My 4yr old Monrovia Bonsai Blue Jacaranda is seeding this year for the first time!! I'm here to learn how to pass them on. I absolutely love these trees!
I just had someone send me some seed pods from trees in their California yard to Florida so I'm going to try both methods. You should totally do an updated video, its been a couple months since you made this video, would love to see how much if they've grown!
**update** I tried both methods, I had success from both, though the paper towel ones have thinner stems and are not growing as much, but they all have first leaves.
@@yorkiem0m Thanks for the update, it's fun to know that this info is helping people on the other side of the planet. recorded a short update video about a month ago but never got round to posting it. If this audio is any good I will pop it up.
@@vaidehilokare8897 you maybe could, but there are so many seeds inside and I wanted to start several plants. If they germinated like that you just end up killing them because I don't think you'd grow like 20 of them together.(I didn't count the seeds but they are very tiny and clumped together)
What a legend 👏 I love this tree ❤ ive got myself a seed pod attched to a soft wood cutting and the pod is still green. Any advice or ideas? Cheers bud
so if you'd opened the paper towel seeds a bit earlier the roots would be shorter and easier to get into the trays? any advantage/disadvantage to that?
@@hudsonquay Yes! I grew 8 of them They grew to about 1 ft tall. I kept them inside and now we are in autumn/winter they are all almost dead :( Pretty gutted about that
I bought some seeds and the instructions said to plant the seeds on top of the soil and then to let them germinate with lots of light. Everywhere i look i see different methods. its been almost 3 weeks and nothing yet. I havent given up on them but I have some spare seeds, so imma try a different methode About the ones in the towel. I heard you say something like "i put it on top of my cabin" is it better to put them in a spot with lots of light of better in the dark?
Hey mate I'm not a pro on these so merely showed you what worked best in this example. The bag method is the most consistent that I have used. They did get light at times throughout the day. If you live I'm Brisbane, Australia. I have 2 trays of germinated ones looking for a home if needed.

I have two jacaranda trees I grew from seeds in a pot. They each are about 12 inches tall. They look extremely healthy. Can I keep these trees potted and will they stay relatively small? Thank you. Nice video.
Have never kept them in pots to give you a realistic guide. I do know pruning them results in vertical shoots along branches which may impact the aesthetic of the plant. They are best not pruned
@@dibbleandseed this is a great idea actually. I donated sunflower seeds to some classes last year and they all planted them out. Jacaranda seeds are next lol
thank you for the video - greetings all the way from Pakistan - Karachi i have one question, my seedlings are in paper towel now, the stems are thinner and fragile, am kind of hesitant to transfer them in soil - because one of the seedling already got damaged after going in soil :/ - How much time is good enough for seedlings to stay in paper towel? should there be any specific kind of soil? or compost for proper humidity?
The seedlings are surviving off the initial energy available in the seed. If they are not provided with a source of light and nutrients they will not thrive. If they appear weak pot them up into controlled conditions with less harsh variations in temp or moisture levels. Eg Keep the soil moist, pop them in seed raising mix, leave them on a window sill inside so they won't bake.
thanks for the reply :) how much time does it take for the seeds to germinate in soil? because paper towel method was quick - its been more than 2 weeks now and i can't see the seeds sprouting from soil
@@dibbleandseed hello again, one of the seedlings survived fortunately, how much time will it take to grow true leaves? so that i keep it in the direct sunlight
2 just increases the likelihood a cell will produce a seedling. If there is no shortage of seeds go with 2 in each. If you have a limited supply and enough tray space one in each is sufficient.
I did some research to clarify your point. 20 years is to reach full size or full maturity. Seed grown jacarandas can take 7+ years to flower. If you graft or grow from cuttings you can speed it up. Thanks for sharing.
Just rewatched to test the audio. Worked on a laptop, had some static in places on a phone at full volume but can't identify the high pitch sound sorry.

@@yorkiem0mwhy not push the opened pod directly to germinate? Would it fail or take longer time?

They got 4 or 5 hours of morning sun

Hey I’m using the paper towel method for this. Do w it okay to keep outodoors. Read somewhere to keep them in light. Or somewhere warm
so if you'd opened the paper towel seeds a bit earlier the roots would be shorter and easier to get into the trays? any advantage/disadvantage to that?
Nope
Ok. Ill give both methods a try. Im in UK so will see what happens. 😁🤞
As a tropical tree won’t the climate in the UK be a bit cold in winter for jacaranda?

@@dibbleandseed thank you for answering. I'll keep that in mind.
What type of soil did you use?
Is there anyway to grow them in New Jersey?
In witch season can we growth ?
Do you have to keep damping the paper towel during the germination period?
The bag was air tight so the moisture is locked in
I’m a groundskeeper at a school. We have a few jacarandas. For years I’ve wanted to gather seeds and plants to sell just never actually do it 😂
Give them to teachers in science classes. I'm sure they give it a run and then you can have 25 people doing your job for you 👌
