- When the modern barge canal was finally finished in 1918, steel was in short supply because of World War I. Concrete barges provided a solution, if only for duration of the war.
The concrete barges are above and below Lock E9. Also below lock E13 in Randal.

I'm curious to know where on the Mohawk one might get a glimpse of an old concrete barge.
I subscribed because of my interest in the Day Peckinpaugh. Does anyone know what happened to the funding and the plans to make her a museum? Glad she was saved from the scrap yard, but last I knew she was just tied up between locks 2 and 3.
