Thank you guys, y’all were a piece to the puzzle that captured my sonic palate early on. I was an 8th grade junior high school/middle school student in a catholic school in Jakarta, Indonesia, when this song came up. I remember taking this song to my friends and tellin them we should dance to this for a school event, shaking my booty and all. They thought i was crazy at first, but coming out of that school we ended up not only forming a dance team but also winning dance championships in the region, using a lot of dancehall and hiphop music.
18:25 Definitely have to agree that this video made this song such a big deal when I was in high school because we really did have a representation of what we were doing literally every Saturday and Friday night and it just felt like we were validated in that moment so big big shout out to Sean Paul for having the vision and understanding his whole team for really helping solidify Caribbean people in cold climates lol
Big Up Lenky! Man is fire on the production.. Gave me chills seing that breakdown. Super talented. Also big up X and the Mad Skillz dance crew that made the "Get Busy" video go viral.
I met Sean Paul at my hotel tonight! I was working there and only said hello in my professional voice which he replied back to me! I grew up with his songs that where always outrageous and amazing. He made my childhood great and introduced the sounds of Jamaica and Reggaeton to an African and Swedish mixed kid that never belong. Finally I could relate to something!!! Such an humble guy! I love this documentary and I love that it gives me so much more insight to who he is a person but also artist. TRUE LEGEND ❤
The nostalgia and realism of the song and video is amazing. At the time when the video came out, living in the GTA, this is exactly what was going on! And now, 20+ years later, the treat of listening to the song and watching the video takes me right back to those moments! Amazing! You made my week for this one VICE, thank you!
@Foreign Link It was Caribbeans in Canada that created the scene here. Just landed immigrants and 1st gen. It's the Carribeans and Jamaicans who took the jams from Jamaica and created the basement dancehall parties. Yall don't have basements
Sean Paul’s story is so unique. Definitely one of my favorite artist. I love how sometimes he sounds like himself sometimes he sounds like Super Kat, shaggy etc. he really is a great talent. And the history of the Diwali Rodin and how many songs came from it is so cool.
I'll always remember the summer this came out, I was in Toronto in spring 2003 and summer 2003 and I remember this was always on non-stop on the radio everywhere and every mall or food court, the energy this song brought to that summer was unforgettable, the heatwave along with this song in all the sweaty clubs was a scene that won't be repeated anytime soon. Sean Paul is timeless, a true artist
Always loved his music as a teen and tween. Still do. But watching this and realising what an down to earth, honest and nice human he still is… wow. WOW! He sure deserves all this.
This was a great glimpse inside one of the songs that really put the whole Caribbean on the map outside of the West Indies. It did and still does the whole W.I. proud knowing that one of our own dominated the charts with a sound and vibe that just wasn't "it" or common in the Western world until it came out...and then helped revolutionize the sound from then on.
this song is something special, whenever you hear it you HAVE to start moving. its honestly a song i will never get tired of hearing, the beat the and the flow of Sean is just crazy. thank you so much Sean Paul for this amazing song and all the people who helped you create it and bring it to life.

Thank you guys, y’all were a piece to the puzzle that captured my sonic palate early on. Wouldn’t be the musician I am without being exposed to the different Melodie’s and pockets that all these guys pioneered 🤝
Yes, I think the same about their music
History made! Sean Paul and his team are musical geniuses. ❤️❤️❤️
Totally agrees +44
Get Busy, Temperature and We Be Burning are my go tos nearly 20 years later they are still rent free in my head, and setting my hips free no matter where I am when they play. On my playlists, on the radio in the car or even in public. Heaven help someone if they change the station if they're playing...
Director X made an iconic video for Get Busy. I grew up in Boston around dancehall culture and going to those winter house parties and I just remember seeing the video before school on MTV like this is really what we do lol
👆👆🍄🍄💯
I recommend microdosing mushrooms, it has really helped me on anxiety , panic attack, bipolar disorder, insomnia , depression PTSD and ADHD schizophrenia.......
C.S.L 🤔
that's awesome, can't imagine how your school reacted
This was a trip. I love how vice just let his voice run this instead of any forced storylines. So well done
I can still listen to Dutty Rock all the way through no skips.
Most proud of what Sean Paul has done for the Caribbean diaspora as a whole much love from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
Sean Paul and his story and his families and everyone still resonates to this day. Big shout out to everyone who loves this song forever!
It was little X's vision from growing up in Toronto
Big Up Lenky! Man is fire on the production.. Gave me chills seing that breakdown. Super talented. Also big up X and the Mad Skillz dance crew that made the "Get Busy" video go viral.
wasnt lenky in the beginning of the shottas movie
Damn, 20+ year, im not a kid any more...
Who else feels really old that this was twenty years ago? I can smell the Island Foods packed during Caribana when I see the video.
The basement jam era in Toronto and New York was a realllll thing. Kids today will never know ❤ 😂 love this vice
The basement jams of that era were different! Trust me, they don't do them the same anymore. They don't know
@Foreign Link It was Caribbeans in Canada that created the scene here.
Continue making Jamaica proud, Sean! 🇯🇲🇯🇲🙏🏾😎🐊🌴
2003 was a great year for music everywhere
I remember hearing the hook for the first time and that “spooky” voice was like nothing I’ve ever heard before. Really nice to hear the story!
I absolutely love Sean Paul. I have such a soft spot for him. I saw him last year in Boston and he is just the epitome of fun and good vibes.
I dooo too! I am so jealous u met himmm 😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@issafula she didn’t meet him duhhhhh 😂 she saw him at a show 😂😂😂
@@JamesWilliams-jf3hd LOOOOL! I already understood that!
Lanky is a genius ❤️
Big up Jamaican Music, music that always gets you moving.
I love this series at one time Sean Paul was a feature on every big artists songs. His song Baby Boy with Beyoncé is still a banger too.
Baby Boy had some controversy behind the scenes, which might have had something to do with Jay Z.
My favorite riddim of the 2000s! Sean Paul, Wanye Wonder and Elephant man snapped on that beat!
Sean Paul had us inna chokehold in the early 00"s. He deserves so much more recognition for the doors he opened
To this day nothing really sounds like this. Every part of the production is very unique in their own way and put together it makes something special
As a Kenyan Sean Paul was huge....he is the soundtrack to my teens and 20s...much love
Always loved his music as a teen and tween. Still do. But watching this and realising what an down to earth, honest and nice human he still is… wow. WOW! He sure deserves all this.
Gimme Di Light was MASSIVE. I'm glad a Mixed-Race artist represented so hard for & was so respected in Dancehall culture & around the world.
Most people In the Caribbean are mixed with something
Wasn’t bob mixed to tho
Sean Paul ran the world in the early 2000s. Made my childhood.
Preach lol
When I was a kid I literally had my Dad put Get Busy on repeat in the car wherever we went. Best Vice video in awhile. Have me goosebumps
I rinsed that Diwali CD when it came out. Every song was a hit. Still one of my fave riddim 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Dutty Rock also got played to death
🔥 yep 🔥
There's a stretch of amazing times in my life that Sean Paul was the soundtrack to. Such good music.
That is so relatable, at 16 I got my first car, and the first thing I did was put on Dutty rock CD and blasted all these songs
So underrated this man made the best high school party music
Typing from Kenya 🇰🇪 and I am really sure my fellow Kenyans loved the song as much as I did
