This is why I didn’t side with Carmen when she accused Gia of cultural appropriation. Gia has shown true appreciation for Latino culture, she’s not just wearing outfits that she thinks look pretty, she knows the cultural value and significance of those outfits. 1) Gia Gunn is Japanese not Chinese,
2) Japanese, English and Spanish are three languages from completely disparate language families, so it’s fairly impressive that she can master all three unrelated languages. Spanish and French share 75% lexical similarities and have the same basic grammar. English and French share 27% lexical similarities and 60% of english is based in Latin. So it’s not a stretch for a French person to achieve decent fluency with both languages. I would be very impressed if she learnt German or Russian, but that’s not the case.
