I totally get it. To this day I still have the Burger King "Hold the pickles" and as well as the McDonald's Big Mac jingles stored in my brain taking up valuable space....At least they weren't as long as this thing.
I havent heard this song in 30 years...it was such a big deal being little and playing it on my brown and tan Fisher Price record player. ...thanks for the trip down Memory lane
5,000$ could get you a decent new econobox back then. Now what's little more than an oversized roller skate costs well over ten grand. How American currency became so devalued in a few decades. :-/
Part of this promo was if you sang the song to the cashier you got whatever you wanted for free. I remember this for a fact because I got a few free meals from it.
This randomly came in my head today... it’s been like 30+ years since I’ve thought of it or heard it. Thank goodness for RUclips - you can relive so many memories and get that nostalgic feeling.
Really? I call bullshit. There was an actual winner of the million dollar record out of Galax, Virginia, who goes by the name of Charlene Price. She reportedly used the money to buy the convenience store she worked at for herself.
Tommy's correct (although there's more to the story): munchies.vice.com/en_us/article/vbqwb4/what-happened-to-the-winner-of-mcdonalds-1988-dollar1-million-flexi-disc-contest?
i'm glad i have proof this exists. i remember it so well, and yet no one believes me when i tell them mcdonalds once gave out records for a contest. i remembered that there was a dorky ditty, and then it would tell you that you lost. and here it is!
I have no idea why my brain just remembered this oddity from my childhood at 5am on Sunday morning... I just know that life was a lot more interesting before the internet. I suppose this same song could have been tied to a TV commercial, or online ad, but the thought of having to produce millions of individual records for this promotion is crazy! I did learn this song as a kid too.
Flexi discs were cheap and the way to mass distribute something like this in the pre internet days. The one I had came in the Sunday newspaper (remember those?)
Great upload! They took the concept of "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)" by the studio group Reunion and turned it into a song for McDonald's.
So this randomly popped in my head, and I said to myself, what the heck - see if it's on RUclips, and what do you know, here it is. Thank you for sharing!! #MemoryLane
I was 10 in 1988 jamin out to these beats. Memorized most of the song to which I still find myself singing today. Thanks for posting this. I was 10 for 2 mins.
Somehow this popped into my head and I figured somebody out there must have either had it or remembered it and put it online. You are that somebody, thank you LOL
I remember listening to this as a kid. My parents put it on to entertain me. I remember sitting through it and then taking it off and replacing it with Ted Nugent’s first album, or Rush, or whatever other albums my dad had laying around at the time.
I don't know how many years later, but I still have it memorized up to "Big Big Breakfast". How much important info have I forgotten because this damn song is taking up space in my brain?!?
This is the same tune as "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)", composed by Norman Dolph (lyrics) and Paul DiFranco (music), and performed by Reunion, featuring vocals by Joey Levine. It was released in September 1974.
When this came out...my older brother had a paper route. These floppy vinyls were delivered to our house in bunches for inserts. One for every paper. About 50 of them....that dude listened to them all thinking he would win. 🤣
I lied to my brother and told him that if we memorized this we could go to McDonalds and get a free meal. So we memorized it one day and my mom took us to McDonalds. She told the guy behind the counter the whole deal and he gave us a free meal after we sang it anyway!
I remember getting this out of the weekend paper and playing repeatedly on my grandparents’ hi-fi console. I would love to have a copy of it in my record collection as technically it was one of the first records that I actually played over and over when I was first getting into albums/playing with stereos.
Haha lol I bet your grandparents were like “seriously not this song again” 🤦♂️ and yes I did the same thing with some old cassette tapes I used to have. Begging mom to put it on the stereo.
My dad had a wholesale news distribution company (these were in the Sunday papers)... I probably took a few hundred of these home one Saturday. After like 10, you knew exactly where to drop the stylus. Never won anything.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!!! I remember back in the day my and my kiddie crew used hang out at grandmas house and we'd spend HOURS trying to memorize this song hahahah wow. 32 years later and I can only get through big mac, mcdlt, quarter pounder with some cheese... haha
Big Mac, Mc DLT, a Quarter-Pounder with some cheese, Filet-O-Fish, a hamburger, a cheeseburger, a Happy Meal, McNuggets, tasty golden french fries, regular and larger sizes, and salads, chef or garden or a chicken salad Oriental. Big-Big Breakfast, Egg McMuffin, hot hotcakes and sausage, maybe biscuits, bacon, egg and cheese or sausage, danish, hash browns too, and for dessert: hot apple pies, and sundaes three varieties, a soft-serve cone, three kinds of shakes, and choc’laty chip cookies, and to drink: a Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and orange drink, a Sprite and coffee, decaf, too, a lowfat milk, also an orange juice. I love McDonald’s good time, great taste, and I get this all at one place. In case you wanted to practice
Holy crap! I probably still have this in my attic, I recall was a flimsy square shaped record, you had to place a penny or a nickel on the center to make the record spin, needle wouldn't skip. After seeing this, I recall getting these type of records in certain cereals "Top 10 radio hits" I would usually end up with some unknown artist...or a B side, unknown song that never made it to radio from Corey Hart (was not the popular Sunglasses at Night tune) or some other has been.
THANK YOU!!! I just put this in my favorites. I'm 34 & for years, I've been asking/wondering if anybody remembered this. It's nice & clear. I'm a little too happy right now.
I was a paper boy in palmdale California when this came out. These were inserts in the news paper.. I had all the records from the left over papers and listened to every one of them hoping to win.
My copy of this was not treated so well, so when I tried to record it, it's very scratchy. This sounds pretty good considering it's essentially a piece of cardboard that was delivered inside a newspaper 20 years ago. Thanks for posting it.
Woooow I had this record. In fact I sampled the "I'm sorry the person listening to this record didn't win the big prize" on one of my records I put out in the late 80's. Thx for posting.
I remember this! My father probably put it on hoping he'd win that million dollars. That's the only reason I could imagine this record playing in my house.
I bought one of these at an estate sale awhile ago. Of course, it wasn't a winner... Not that it matters, since, if I were to bring the winning record into my local McDonald's, they'd probably think I was insane.
It was from 1989, though this is a different version of the record than I have. The announcements at the end are totally different from the ones I had. At first, I thought I was the one that had to memorize the song and then sing it the next time I went to McDonalds, but then I got to the end of the record and I realized it was the vocalists on the record that had to sing it right. I memorized the song anyway. Still got it down pat too, though I run out of breath by the time I got to the drinks.
Had this record for about 15 years, but without a record player to play it. Once I had a record player as a young adult I couldn't find it. I did played it once with a sewing needle connected to rolled up piece of paper and the record over a pencil. It wasn't very clear or loud, but I could make out what they were saying. I was such a smart kid.
I have this same record, but with spanish titles (not song), an aunt gave it to me, she told me they gave it to her outside a McDonalds in Alligator Park in El Paso, TX. She told me they didn't eat there, the employees were giving the records to everybody walking in front of McDonalds.
"Big Mac, McDLT, a Quarter-Pounder with some cheese, Filet-O-Fish, a hamburger, a cheeseburger, a Happy Meal. McNuggets, tasty golden french fries, regular or larger size, and salads: chef or garden, or a chicken salad oriental. Big Breakfast, Egg McMuffin, hotcakes, and sausage. When I was a kid I memorized this entire thing and amazed my friends at school, still to this day can recite it perfectly
I totally get it. To this day I still have the Burger King "Hold the pickles" and as well as the McDonald's Big Mac jingles stored in my brain taking up valuable space....At least they weren't as long as this thing.
Same!!
I'm singing it in my car right now. 😅
Me too
Congrats, your brain is successfully washed by a corporation
I remember singing this as a child . I'm 43 now. Thanks for sharing.
I remember that "record" had to put a penny on the needle because it was so warped
Me 2 lol
Same age as me. As soon as it started playing most of it came back to me like it was yesterday. We aren't old yet friend. 43 is the new 23 right? Lol
Me too! Hahaha! That’s great!
Same !!! My hubby didn’t remember anything about it so I had to find it lol
I havent heard this song in 30 years...it was such a big deal being little and playing it on my brown and tan Fisher Price record player. ...thanks for the trip down Memory lane
I used that same Fisher Price record player to play my (non-winning) McDonalds record! Those were the days.
I also listened to my non-winning record on a tab Fisher Price player.
Same hear everyone. See what I did there?
THIS. Exactly.
💓Shared Nostalgia💞

DANG IT! I SHOULD'VE TRIED IT A FEW DAYS AGO THEN!
WHAT!? I never knew that! My best friend and I learned to sing the whole song in one breath when we were kids - I WAS ROBBED!! 😫
Something tells me if I had done that they would’ve just laughed at me and then given me a small order of fries.
The contest was trash, I didn't win but I did give it to my cousin so that he could sample the end part for a hip Hop song.
bitch please
This randomly came in my head today... it’s been like 30+ years since I’ve thought of it or heard it. Thank goodness for RUclips - you can relive so many memories and get that nostalgic feeling.
I won the million dollars and spent it all on Burger King.
I would love to see a video on this record.
Andy Mojica shame, the shame
Not true lol
Really? I call bullshit. There was an actual winner of the million dollar record out of Galax, Virginia, who goes by the name of Charlene Price. She reportedly used the money to buy the convenience store she worked at for herself.

If only the Lost Media Wiki could get a hold of the winning version of this record.
Great upload! They took the concept of "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)" by the studio group Reunion and turned it into a song for McDonald's.
That Reunion song was also rewritten as a jingle for Tyson Mall in VA...
I haven't heard this in maybe 30 yrs.Sad that I remember this right when it started playing.
This record is shit food make u shit
yeah. im almost 40 now and mcdonalds commercials do not exist like they did back in the 80s and 90s.
This beat goes hard.
After listening I now have the sudden urge to buy McDonald’s
I owned the record. I still knew 1/2 the song. 30 years later. Hate eating at the place.
So this randomly popped in my head, and I said to myself, what the heck - see if it's on RUclips, and what do you know, here it is. Thank you for sharing!! #MemoryLane
They need to bring this back! lol
Markas Flood yeah, that'll be fun . Get away from all this crazyness
These days McDonald's now has a McChicken sandwich. Better hope you add that to the lyrics.
You are the G.O.A.T for uploading this!!! Like the nostalgia is on 💯 right now
I was 10 in 1988 jamin out to these beats. Memorized most of the song to which I still find myself singing today. Thanks for posting this. I was 10 for 2 mins.
had this record as a kid, and yep memorized the whole thing, still knew the first few lines
me too I just sang it for someone and then googled it, finding this video haha
I totally remember this promotion. The good old days! :)
Somehow this popped into my head and I figured somebody out there must have either had it or remembered it and put it online.
You are that somebody, thank you LOL
I just heard Savage Garden's "I Want You" and it totally reminds me of this song.
Exactly! Good one!
80s. I was 10 or 11. Still have it memorized
I remember listening to this as a kid. My parents put it on to entertain me. I remember sitting through it and then taking it off and replacing it with Ted Nugent’s first album, or Rush, or whatever other albums my dad had laying around at the time.
Baby Shark before Baby Shark
I still have a few of these tucked away. Thanks for sharing!
I don't know how many years later, but I still have it memorized up to "Big Big Breakfast". How much important info have I forgotten because this damn song is taking up space in my brain?!?
McDonald’s menu song: 9.9 TB
Important stuff: 10 KB
Brain: 0 KB of 10 TB remaining.
I still own mine. Worked in Mc Donald's all through high school. 87-90.
I remember my parents telling me I was singing this as I came out from anesthesia from oral surgery 😂
Life is a McRock, but the McRadio rolled me.
This is the same tune as "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)", composed by Norman Dolph (lyrics) and Paul DiFranco (music), and performed by Reunion, featuring vocals by Joey Levine. It was released in September 1974.

Lol i had this on my Fisher price record player!!! This was the shit in the 80s! God bless the 80s
I was in 6th grade when this came out. Thanks for bringing this back.
I just loved this commercial as a child!
GREAT nostalgic moment....Thank you VERY MUCH!!!
I lied to my brother and told him that if we memorized this we could go to McDonalds and get a free meal. So we memorized it one day and my mom took us to McDonalds. She told the guy behind the counter the whole deal and he gave us a free meal after we sang it anyway!
I should try that!
Casey Colson ml p p op L LP l
Casey Colson mo
Casey Colson OK
I think that was actually part of the promotion, but it not, you probably owe McDonalds $10... .-.
Remeber this song and remember memorizing it and listen to over and over.
I remember getting this out of the weekend paper and playing repeatedly on my grandparents’ hi-fi console. I would love to have a copy of it in my record collection as technically it was one of the first records that I actually played over and over when I was first getting into albums/playing with stereos.

Sad, I sorta wonder what the winning record sounded like.
Probably some cheesey "Congrats! You won the big prize" thing tagged on at the end
AJSSPACEPLACE I bet.
It makes me wonder if a winning record was ever made. I highly doubt it.
pollyisagoodbird That's a mystery!
The first 1/4 of this song is still an earworm to me because I kept playing the record over & over at home hoping to finally be the winner.
I memorized this whole song back in the day! Now I can only remember the first few lines 😂
This brings back a lot of memories
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS!!! I remember back in the day my and my kiddie crew used hang out at grandmas house and we'd spend HOURS trying to memorize this song hahahah wow. 32 years later and I can only get through big mac, mcdlt, quarter pounder with some cheese... haha

In case you wanted to practice
Yas, I've been looking for this song everywhere. Now I can die happy!!!
I completely forgot about this until i came across it. I remember playing this on my old fisher price record player as a kid in the 80s.
Holy crap! I probably still have this in my attic, I recall was a flimsy square shaped record, you had to place a penny or a nickel on the center to make the record spin, needle wouldn't skip. +ThatGuyInPhilly the penny thing yes!! my sisters and i with our fischer price record player haha
I think Apple Jacks did some cardboard cut out records for Halloween one year.
I leaned this when I was in 7th grade in 87-88. I still remember it.
THANK YOU!!! I just put this in my favorites. I'm 34 & for years, I've been asking/wondering if anybody remembered this. It's nice & clear. I'm a little too happy right now.
I remember this....thanks for sharing!!!
I was a paper boy in palmdale California when this came out. These were inserts in the news paper.. I had all the records from the left over papers and listened to every one of them hoping to win.
Oh jeez the subtitles, turn on captions!
I remember find this in the Sunday paper
This was amazing. Memories! Also put on the RUclips subtitles. It’s hilarious…
Sing this song in a New York McDonald’s.They gonna look at you crazy 😭😭🙏🏼
My copy of this was not treated so well, so when I tried to record it, it's very scratchy. This sounds pretty good considering it's essentially a piece of cardboard that was delivered inside a newspaper 20 years ago. Thanks for posting it.
I was SO excited when they had this promotion. Sunday paper.
Omg still can sing this
I'd really like to hear how the winning record sounded
Unfortunately the winning record seems to be lost. The guy who won it doesn't have it anymore, but he got his million bucks, alright!
this was the best , had a record player on the kitchen table and listen to it as soon as we got home LOL
Another song forever etched in my head
Woooow I had this record. In fact I sampled the "I'm sorry the person listening to this record didn't win the big prize" on one of my records I put out in the late 80's. Thx for posting.
This was from the 80's, not the 70's. I used to have this as a kid.
I still have mine. Till this day i can still do this song on cue because its locked into my memory
Ronald spitting some facts
I remember this! My father probably put it on hoping he'd win that million dollars. That's the only reason I could imagine this record playing in my house.
Hahah! My friend and I listened to so many of these! 😂❤️good times in Wallkill NY.... needless to say I wonder who did 🤔
Banger alert
I bought one of these at an estate sale awhile ago. Of course, it wasn't a winner... Not that it matters, since, if I were to bring the winning record into my local McDonald's, they'd probably think I was insane.
I remember this fondly
Somewhere there exists a copy of the winning record with the version of the song that won. That woild be so amazing to hear.
42 years young here. Remember it well😁
I so remember this song from when I was a child
I had this. Nobody I know seems to remember these.
I won multiple of everything on the menu with this giveaway. It was one of the other prizes for the contest...
I remember getting this in the Sunday paper.
I still remember this song and the lyrics !!!!
Mr._Splash_Man$ so does my mom!😂
I remember getting this record in the newspaper.
They had ONE job.
I remember getting this in the mail when i was like 7 or 8 lmao!
Boy do I feel old, I remember this....
I remember having this record 😂😂😂 I'm now 45 and I definitely remember memorizing this
Why did my brain hold on to this song for some many decades but I forget all my important passwords the moment I create them?
I have this same record, but with spanish titles (not song), an aunt gave it to me, she told me they gave it to her outside a McDonalds in Alligator Park in El Paso, TX. She told me they didn't eat there, the employees were giving the records to everybody walking in front of McDonalds.
I haven't heard this since I was a kid.I had the floppy record too lol.I'm 40 now and haven't heard this since the 80s.
Got this record in the Sunday paper. On Monday, every kid in the school was singing it!
I used to hear this when me and my friend were jumping on my bed..memories
Oh..My...God...
I still remember most of this.
I remember I could sing this song backwards, when it came out around 87-88
I remember as a kid listening to this with my father.
I had this for years, but didn't have a record player to play it on. When I finally got a record player in the early 2000s I couldn't find it. :(
"Big Mac, McDLT, a Quarter-Pounder with some cheese, Filet-O-Fish, a hamburger, a cheeseburger, a Happy Meal. McNuggets, tasty golden french fries, regular or larger size, and salads: chef or garden, or a chicken salad oriental. Big Breakfast, Egg McMuffin, hotcakes, and sausage. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had this! I was so mad when they didn't cheer at the end! LOL Knew EVERY WORD!!
I remember that these came in newspapers that I delivered as a kid. Used to sit and listen to all of them before I delivered the papers. Never won a damn thing.
At least they make the tune easy: There's only one note.
listening to this i remember the movie Supersize Me where Morgan Spurlock ate at McDonald's 3 times a day for a month and damn near died from it. i used to eat McDonald's breakfast every day before work about 12 years ago. i'd get a sausage mcmuffin with egg with hash brown and a large orange juice. and of course i'd slather the sandwich and hash brown with ketchup. good god i'm lucky i didn't die of diabetes or a heart attack. i haven't eaten mcdonald's food in years and i don't miss it.
I remember this
i love this song!!!!!!
LOL i have remembered that word for word since it came out. brings back memorys.
We didn't start the fire......
Oh my God that records square!
