The Reds were on Game of the Week at least 4 weeks in a row in May 1981 -- vs. Houston on May 9, at Pittsburgh on May 16, and vs. LA on May 23 and 30. Each time they were the primary game. They did end 1981 with baseball's best record, but because of the split season imposed after the players' strike, they narrowly missed the postseason altogether.
Shooty Babitt one of the rookies highlighted in the pre game show only played that one season in the majors 54 games, was completely out of baseball 3 years later at age 25.
wow this is great.....what a time capsule......and my indians could have had a no hitter from bert b...but larry littleton screwed...up watched it many times and cant figure out what he was doing in the outfield!

The owners were trying to undermine free agency by taking a player from the other team that the player signed with. The owners ended up getting an extra draft pick to compensate, anyways.
Ladies and gentlemen.. Beautiful Bobby and Sweet Stan... The Midnight Express...,
Sorry the intro music brought back memories
This was the same day as game 3 of the NBA Finals (ironically in Houston), the last Saturday NBA Finals game for 40 years
Great game for Bench - tied Yogi Berra for 29th all-time in MLB with his 358th HR. This was his first year in getting away from catching.

They got jobbed.
Yup. They were robbed. They finished the first half in second place 1/2 behind the Dodgers and one less game played. How is that fair?
That 1981 Reds team was really robbed. They could have won it all.
amazing that puhl got a double on a ball hit right at center field!
Dave Collins was my favorite Red.
Did the guy in the commercial at 21:24 complain, "Aw, ref!" during a softball game? XD
He got flagged for roughing the catcher and spent two hours in the penalty box. Lol.

What was the instrumental in that "NBC Sportsworld" plug at 12:16? TWiB also used it for highlights sometimes.
