water.
With how the video started, I wouldn't have guessed the end. Just such a wholesome channel, you are amazing! ❤
A wise man once told me “Slow progress is still progress. No matter how small the accomplishment is, it’s one step closer to the end goal”. That’s stuck with me throughout a long of long and tedious projects! Keep up the awesome work man!
I WISH you had another channel dedicated to rain water collection and detailed explanations on how to do it your self. I find it absolutely amazing! 1:30
Need to hurry and get some straw or mesh on the berm before it totally erodes away
Every little step makes it more believable. You're doing great work, just like the abandoned mansion. I'm excited for you and your family, including the Demolitia family working with you. Well done, Sir!!
In the uk we use CT1 you can use in gutters submerged in water to stop leaks
Put gutter shelds on the gutter to minimize the dirt and leafs getting stuck in there and going into the tank possibly clogging it too
Put some copper tubing in the bottom of the water bucket. Copper keeps bacteria and algae from growing in their dish and it will keep it cleaner longer. If you do switch to a metal trough through, the copper can react with other metals.
Bike tube cut into strips, wrap around the leak until the it stops dripping. Then wrap the rubber strip with electrical tape. By the time the wrap rots off, the minerals in the water will have sealed the leak. It works.
Love the professional attitudes to safety and good organisation. 👌👍
Matt, cut your riser not much above your 45. Install a union so you can fix your leak. This will also help you out with future repairs.
Use liquid pipe thread sealant on the outside, the same stuff you use on gas lines. I used it to patch a small water leak in the supply line to my water heater and it has held the last couple years.
Yeah no that's no a good fix.....clear silicone would do just fine
Pipe leak wrap bandage. Not cheap but plumbers use for temporary seal in emergency. Goes on wet like a hospital leg cast would but the chemicals make it super hot as iit sets and goes hard and seals. We use it in paper mill for even 24" pipes , it takes a few bandages but it keeps. production online.
get 2 pvc glue couplings , then cut the pipe on the bypass line above the valve then at the short piece between the wye and the threaded adaptor going onto the valve. once cut, thread the valve another turn tighter. Then glue the couplings back into the lines you cut, done. You can unscrew the valve and reapply thread tape if you think you need more but another turn or even half a turn should fix the leak. The valve handle might not be directly on the top but it doesnt matter, looks to be plenty of room to work even if the handle has to swing down towards the floor to open or close.
J.B. WELD PUTTY! several sticks and then put a Cut some PVC in half to make a shell around it sand witch the J.B. Weld putty inbetween the pvc and then put hose clamps around the pvs and tighten it up to create a water tight seal ... it will be quit perminant...
Flex seal stops leaks. I had some leaks on my metal roof and went up there and sprayed flex seal on the fasteners a year ago 2:28 and stopped all leaks.
Congrats Matt! This looks like it’s going to be a blast.
7:51 make a catch sleeve and run a small drip pipe out below your current pipe.
Blue monster compression pipe tape would work. You can get it at Lowe’s or Home Depot in the plumbing section.
Let’s get an update on the holy hummer
Phantom F4 tape. Comes in various widths. An excellent self binding, chemically self fusing tape that can sustain even a high-pressure. I keep a roll in each of our vehicles, can even fix a radiator hose burst. Hope this helps
Don't forget a piece of wire mesh over the entrance/exit to prevent critters going in
water source isnt the problem for the algae, it just needs a little roof or something to keep the direct sunlight out so the algae doesnt grow as much. water system looks wicked otherwise. you may want to put an over flow drain on the outdoor tank off to the side of the fence. if your getting enough to overflow to the tub, then theres a good chance the tubs going to overflow too, better to have somewhere for that water to go rather than right in front of the tub (unless it drains well there already)
paint some gasket sealer around the threads and it’ll probably stop that leak by the ball valve. speaking as an irrigation guy, it would be best to detach and redo that connection but, try the gasket sealer first.
Super awesome! Hoping one day I'll make it to a range day!
If you get some kinda pump jack you can push the sides of the shipping container back out weld a support on the roof and then triangulate off them to the sides to hold it up
I use to build parking lots curb sidewalks sealcoat stripe and etc if you gravel and compact it you can paint lines on the gravel and it will give you parking stalls last a lot longer than you would expect
