PHOM MONYIÜ CUM CULTURAL DAY 2024 | YACHEM

The celebration of Phom Monyiü is one of the biggest Traditional festival of Phom/Naga Tribe from 1st - 6th April every year. This is a spring festival normally observed after the sowing is done in paddy fields. It is also a time to invoke God's blessings to have a bountiful harvest. During this festival, a great love and concern is being shared with relatives, friends and members of the community by exchanging gifts, meat and various food items. Different functions and programs are being organized in order to preserve the authentic customary practices and traditional folk songs and dances. In this way, Monyiü festival has a great impact in the lives of Phom people and is celebrated with immense significance.
On 4th April 2024, this program was observed with the theme “Upholding One’s Culture in a Diverse Society” organized by Yachem Village Council and Yachem Students' Union at YSU Langto Park.
The day was observed to celebrate Phom Monyiü Festival and to enrich as well as preserve the culture and traditions for the generation by displaying vibrant Folk Dances and Songs, which are sang in different tunes and occasions. The event was a blessed one.
