It was our great pleasure to be there when you needed an assist. Keep on trucking guys. Jenni and I look forward to following your adventure and seeing you again in the future.
You are the wonderful kind-hearted type of people that make me believe in humans! So much love to share to strangers! Such a great example of love and good karma! 💜
Awesome to see that there is still kind people out there who help out others. Even when they truly don’t know them, that was just so awesome to hear your story. Thanks for sharing, you guys are genuinely good people and it’s nice to see things work out for you. Sending positive vibes for Dave and Jenny ♥️
Wow, I'm blown away by the couple's generosity plus more trail magic by driving you both to the trail and feeding you before continuing PCT. That said, when I watched you put on the shoes at the store, I said out loud that the shoes looked snug on your feet and not the right fit. Its fantastic how happenstance worked out for you!
Kudos to David and Jenny, the world needs more people like them. Your meltdown was touching and so understandable. You are human and working so hard under difficult situation. Enjoying your videos so much along with RR's. Always a great way to start the day.
Susie, had a cry too with you this morning watching your video. It is SO demeaning when people in retail treat you that way. Lots of hugs coming your way! Keep the faith and hike on!! Don’t let one “person” ruin your adventure. 😊
They're not REI but it makes me want to shop at REI even more. Surprising that after Boujee and Roadie's vids said that people in Tahoe are hiker friendly, you'd think that store would be friendly too.
Crying and laughing with you girl! May the good ever outweigh the bad. Keep the faith and may the angels carry you ever closer to Oregon. Big hugs to you both!
Getting caught up on your videos. What a day you had. Talk about the lows of low, to amazing compassion and kindness from your trail Angel's, then a swim in a gloriously beautiful lake. Glad you ended on a high note.
Wow, an amazing true grit video today! My advice is to take a double zero soon to just chill and sleep. You are pushing yourself to hard and it is beginning to show in various ways. My goto channel at the moment, keep on sharing. Best regards from an old man living on the Southern tip of AFRICA.
It’s ok to have a meltdown everyone does it. It maybe embarrassing but you feel so good after you get it all cried out. I’m glad you both are happy with your new shoes. Have fun and stay safe.
Glad your shoe fiasco had a happy ending!! Maybe you could add a comment in FarOut about that shoe store. Warn other hikers so they don’t go through the same hassle??
How awesome are they.!!! Great people all along the journey! You had a natural reaction to negative energy. I’m glad you released it. Happy trails beautiful people. 😊
Jenny and David ❤❤ great people they really loaded you guys up…the guy back at the store probably didn’t even know about the PCT. Go on line and where them out
Sometimes you have to cry in order to not knock someone out ya know? Like you are either going to cry or he is going to cry. So thank you for being the bigger person 😉! Also to Jenny and David - wow y’all are so kind. Thank you for taking something so negative and shining like a light in the darkness! Now I am double inspired!!!
Wow!! How rude of that store. Never heard of a no refund on shoes. 🤦♂️🤦♂️😡. But on the other hand good to see there are nice people out there still to help you two out 👍❤️glad you found the sunglasses 👍
People like David and Jenny restore my faith in humanity! We all have our bad days, but people like them remind us that kindness and good deeds go a long way. ❤ HUGS!! We've all had emotional meltdowns too. Life is just that way. Lake Aloha and the Desolation Wilderness are a favorite backpacking place for us. We live near Sacramento so it's basically our backyard. I was cursing those same darn rocks on our trip last August, especially on the climb along Echo Lakes and by Heather Lake. Real ankle turners!! We did an in-and-back out trip (went as far as Gilmore). I can assure that they are no fun going downhill either 😂. But the destination is definitely worth the hike!
Awww Susie, I had a cry right along with you!! My heart went out to you. What a royal jerk. But Wow what an amazing couple to do all of that for kindness! Redeems my faith in people! God bless them!! ❤
Considering what those Altras went though with microspikes , granite , water and snow just know my Olympus Altras held up fine once through the snow and rugged section of the Sierra. I would’ve bought you new shoes in a heartbeat. 💓
After I watched your last video, I was thinking, "The store is not going to take those shoes back." I'm so glad it worked out for you! What sweet people!
Oh freaking wow. Thats the most amazing trail magic/angel experience I’ve ever heard of. Blessed for sure. I’m so sorry you have been so overwhelmed but the trail always provides and takes care of us. Amazing. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
I was tearing up right along with you, over the top kindness does that. David and Jenny rein at the top of the random acts of PCT kindness! Great job getting back in the grove of your amazing positive comedic selves.
Jenny and Dave are Gold Star Trail Angels! And reading all the comments on this post I know everyone here is a potential Trail Angel. You don't have to be living near a trail. Buy someone a sandwich, a bag of groceries, a new tee shirt, a pair of warm gloves on a cold day. Remember how you felt so good just putting on a new tee shirt? Happiness is always in the giving of happiness ❤
Aww that was so sweet of them to do that for you. Never apologize for crying, you have every right to. I was crying with you, I’m so sorry that guy was so rude to you. You guys are so awesome and I enjoy every video. Take care and happy hiking! ❤
I'm feeling teary-eyed with you. How amazing to meet such kind people...they are real angels!!! Hope the new shoes are working out! Woo-hoo for the hiker finding the glasses! Pretty views. New map...what!?! Happy trails! 👣
Awesome David and Jenny! Susie, dont be embarrased about the meltdown. It happens to everyone! You are just honest enough to share your real journey. You are both awesome and you will get to Canada!
Wow, what a lucky day. New shoes, new gaiters, a ride to the trail, free food, Birdcall found his sunglasses; or rather, some person called Goose found them...all in all, a pretty damn good day! And hey Birdcall, I see it! You're not the only one!
I feel like you should just stick with ultras … I generally replace mine every 400 ish miles and I think that’s their lifespan. - lol I wrote that before I even started watching and now I’m tearing up 😂 I’m happy you got your shoes sorted and I’m happy everything worked out. I’m from the UK and I say this all the time - peeps in the US are so kind and generous … the story’s I hear from trail and my own experiences are just wonderful! Love you guys x
You made me cry too. As much as they made your day you probably made their's as well. It's nice when you can help someone and they allow it. It's so good for the heart. (Everyone's) Wonderful to see. 😊
A good cry is therapeutic :) You two are doing amazing! Please dont let this asshat get you down. There are some good people in this world still, so right there is hope to finish the trail!
Thank gawd or the universe for that couple!! They get it!! Bless you Suzie and I'm so glad they did that for you! ❤ I pray these shoes are the best ever for you!! ❤
Such beautiful humans out there. You Guys were where you could be introduced to these angels. I hope you can stay in touch. I’m sure they instinctively knew you’d pay it forward. Great video that warmed my heart. Be safe!✌️🙂💚
"We're not REI" is exactly why people shop at REI. - David and Jenny were so sweet. If humans were all like this to each other we would live in a great world.
Yup! No doubt! I found myself needing a new pair of shoes on my hike and ended up there...because, go figure, in all of South Lake Tahoe they are the only option. And I had the same callous and indifferent experience, meaning they could not give two shits about any PCT adventure. And like you the shoes they recommended did not work out...at all.
“Every time something bad happens, something good happens. The trail provides!” Past sierra Mtn’s moving north👍👏🏽. Praying yall have great days, and when they are challenging, you stay strong (good cry is .. well good) and maybe run into a David and Jenny. And Goose🕶️God speed. 🙏🏽🥾DaJo.
You should have asked for the show stores manager. I'd also complain to their corporate office. An employee should never be rude to a customer. This guy seems like he needs an attitude adjustment. I'm a customer service director and if I had an employee who was rude to a custom they minimally would be given a final written warning and if it was severe enough they would be terminated on the spot. I've done this multiple times in my career. It is great you ran into some great people. Good luck on the remainder of your adventure.
Aw sweet girl feel the hugs for you!🤗❤️ I don’t like the way California businesses treat the hikers from the Postal to the resupply stores and also some of the camping fees 😮 but there are kind people who care about the hard thing you are doing! Bless them sweet souls 😊
5:53 Such amazing sweet trail magic!!! ❤❤❤ Wonderful angels, may God bless them 🙏. I would totally be crying after all that too. I cried often in the last 400 miles on the AT where it was hard, but you’ve already been through so much of the hard PCT stuff already. Such sweet goodness 😭. Too bad about that shoe place, we should all remember not to shop there now!
At the 12:48 mark, you can see a pretty distinct heart shape in green on the far mountain side. Although it may be something only I can see akin to Bird Call’s Tahoe rim trail visions.
So sorry that you had to go through that trouble with your shoes. That guy or for the matter the store's policy might have been valid, but everyone has the possibility to make an exception, and in your case just coming back one day later for an exchange was very reasonable and should have been granted. That guy was an absolute a.......... But now to the great side of the story, as this jerk, let's say the devil was beating down on you, God sent in 2 of his angels (trail angels), and without any hesitation stepped in and helped both of you. We hope that the store employee saw what happened and will learn from that. We too are truly grateful for your generosity David and Jenny, what beautiful individuals you both are. That is what the world needs more of.
That store should have taken those shoes back. I hope you consider sending the owner of the store an email explaining your awful experience. If that was the owner that you talked with, I would warn others to not purchase hiking shoes(or anything) from that store. You did nothing wrong.
Tip: wear new shoes indoors (preferably on carpet ),you'll feel hot spots after a while . Even Amazon doesn't accept returns/exchanges with shoes worn outdoors.
Unfortunately the retailer would be out the money. The business cannot ethically resell a shoe to the next customer saying they are new when they have been worn. The retailer cannot burden the expense every time a customer is unhappy with their purchase. The employee should not have been rude but rather educate the consumer as to why they cannot return or exchange. An exchange in that situation is the exact same as a return. I own a small retail business and the $100 return hurts sometimes when you only sell $300 in a day. Especially if the product comes back work and not new in box.
Kudos to the trail angels that bought you new shoes and shuttled you. Over and above in generosity ! Looking at your original shoe choice, I wonder if your decision was tainted by the fact that Roadrunner wears the Salomons and they work for her and last longer. So in your mind you made a decision based on that, not what was right for you. I say this because my husband chose to buy Altras because I loved mine. However he has very narrow feet and they were a sloppy fit. He kept tripping because of it. Lesson learned, don't buy a shoe just because it works for someone else.
That was so nice of them. Heads up im a hiker up here in central oregon. If you have darn tuff socks with holes dont take them to REI in Bend. Go to Mnt Supply hassle free swap. Rei only swaps if under a year purchases.
Totally sympathize with the situation where $160 is a lot of money and you need shoes for your hike. But you need to have empathy for the store too, where they'd have to sell a used product as new. Being aware of return policies is part of adulting. I encourage everyone to pay the generosity forward. If you're at a store and one product is a return with opened packaging or slightly used and just wiped down really well with a wet wipe, buy that one. If some produce doesn't look the prettiest, take that one.
I switched from Altra's to Topo's 2 years ago and they just work better for me. Hope they do ya well. I just don't understand how so many shoes have such narrow toe boxes.
I Love watching your videos!!! I hate the PCT in 2015 and this brings back so many memories! I look forward to your videos when I come back from my office job in the evening. Keep on keeping on you guys! I would love to send you some trail magic. Let me know how I can do that. Mamagoose
Topos - great choice! Hope they work well for you! I love mine! You two are really fun to follow....one of my top two this year! Bird Call's paintings are amazing, and Boss Babe you have the gift of telling stories. I'm looking forward to the rest of your journey! And, I'd love to buy a painting! Happy Trails. Oh, and if you need a ride or something when you come through Cascade Locks, I'd love to help1 I'll email my contact info.
Thank you so much! I received your email, we are so looking forward to Cascade Locks! We appreciate your support! Check out our website we just added a page for our PCT book. riedelgallery.com/pacific-crest-trail-book
What kind of shoes did you get? I used to love Salomons but wasn’t sure about backpacking with them. I did 400 miles on the pct this spring and rocked Topo pair. I have bunions so did have a blowout around 350 miles. Topo actually sent me a new pair. I really liked the toe box and more support in heel (versus altra)! Thsnks for keeping it real guys! It’s ok to have a tough day. Glad it turned around. ❤
Not a dry eye in the house here! Not surprised they wouldn't take your shoes back as it wouldn't happen here in the UK if they look in anyway as if they have been worn outside. Difficult to try them out inside for long when you are camping. However it must happen all the time to people trekking. However you met David and Jenny who sound like true angels. 👩❤👨
Aww...so sorry they didn’t replace the shoes but thank goodness for the wonderful couple that felt your frustration. Happy you have new shoes🤗. Keep up the positivity! May I ask why you haven’t gotten a new cap (like Birdcall)? The visor portion is terribly shredded🤦♀️.
We are not REI, lol what a jerk thing to say. I know that outdoor store and they are uptight and have Tahoe pricing. The universe has balance, blessings to those kind folks who stepped in and bought the new shoes.
Hiking/backpacking/thru hiking is hard enough, so when a store is not going to accept back shoes that were likely worn for only an hour and you have clear proof of purchase adds unnecessary difficulty (unnecessary bc the store made it more difficult than it needed to be) on top of everything else, it DOES get overwhelming. I have been there 100%.
Some people are rude and not helpful and others are amazing. I think I would have gotten angry at that guy. Obviously he was not a hiker. There are wonderful people on the trail😊
It was our great pleasure to be there when you needed an assist. Keep on trucking guys. Jenni and I look forward to following your adventure and seeing you again in the future.
You are both amazing humans! There ought to be more like you both. 🙏🏻
❤
You are the wonderful kind-hearted type of people that make me believe in humans! So much love to share to strangers! Such a great example of love and good karma!

🥰
Thank you for helping Susie and Bobby! You are wonderful people. ❤️ 😊
Yay for David and Jenny!!! People like that restore my faith in humanity!!!
David and Jenny rock! What wonderful blessings they provided; true trail angels❤
David and Jenny are true trail angel hall of famers.
Awesome to see that there is still kind people out there who help out others. Even when they truly don’t know them, that was just so awesome to hear your story. Right on, David and Jenny! What a beautiful display of human kindness! 🤎

No worries love!!! So glad that there were people who were there to bless you!!!!! You showed your humility and how patient you are!!
Same!! 🥰🥰🥰
ahhh, True Trail Angles. The stories of kindness on the trail and in trail towns help restore our faith in the world.
Oh How SWEET!!!! It just made me CRY!!!! Beautiful Hearts!!
What an amazing story
As a woman, crying is one of our superpowers!! Use it wisely, or not!
A beautiful story of the kind hearts of David and Jenny helping you out. Beautiful swimming lake. Enjoy those tasty meals. Hike~~On~~>
Awww Susie, I had a cry right along with you!! My heart went out to you. What a royal jerk. But Wow what an amazing couple to do all of that for kindness! Redeems my faith in people! God bless them!! ❤

Yes I cried too. Wonderful people. You two are so deserving of the very best. Your goal is definitely possible. Life changing even. 😊
Shout out to David and Jenny awesome trail Angels! Congratulations on 1100 miles that’s amazing.
Jenny and Dave are Gold Star Trail Angels! And reading all the comments on this post I know everyone here is a potential Trail Angel. You don't have to be living near a trail. 🥲 thank you for your kind words!! ❤️
It will all be one of your best memories 30 years from now!
Omg! Such a great trail angel shoe story! I was crying too! So proud of you guys…. So much emotional strength and guts! We’ll be watching!
I'm feeling teary-eyed with you. How amazing to meet such kind people...they are real angels!!! Hope the new shoes are working out! Woo-hoo for the hiker finding the glasses! Pretty views. New map...what!?! Happy trails! 👣
"The Trail provides" Truer words never spoken. Proud!
I have melt downs at least every other month or so and I have the comfort of AC and my own bed.
Awesome David and Jenny! Susie, dont be embarrased about the meltdown. It happens to everyone! You are just honest enough to share your real journey. You are both awesome and you will get to Canada!
Thank you 🫶🫶🫶 I appreciate you!

You made me cry too. As much as they made your day you probably made their's as well. It's nice when you can help someone and they allow it. It's so good for the heart. (Everyone's) Wonderful to see. 😊
Ultimately I blame Altra :) Way to receive and recover BB 😘 Thank you Jenny and David for showing how humaning is done!!
True trail angels ❤ so glad the new shoes are working out for the both of you, you guys are rockin' it.
Don’t be embarrassed. We all have those moments. There are still good people in this world. Happy hiking
Love you two. Hike on!
Thank you for sharing the tough moments. People are great when given the opportunity. Keep on rolling.
Sending you hugs, I appreciate that you shared that trail life is real.
What a wonderful redemption of human kindness and generosity from that rude salesperson. You may not have met this couple otherwise ....😊

Maybe Bird Call can paint the trail angels a beautiful work of art as a thank you?
@@umreeh actually we’re hoping to commission some work. No need to repay us. The joy we got from helping was more than enough payment.

@@TravelWritePaint pre-ordered a painting! EXCITED, and excited to meet you guys!
You made me cry this morning. Well, LT Sports or whatever it's called, does not get my business ever.
Thank you! 🤗
We are not REI, lol what a jerk thing to say. I know that outdoor store and they are uptight and have Tahoe pricing. The universe has balance, blessings to those kind folks who stepped in and bought the new shoes.
Shows that there are some very good people around. They don't happen to work at (or own) that outfitter's store though.
Yes indeed 🥰
Hiking/backpacking/thru hiking is hard enough, so when a store is not going to accept back shoes that were likely worn for only an hour and you have clear proof of purchase adds unnecessary difficulty (unnecessary bc the store made it more difficult than it needed to be) on top of everything else, it DOES get overwhelming. I have been there 100%.
what brand is your olive hoodie - love it - where did you get it?
I love this hoodie!! It is REI brand, sun hoodie. The olive color was the men’s.
Some people are rude and not helpful and others are amazing. I think I would have gotten angry at that guy. Obviously he was not a hiker. There are wonderful people on the trail😊
Thank you 🥰
