i actually produced the rapper Too Short's first album using a sony tape recorder. I then played the cassette at a recording studio , the engineer followed my instruction to turn on the dat recorder and made a master tape of it . Sent it in and came back with a Cd and an album. Cost me less than o.oo dollars . The album went gold. Good job Tangerine!
The bicycle story reminds me so much of Robert Rodriguez! Such an inspiration for people who want to make stories on video who don't have much of a budget.
How Sean Baker Shot 'Tangerine' on an iPhone and Invented a New Cinema (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO) The filmmaker shot the hilarious L.A. transgender comedy in extreme close-up, with energy, verve and a bicycle.
I'm watching this thinking, 'Wow, this interviewer sounds so familiar, sort of like Cokie Roberts, but no.. different'. I look at the name, Anne Thompson... wait THE Anne Thompson the journalist? Ah, that's why I knew your voice and style. Haha. Good interview. Fascinating.
they did such a great job with the sound & keying in music to nail the feeling we all have just watching the moments. Masterful. I'm in awe this was done on an iphone! How dare I narrow the use of mine to traveling calls & stuff I can do in a stationary position!
just saw the movie & heard that it was shot on an iphone - the cinematography & the editing were brilliant. But it was the story that was the centerpiece and really drove the movie - not the technical aspects of it. kudos to these guys.

Tangerine is a work of genius. It's like taking a journey into an alien realm that's right there in front of us everyday.
Great interview, lots to take away. Thank you!
Terrific interviewer, terrific filmmaker, great film, I wish there were more straightforward nuts and bolts interviews about filmmaking like this : )

awesome achievement, however it isn't a 'new cinema'. Lots of my cohorts have shot on iPhone. They did do an awesome job post though!.
