It all depends on what size you’re making your project. The length it straight forward, as for the rope needed for the colour your adding, I mentioned it in the video more precisely but I roughly I use 5 times the length of the row I want to make the coloured stripe. And if you use thick rope, more, if you’re working with thinner ropes, a little less!
sort of, BUT I think a diagonal clove hitch knot is what you're looking for. I made full tutorial on that exact knot, all of my tis and trick and even how to make perfect rows of it, I believe it was 2 videos ago, right after the cactus tutorial! I hope it helps,:)

Would this same knot make sense if you were also moving diagonally while adding a color, just moving it down between each cord?
