- This is Guts Golden Age sword from the Golden Age Arc in the anime and manga Berserk, prior to acquiring his famous Dragonslayer sword. The sword ended up at 84"/213cm long and weighed 40.2lbs/18.2kg.

That thing is too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, it is more like a large hunk of iron

This one is more like "This sword is quite dull, it can't do a clean cut, however, It's three times thicker and heavier than a normal sword. When you get hit by it, you better hope it ends you."
What do u mean by wrong sword? This is guts golden age sword. The Dragon slayer sword comes after the golden age.
That's precisely what it was in the manga and anime, it's suppose to instill fear from a crushing blow, and be devastating enough for guts to cleave groups of people in 2, and it's a fantasy sword.

Some anime weapons are insane! One of my favourite is a steel bow from "Revengers" ep.2 around 18min in, it shoots harpoons and break the sound barrier!

What's the best steel to make a blade that big? AR600?
I use AR500 because it's less extreme to machine/grind plus it's more weldable, but yes 600 would bring up the hardness quite a bit.

What's up with every big sword being made without a tang?
It makes construction much easier and stronger this way. It would take a lot more effort to do a full tang, for no benefit

Oof, welded tang, that thing wont last 3 strikes in Guts' hands, looks sick tho.

I hope that berserk gets enough traction in the bodybuilding, and fencing, communities, that some group of buff dudes do a reenactment of the famous battles.
i just hope we’ll somehow find a super light and strong steel so that we can lift those !!!

What kind of steel did you use for this build?
The blade is AR500, the pommel is 4140, and the rest of it is 1018 (handle and guard)
@@PrettyHateMachining Interesting, so would the blade be particularly hard to chip or dull then?
Yes, it is a heat-treated alloy. Approximately 52 HRC if you are familiar. Not quite as good as a "real" sword but it's the best available for large blades like this. It is an EXTREMELY tough steel, in thicker versions it is literally bulletproof in fact (my recent Buster sword build videos proved this)
