Wonderful!!
"Like" on 11 August 2017. Was this written before or after Haydn's 39th Symphony in G Minor?
Indeed, the same Sturm und Drang!

This Vanhal symphony (g1) was written four years after Haydn’s seminal g minor Symphony 39.
Haydn’s Symphony 39 was probably written in 1765 and pre-dated all other g minor, ‘sturm und drang’ symphonies of this type.
JC Bach’s Op 6 No 6 was published in 1770
Vanhal’s g1 was1771
Mozart’s K183 was 1773
Vanhal’s g2 (which has not been dated with authority), is possibly as late as 1774.
There were other g minor symphonies too, plus a number written in a variety of other minor keys as well.
There were g minor symphonies written earlier by composers such as Beck and Ordonez around 1760, but these did not have the wide impact of Haydn’s 39, nor are they generally considered sturm und drang works, even though they do share some nascent characteristics.
The sturm und drang phase lasted about ten years c.1765-1775 and was mainly evident in Vienna, but represented only a minority of symphonies written at the time.
Very good but no longer appreciared
