Cisco Default Hold Music - [HQ Mono Audio] - Opus Number 1
HTML-код

- And now you can stay on hold for eternity.. in high definition!
This is a mono version of the Opus Number 1 track, I find the stereo audio of the default just hurts your ears, so for those who want the true call-centre feel with a higher bit-rate, look no further!
This track is not owned by me, it was produced by Tim Carleton and Darrick Deel and I presume owned by Cisco.

Never heard it sounding so good, usually it's all crackly and constantly interrupted with "your call is important to us" 😂
The bandwidth on a phone line is only 24kbps - apparently that’s more than enough for good quality human voice, That’s why music sounds crappy on phone lines and apps that are meant for meetings.
Right😂
Whoever decided to pick this as the default hold music was a genius. I’m not even mad when I’m on hold. This shit slaps.
I believe that would be Mr. Deel who picked the music. Mr. Carleton is the actual composer. 😊
I sometimes get disappointed when they come back and interrupt the music. Lol

Yes! Donkey Kong Country on the SNES
There’s no reason why Cisco had to go this hard on making a hold tone.. 😂 it’s a banger for sure
😂😂😂😂
They didn't. One dude who worked for Cisco in the beginning banged this out on his keyboard one night bc they needed a man on hold song that wasn't copyrighted.
This sounds like the track to a 90s videogame, not soulless corporate hold music. Hella good.
Agreed, heavily reminds me of Donkey Kong Country's OST haha
The song is the feeling of waking up from anesthesia

This hold music sounds like what nostalgia would sound like
this right here 💯
So true my God,, I’m all in the 90s right now
@@BlankBTE Enya commercials... Muzzy... Spice Girls, Titanic, Skip-Bop.... 😄
It's literally nostalgia in my case. I worked 5 years at Aviva in my early twenties. This just puts a smile on my face hearing it. Also, pleasant music!
FYI - Those two guys should get paid for this. They created it as teenagers in the late 80’s and like most young and naive musicians, they weren’t ever given a dime for their work. Great work you two!!!
It's funny though, now that it's been used globally there's a subset of people who laud it as a great work of art, but it was only used because it was free. So there was no realistic way they could be paid for this, because Cisco would just switch to some other royalty free music.

@@tvhist Great! I'm glad it got added. Thanks for the heads up
They did get paid for it. Two guys made it in high school and then one went on to work for Cisco. He worked on this project and they let him use this song. They’ve made 4-5m I think over the years
This is the only hold music that doesn't make me overtly angry. Infact it has the opposite effect. Calms me down. And yes I deliberately searched this
BANGER OF A SUPERBOWL AD. THIS TUNE BEEN GOING IN FOR YEARS AND PEOPLE JUST CATCHING ON.
Yeah... sorry about that. The reason was that I used an Alesis Midiverb II or III, specifically the 3 tap pan, to hide the fact that I was playing this live on a DX7IIFD and the notes would either cut off when I'd play unison patches and run out of polyphony or when I'd change patches. Solution: Plug it in mono to the midiverb on one side, R8 on the other side, stereo into the tascam, and go.
Edit: despite what it says on WIKIPEDIA I don’t think the stereo version sounds bad, I’m simply explaining the extreme panning.😂
Tim, it's honestly a privilege that you've watched my video, let alone comment on it. Thankyou for this epic tune, I listen to it every day at work 😁✌️
Thanks for this brilliant piece of music! I‘m an 80s child and I love all kind of synths from that decade ... 😉
Thanks for this piece dude. It's made being on hold much more pleasant for me many times. :)
Wow, you wrote this?
What do you mean you're sorry about making this masterpiece?
Cisco deadass did NOT need to go this hard on default hold music, but they did! Full stop!
There is an episode of the podcast This American Life that talks about this song. I recommend it. I think the episode is called Stuck in the Middle and it's act two or three that they talk about it

The deep lore on this song is amazing.
"Among the best known due to its default presence on Cisco telephones is "Opus Number One" by Tim Carleton and high-school friend Darrick Deel, who recorded it on a four-track tape recorder in 1989. Deel went on to work for Cisco in building the company's first VoIP phone. When a need for default on hold music came up, he recalled the track he and Carleton had recorded and reached out to Carleton for approval."

I'm an Indian guy, I couldn't go to college after school, had to work in a call center after turning 18, mostly just spending all night with tired, disappointed, rude people from other side of the planet. My work was not business to customers, general public in the west are one of the friendliest people. Business people were a little difficult but now 10 years later, I regret nothing. This music used to make me sad sometimes, but now I fondly remember those times.
Fun fact: this was created in a tiny garage in, 1989!
Everyone's saying it gives them 90's vibes but it immediately took me to the 80's
@Oliva Gina most things released in 1990 were still written and recorded in the 80's. It's the same with any decade.
The guy who made it is in here in the comments!
definitely can tell by the synths!
Def 80s lbs the original track has the static to match
I genuinely enjoy being put on hold at work thanks to this song. It always calms my nerves and sends me into an 80s daydream.

Imagine, no music in the world is more associated with anxiety. You NEVER listen to it while having a good time. It's always before a call that you HAVE to do.
And yet it makes you feel a bit better in your time of anxiety.
Thankfully I haven't had to call them in a long time, but the hold music for Florida Child Support is the most depressing music ever. I can't even explain it. It makes you feel absolutely destitute and defeated. This is infinitely more enjoyable lol
@@jeremyscout3464 LOL that'd be like calling the suicide hotline and the hold music is Don't Fear the Reaper, complete with excessive cowbell.
People keep saying this music is a bop, but if you have to hear it through the cruddy phone audio, it sounds like Jason Voorhees going to the club.
The mental image I have when I hear this music is me in a house during a blackout peaking through my window on a full moons night only to see Jason in my backyard hitting the Dougie.
Wrong, that would be the various iPhone alarm tones.
I dunno. Everyone likes it because it's so upbeat and whatever, but it brings back memories for me. I listened to this same on hold music for a total of 3 months, or 118 days multiple times during the day. Morning, Noon, evening, and Night. This was the hold music I heard every single day to call to check in on my baby when he was in the NICU. It was a very hard time for me as I was suffering from postpartum depression. This on hold music brings back sad memories for me.
Came here for the exact same reasons. Just called a different hospital 14 years later and this played... Triggered... 😢
I actually use this for training my little ones to sit still. They have to sit quietly as long as this is playing. They actually like it.😂
I do too! It works! No matter where they are in the house, when they hear it, they run to the couch and sit down.😂

Legitimately the soundtrack to my life. I hear this on an almost daily basis working in Motor Insurance and have been in the business many many years now. In a very strange way it is kind of a special piece of music to me for that reason but also has a kind of unnerving dreamlike edge to it (with those synths) like you are in limbo. I want it played when the curtains close at the crematorium.
Insurance Underwriter here, same! I hear this all day long and never get tired of it.
It’s kind of special to me too! I used to work for an American telephone company when I was in university, and this was the hold music for interdepartmental calls. I loved calling legal because they would never pick up the phone and would keep you vibing to this. My life then was so different, not better, but simpler.
Its 1am and I've finally found the jam for my year. Holding music. Why not.
1 year later, it’s 12 AM and I found this new banger.
Hell yeah!!!
This sounds like it should be the music for an ice level in Donkey Kong Country.
Honestly, I get that it’s hold music, but I’ve literally been fascinated by this song to the point where I had to teach myself how to play it on the piano. It just taps into this indescribable nostalgia that just so perfectly encapsulates the early to mid 1990s in a strange way
I remember one time my school accidentally put all the announcement speakers on hold and this’song was playing on all the speakers across the whole school it was madness XD
Me too!
This tune is so nostalgic that takes you back to 90s. Bless that person who created this and hope Cisco never changes this.
I wasn’t even alive in the 90s and this is literally so nostalgic of windows 95 and existing and watching dirty dancing with my mother while eating all the 3d Doritos and drinking surge while simultaneously being wired on the school playground and trying to collect all the hit clips in 2003.
Finally tracked this down on Apple Music and set it to loop. My god...my brain has NEVER been so freaking happy!!!!!

Feeling that PTSD from being bounced back and forth between pharmacies and doctors for hours, very cool. All it needs now is to sound like it's coming out of a haunted phonograph.
I can relate, lol. This is the music the pharmacy at my outpatient rehab played. It’s nostalgic to listen to now, with a decade clean
Yeah it's better in mono imo. Some people are saying the sampling rate should be reduced to match the low sampling rate of PSTN, but I disagree.
i like hq version better
@@boiii3productions945 That's a perfectly valid opinion. You could argue that the artists created it in stereo 44khz, therefore we should preserve the original artistic intent by listening to it in that format. However the creators also knew that their audience will be listening to it over PSTN mono 8khz. OP's version appears to be mono 44khz.
