My ass was sitting here expecting him to start attacking the deaf community. 3:30 in, I re-read the title.
I am unhinged pro-soda, I am a soda partisan, drinking two would be cutting down for me, I fight on the front lines in defense of a morning sugar-free carbonated beverage, I examine every new study about artificial sweeteners in order to protect my Lord Aspartame, etc., etc., but I will never stop laughing out loud when NL says "I don't drink that much, I only drink like two a day!"
This idea that "people are saying caffeine addiction is the same as heroin" is completely invented in his head. No one is saying this. Bro is living in his own world.
Probably just confused with sugar, which actually is that addictive
@@lime4991 it's not though, switching to aspartame takes less than 24 hours to get used to. Reducing your consumption of that is harder, but at that point it's not really a sugar addiction, is it?

He must be like Julian from Trailer park boys, where he's just always got a drink in his hand wherever he goes.
I think this is happens everywhere in a lot of society, both past and present. This mentality that you've made a decision how you live your life, but deep down you're insecure or unsure about the choice, so to validate your own choices you subconsciously want to lash out at those who have made a difference choice and still succeed. You then latch on to some "logic" to fill in the gaps.
"I'm happy after cutting caffeine out of my life, so it's impossible for you to be happy and healthy while still ingesting caffeine, so you must be some kind of addict unwilling to face reality."
It's sad to see, because it's okay for people to be different, and you can live successfully with different ideas and values while still being friendly and coexisting with one another - it's these differences that make life interesting. Life isn't a zero sum game, and you don't have to be so desperate to be correct to be happy.
I know all of this because I quit caffeine, and my mind finally feels clear like the fog of despicable stimulant has been lifted. I sleep better and I've lost 50 pounds. Get it twisted cafcucks.
Hit the nail on the head with that first paragraph, it's this self-soothing delusional mania and it's definitely something that you see in all the weird "Abstinence from x" communities. It seems to me like people get so desperate for answers that they want to fill in the first thing with even some potentially negative side effects, and then want so desperately to feel normal that they subconsciously exaggerate the true effects that whatever it is they're quitting have until they sound like evangelicals. It's like a black and white "This is causing me a few problems, this must be causing all of my problems" because it's easier to fix one thing than a hundred.
I'm just throwing around conjecture because it's fun though. I always find the Abstinence communities to be a fascinating part of the world to dissect because it's so alien to me. If I wanted to stop doing something I don't think I would want a community full of other people trying to preach to me on why I'm right or what I'm doing wrong.
Quitting caffeine can be a legitimate help for some people, but I think a lot of times people are confusing other issues for caffeine addiction. Like yeah, it can happen and it can be a problem, but it's quite unlikely it's ever your main health problem.
If Caffeine addiction was someone's main problem, then their life is going pretty well. Most people for vices, and out of all the vices you can have, caffeine should be ranked very low on the list in terms of how bad for you it is
Addiction is the wrong word, but caffeine really does affect a lot of things. When I was in high school I literally would drink like a pot of coffee a day, sometimes in the evenings. I was kinda depressed and just watched arthouse films from old DVD-rental Netflix instead of going to school haha. For health reasons I've had to switch to tea as an adult (like 15yrs later), I only occasionally have coffee but now if I get it from a coffee shop I get pretty immediate anxiety compared to tea which is much mellower (l-theanine helps, presumably). Anyone who is in a cycle of drinking more than a cup of coffee a day is likely experiencing a lot of negative effects and there's nothing wrong with forming a community to cut back if they feel they can't do it themselves. So wild that people are against self-improvement projects here.
Yeah, I went from having 3 energy drinks a day to none and the only difference I've got is I'm saving 7$ a day. People love to scapegoat all of their life's problems on one thing and then when they fix that thing and their issues don't go away, they jump onto the next thing.
@@saintsalieribecause dropping caffeine isn’t self improvement. Caffeine has no negative health effects.
@@dylanb2990 If someone experiences anxiety and lack of sleep from caffeine, both of which are documented, those are negative health effects. If you don't believe it has that impact on you, then you are lucky. But your experience is not universal. It may change as you get older.
Please continue to study, graduate high school or college, read novels and watch films to train your empathy so you can understand that sometimes people aren't idiots and actually know something you don't. We need to regulate caffeine availability for children (no more selling them 500mg energy shots or tablets, no more easily chuggable 250mg energy drinks, etc.) but NL is right, caffeine for adults isnt that big a deal for the most part.
In England caffeinated products can't be sold to people under 16, so once I got ID checked for an energy drink, I'm 27 and have a beard 😂
Where do you live where they sell 250mg energy drinks? Monsters and Rockstars in Canada at least have ~120mg, 150 absolute max which is equivalent to coffee.

Food companies have fucked with how calories are labeled.
In literally every other country, there's calories, and once you have 1000 calories you label it as kilocalories, or Kcal.
In America, 1000 calories is labeled as 1 Calorie.
Did you realize what happened there? Uppercase C.
Lowercase means 1 to 999, uppercase means 1000+.
That 390 Calorie burger is actually 390,000 calories.
And that's not even going into how the low grade makeup of fast food ingredients makes you retain a lot more of the calories than with homemade meals.
An adult's reference intake of 2000kcal, or 2000C, would translate to 2,000,000 lowercase calories, so that 390,000 calorie burger still isn't doing too much on its own. Speaking as someone from a country that uses kilocalorie measurements, everyone just calls them 'calories' all the same, anyway, since an actual calorie is too small a unit to be useful in measuring nutrition. I don't think it's an issue.
If you want some *real* uppercase/lowercase marketing sleight-of-hand, check out telecommunications companies advertising their internet speeds in megabits per second (Mbps) vs megabytes per second (MBps). A megabyte is eight times larger than a megabit, so a 12.5MBps connection speed becomes 100Mbps. People who aren't tech-savvy will naturally assume that the larger number is better.
hey man I think it's impossible to make a burger that's 390k calories. but that's just me
I quit the vice grip vaping had on me and I think it will honestly be harder to give up Diet Coke. But I also feel like it’s my birthright as a white woman to drink it.

I think the tiny grain of truth at the middle of the "caffeine addiction is as bad as alcoholism" discourse is that because caffeine is so normalized, its potential health risks, though minor, oftentimes go completely unconsidered. There are some people who use caffeine too much, and it has a negative impact on their life that often goes unexamined for way too long. The caveat here is the enormous proportion of people who use caffeine with little to no issues. The crazy redditors wanna pretend like everyone who uses caffeine is fiending for the next hit, when in reality this is like one in 2000 caffeine users at worst.
Any potential health risks come from overconsumption. If anything the studies show health benefits from light caffeine use.
