There are two different aproaches to exporting your animation from OpenToonz:
1. Fast Render MP4 - this requires you to install the video encoder ffmpeg and point OpenToonz to the location of it.
2. the professional workflow of exporting an image sequence and assembling it in a compositing or video editing software.
To demonstrate the professional exporting workflow in DaVinci Resolve, we will import the image sequence in DaVinci Resolve

I have a slight problem tho, When I do the first method, i do get the message Rendering frame into mp4, but when o go into the folder, ther's nothing.. Same when i save it on my desktop

Hi thanks for your lessons you give great information. I am having trouble in a few areas. when i drop the images into the timeline in 'edit' mode, it doesnt recognise it as a video but inserts all the frame just like the first timeline. also ffmpeg is downloaded on my computer buut it is not recognised in open toonz i havce tried everything including deleteing and redownloading many times. what do i do ? has the software updated and now your video no longer works?

Please help me, I'm trying to save a project but no matter if I pick ''save all'', or ''save scene'', when I open the file again, only the first level appears and if I drew something on the other levels, all of those drawings will appear n that only that appears when I open the file I previously saved... do you know what's wrong and how to fix it?... thanks in advance
Great tutorial. But your ffmpeg link doesn't work. I found it on my own but there is another problem. When I use the fast render to MP4, once it gets to the "precomputing xxx frames" phase, OPEN TOONZ crashes. Is there anywhere I can go to resolve this issue?

hellohello, time efficient question- what do you do if there is no version number???? all of it just says “4.4-latest”
i have it in my c drive but its not showing in open toonz ive tried restarting and some other stuff no luck
ive been trying to export my animations as avi and they always get corrupted and i don't have a good editing software to combine all the clips
its not saving as a file for me but a internet explorer link-ish? i have windows ten,i have no idea how files work but i know im not doing something right
I cant find my render on the desktop. Do you mean that it appears like On the desktop. Like homepage of windows, or do you mean the File Explorer kind?

I currently updated my opentoonz 1.6 to 1.7 version and the ffmpeg is no longer visible. I trashed the file and restarted this process by downloading ffmeg for mac, unzipped the ffmpeg file, moved it to a location and then opened opentoonz to set preferences. opentoonz does not see the ffmpeg in any location that i set it. any ideas? Thank you
Hi, thanks for the video! I'm having trouble getting my rendered animation into DaVinci. I'm on the edit window in DaVinci and have done all my settings as you showed. I downloaded the render with pixel settings at 1920x1080 as a png, but anytime I try and drag the files onto the timeline, it doesn't recognize it as one film and still has all of the photos individually, and the photos all show up black. I'm working on a Mac, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you ever get an answer on this? I am having the same issue. Getting individual pngs not 'one film'. Any solution?

3:26 it says "Win 10 Sys (C:)" under "Videos" instead of "Local Disk (C:)" under "Videos". Is it ok if I just click "Win 10 Sys (C:)" instead?

Glad to hear it, and good luck with the animating! Remember it may feel difficult at first, but keep at it and before you know it you'll have a lot of fun giving characters life and making things move across the screen. :)

when I try to select a path for the first method there is no bin option. can anyone please help with this?
I had the same problem. Except there was a bin option in my folder when i opened it outside of OpenToonz. So what i did was just write \bin at the end of the FFmpeg path and it worked. Hope this helps :)

I don't understand.. when i'm importing those .png file images into the davinci resolve. Even if i change it to edit mode, its still became an image file not a single video. What seems to be the problem?
Apparently they changed some things. The media page should now import a batch of numbered images as one sequence if you drag them in all at once.

Did you do the steps described at 3:43? Make sure to navigate to the folder in which the exe files are located. And you have to restart OpenToonz afterwards.
I downloaded the same ffmpeg file as you, and moved it to the same file as you, but when I try to tell opentoonz where it is, it dosen't show up. Why is this happening?
I got the same thing, but idk what's going on. I'd just try the longer method.

is there any alternate to FFmpeg? Every time I go to their website it times out for me. I could use Davinci but I much rather quickly turn my projects into mp4s

Tahoma2D comes with ffmpeg bundled in (so no download necessary) but currently seems to be slightly behind the OpenToonz 1.6 release branch.

tried to get ffmpeg on my mac....it didn't happen as you showed for windows and opentoonz didn't accept it. Humph, as they say in cartoons ;)
When I exported the video up to 99%, the box displayed "Not corresponding" :((( How can I solve this problem??
Maybe try exporting the same scene in Tahoma2D? You don't need to install ffmpeg as Tahoma comes with it. There are some issues about render crashes on github like this one: github.com/opentoonz/opentoonz/issues/3179
For me it still turned out to be multiple images instead of the one file when I dragged and dropped.

Any version should work as long as you pick the right one for your operating system.
Pity it renders but all columns are being exported into a maze of mp4s, I expected 1 mp4 not hundreds of them
I clicked on "edit" and it's still dumping the individual files the same way as seen in 12:15.

Its a custom thing, for rendering to mp4, no need to have it to render image sequences

i tried this and it deleted my whole animation and file -_-
Hmm... This shouldn't delete any files... It's just that if OpenToonz crashes before you save (and sadly that can happen) all unsaved progress is gone. Have you checked in the sandbox project's scene or drawing folder? If auto save was switched on, your files are still there and can be opened or imported.

Why can't OpenToonz itself render the project as a video? It's tempting to get upset everytime there's an extra step, but I know there's always a reason.
Check out Tahoma2D which is a fork of OpenToonz that comes bundled with ffmpeg. The reason why it's not included in the official main branch might be a licensing thing. Open source licenses can be tricky... and so is video encoding, a huge challenge on it's own, so that's why ffmpeg is its own project.
