lol you totally missed that xanny is ANTI DRUG song..she says don’t give me a xanny now or EVER. She’s too young to be in a bar. She was like 16-17 when this album was made. Billie’s never done drugs. She’s explaining what it’s like being around people who do drugs. And she said the chorus is supposed to make you feel like being in a room filled with smoke..uncomfortable.
For Xanny, when she says “I can’t afford to love someone who isn’t dying by mistake in silver lake” she means that people who do drugs are “killing themselves” and she can’t afford to be in love with someone who’s killing themselves with drugs. She needs someone sober who will die “by mistake”.
I took it as a reference to actual suicide considering the similar wording in Ilomilo. Xanax is used to treat anxiety and panic disorders. Especially GAD which is associeted with a high suicide risk. Nicotine is a common way of small self-medication by people with anxiety. Alchocol can often be one too. Consider the line "I don't self-medicate" and the referencea to suicidiality (her own and other's) on the rest of the album I think it's a bit deeper than the surface reading of her just looking down on her friends for using drugs.
If I remember right, she was talking about how everyone she knew at the time was heaclvy into drugs especially in the industry and the peer pressure to join in.
“Listen before I go” - obviously a song about suicide. Billie did go through a period in her life when she was suicidal. She said she contemplated jumping out of a window while in germany. There’s no way out but down..off the roof. There’s a video of her mother coming to the room when Finneas and Billie were making this song, and she asks Billie if they really want to go this dark on a song. She also asks “are you seriously implying that you’d jump off the roof?” To which Billie responds, “this song is the reason I DON’T do it. It’s better to have SAID IT than to actually do it.” The shit kills me.
My favorite part about this album is that it’s all her different dreams and then when she wakes up in the song “goodbye” she’s remembering all her thoughts starting with the most recent song “I love you” then lastly remembering with “bad guy” the first song cuz usually when you wake up, you remember your last/recent dream
I'm still watching, I've seen people mention Xanny but to clear it up, Billie isn't the one taking drugs in that song, its the people around her. Friends, boyfriend etc. All the good girls go to hell is about global warming. Sang from the perspective of "God". "Hills burn in California". "As the waters start to rise" "Animals. Evidence" "There's nothing left to save now" etc. Hope you keep up the reactions! :)
Billie is such a visual artist that a lot of these songs you have confusion on the mv would paint the picture for you. All the mv videos coordinated to this album are masterpieces in of itself. I recommend you watching them.
“I love you” made me cry almost every time I listened to it. And I’m an older male. A beautifully painful song. The talking in the song that you thought was about a flood..it was a flight attendant on a plane. She’s singing “up all night..on another red eye” and “I wish we never learned to fly” over the flight attendants instructions.
The song “Bury a friend” was inspired by 2 things. One was Billie’s experiences with sleep paralysis. She used to go through that a lot. And the second thing? A book called “the babadook.” Billie read it when she was younger and loved it.
Funny story about “wish you were gay.” Billie actually wrote this song about a guy she really did have a crush on..and it actually did turn out this guy was gay..she found out after the song was made 😆😆
Thank you for doing this reaction, been a Billie fan for so long and I still feel like she’s underrated like her artistic abilities are impeccable especially at our age 😩🙌🏽
I’m gonna say one thing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching the documentary about Billie only on Apple+ It’s called “the world’s a little blurry” There’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff of them making this album in it.
Billie and Finneas always record sounds around them, crosswalk in Australia, dentist drill, helicopter blades and because it was made in the bedroom at home, if sirens were picked up it was left in. I think they are amazing and can't wait for what comes next
Ilomilo was inspired by a video game billie played when she was younger. It was called..ilomilo. And the 2 character in the game are friends that get separated and the whole point of the game was to bring them back together. Ps: it’s pronounced “e-low-me-low”
Yeah I agree she can go from zero to 100 quickly, I think that’s very relatable. In her “Interview” with Genius she talks about the contrast between Copycat and idontwannabeyouanymore being immediately after in the EP. I think especially as a younger person who’s still finding themselves as well as someone who struggles with depression and was in a toxic/ abusive relationship, I can imagine that the switch between inferiority and superiority can happen pretty dang quickly
In "my strange addiction" the adlibs were, indeed, from the office. Billie has stated that she is a big fan of the show and she has rewatched it too many times that it has kinda became her own strange addiction, hence why a scene from the show was included in this particular song. Also, the male voice u r hearing throughout the album with harmonies and adlibs is her brother, Finneas! He is an incredible artist himself, with his own music and albums, not only a producer.
It was very interesting seeing Jim react to this project, because some he really got it right, but when he misses the mark, oooh boy…. 😂 Jim, If you’re reading this, first: keep on being awesome. Really love your reactions. Second: this is a conceptual album about nightmares and sleep paralysis - “bury a friend” in the latter. Most of the videos for this era were horror themed, hence the “Halloween sound” you referenced. But yeah. I love how you really paid attention to the details on this one. Cheers from Brazil. Sleep tight. 😂
Jim: "Bad Guy seems somewhat sexually driven, which is a weird thing to write with your brother." Billie Bossa Nova: *Hold your beer* A lot of people mentioned Xanny, but there's one particular lyric that's super important (because it comes back in ilomilo) that you misunderstood. "I can't afford to love someone who isn't dying by mistake in Silver Lake" doesn't have much to do with Silver Lake at all. It's about how they're "not dying by mistake" because they are intentionally doing drugs that will kill them. As in, whether they realize it or not, they're killing themselves, and she can't afford to be in a relationship with someone who will do that because she could lose them at any moment. Also, "You Should See Me In A Crown" was inspired by the BBC's latest version of modern-day Sherlock. At one point, Moriarty says, "...and honey, you should see me in a crown" in a very sassy way. Apparently, when Billie heard that, it stuck with her, and inspired the entire song 😂 "All the Good Girls Go to Hell" is not about Billie. It's about climate change, specifically denialism and inaction. It's about people who pray to God to save humanity, then turn around and do nothing to prevent environmental issues we cause for ourselves. The metaphor is that God and Lucifer are trying to figure out why either of them should do anything to help humanity when we refuse to help ourselves, and all the while hills keep burning, waters keep rising, and climate keeps getting worse. (And "I cannot do this, Snowflake" is a silly reference to one of the Ace Ventura movies, apparently.) In "My Strange Addiction", those intercut spoken parts are in fact sound bites from The Office. Billie is a huge fan of that show -- so much that she once did an Office trivia against one of the stars of the show 😂 "Bury a Friend" is one of the many Billie Eilish songs that has layers of meaning (that's what happens when two people write a song together 😁). One of the most prominent that she's talked about is the idea of seeing things from the perspective of her "sleep paralysis demon" -- that's who's talking in the chorus, at least. The little sound effects, and the entire music video, are homages to the horror movie genre. "ilomilo" (pronounced ee-lo mee-lo) is also my favorite track on the album. (And according to Genius Lyrics at least, it's also Billie's favorite 😁) It's named after an old-ish (2011) puzzle game for Xbox that Billie used to play. In the game, two aliens named Ilo and Milo are separated at the start of each level, and the goal is to get them back together. So that's why the song sounds music boxy / gamey, and the lyrics are about someone leaving her and her lying to herself that they'll come back, even though she knows they won't. (Also, the "I can't lose another life" lyric being video gamey.) The line "I couldn't love someone 'cause I might break, if they're gonna die not by mistake" comes back from Xanny, along with a refence to Bury a Friend, to imply that after her partner left, she's started to worry they might be dead, but isn't sure if that's just a rationalization so she doesn't have to admit they intentionally left her. "Listen Before I Go" is a suicide letter. As someone who's suffered from an anxiety and depressive disorder most of my life, who's had suicidal ideation as long as I can remember, and who occasionally has full-blown "crying in bed until I stop crying because I'm too numb to feel, but I can't stop ruminating about how terrible I am, and I haven't eaten in 24 hours" depressive episodes... that song hits hard for me. It's beautiful, but also I wish it weren't so relatable... and I wish the imagery didn't make part of my brain go, "that sounds nice" even though most of me knows it's fucked up. #MentalHealthIsBrainHealth The atmosphere in "I Love You" is a flight. Indicator light dings, flight attendant safety speeches, etc. Because she's been "up all night on another red eye / wish we never learned to fly". And in the song, the "I love you" was absolutely real; she's just afraid that it'll change their relationship, ruin their friendship, etc. All the scary parts of suddenly taking a friendship to the next level. So she runs, trying to convince him to pretend it was a joke so their relationship can stay the same. But she loves him, too, and she feels guilty because he accepts her fear-based rejection ("the smile that you gave me even when you felt like dying"). By the end of the song, though, she accepts her own feelings and they give it a shot (in each others' arms in Central Park). So it's a happy ending, even though it's a painful premise overall.
Not trying to be rude or anything at all but I think “I cannot do this snowflake” is just her saying that she can’t finish a crochet snowflake but I might be wrong
Still watching but for Xanny, when she says in Silver Lake she’s not saying she wants a hipster, if you look at the words in that sentence she says “can’t afford to love someone who isn’t dying by mistake” basically meaning she doesn’t wanna love anyone that’s choosing things that make them die (cigs and drugs). Thanks for your reaction to this amazing album!
The last verses, before the humming, her voice is kinda broken and sad. That's because she was sad, she was crying, because her friend XXXTentacion had just died.
For the record, these songs were written when Billie and Finneas were about 16 and 20. They actually had an argument about how dark the lyrics were that is documented on The World’s a Little Blurry. There was also a song that was not completed in time called Everything I Wanted that won a grammy on its own. Billie and Finneas talk about the creation of and meaning behind that song on The Song Exploder podcast, and it is worth a listen. Billie comes by her lyrics quite honestly and had a real tough time in those mid teenage years, to which I can relate. Also, Bury a Friend is about sleep paralysis and they nailed it.
“Strange addiction” has clips from the tv show The Office in it. That’s what all the sound clips are. Some people say that watching “the office” is Billie’s strange addiction. She’s watched the entire series like 12-13 times she has said. I feel like I’ve also done the same 🤣
great reaction! fun fact, “you should see me in a crown” is actually inspired in Jim Moriarty from Sherlock! he says that line in one of the episodes of the show and both billie and finneas were massive fans, they thought it was cool and turned into the song :)
Fantastic reaction!! 👍👍 Every song has a deep backstory. About the "heavy" songs, they are heavy because she's wallowing in those thoughts. She's giving time to think and process them without being pedantic. She's dark but every song ends in a way out. That's why her message resonates so well. If you decide to react to her next album, which is highly recommended, then do her documentary movie first. It's called "The World's a Little Blurry". That will give a deeper feel for the music, lyrics, and production choices.
I love the photo of Billie and her brother/producer Finneas with their hands full of Grammys for this album. It’s a masterpiece. I think it’s got billions of streams on Spotify
BAD GUY is one of the songs that existence itself has an important social and historical meaning in pop music and socially. (and it was done involuntarily but it’s important) normally in the past those who were always seen as cool as "bad guys" were the male gender, I still remember Bad by MJ, and many others, seeing a 15 year old girl say certain things and appear cool in saying them (even if for fun) it also has an important social meaning. although today still some people are shocked, but I remember that the male gender has always said certain things in their music especially in this century and no one has ever been impressed. that song represents an important social rebellion by the female gender. how society and the female gender are evolving and how much the role of women and their equality has changed since the last century. the male and female genders are acquiring more and more equality mentally and there is also this desire to want to normalize it among the children/young gen (even if involuntarily it’s already normal for them this) and little by little the children themselves are accepting that even if you are a woman you can be masculine and be cool, because there isn't actually a difference. same thing with more feminine men. each of us has a more masculine and feminine side, even if our gender is the opposite and you don't necessarily have to like the same sex, it's just our nature... Human beings like all animals don’t exist to be put in boxes …and the new generations (like Billie Eilish) are teaching us that we shouldn't be afraid of it but freely embrace our nature. this album is not only original and so creative, but it’s one of the most important socially and musically of this century .. bc it explains social problems and the social and mental evolution of human beings… against misogyny, deals with depression, suicide, climate change (and of the selfishness, hypocrisy, greed of humans, who prays to God only to be saved and use him selfishly when these humans are destroying everything and themselves first “Man is such a fool, why are we saving him? Poisoning themselves now Begging for our help, wow .. Hills burn in California My turn to ignore ya Don't say I didn't warn ya” ... she makes fun of humanity and even religious HYPOCRISY. XANNY is against drugs, Xanax, and cigarettes .. rebellion of Billie and her generation against Xanax, today the world instead of solving the problems in this toxic society that leads children to have depression, commit suicide, use drugs to isolate themselves from this toxic society, we drug them with Xanax, instead of saving our children and the future of this world ... and it’s also against weak people that they do drug use Etc to feel accepted and she refuses to love someone who doesn't love themselves first. And many other songs have a deep meaning , same her visuals in her music videos … The whole album is a nightmare and about social problems, humans fears, phobia etc and in “Goodbye” are the lyrics of all the songs in reverse like when you wake up and you remember your dream but in reverse... this album is phenomenal.. so underrated.. there is so much to explain and say. those who don't appreciate albums like these from just 2 kids don't appreciate art in general , consider that she was only 14-16 and her brother 18-20 when they made it, this is impressive... especially after 20 years of meaningless pop music …..
oh god you are gonna LOVE happier than ever. DEFINITELY react to that before you do live stuff bc depends on what you watch you'll see her new songs in there! ALSO definitely react to "Everything I wanted", it's not in the album but it was meant for it!!
Great reaction! This album is so deep, and there's a lot to unpack. As creative as all her music is, with Finneas at the helm as producer, her true vision and artistry can be found in her videos. It's her favorite thing, besides performing. The ideas and concepts are all hers, and nowadays she directs them herself. They take her music to another level, and are all visual masterpieces. Enjoy!
Omg love a totally blind reaction for this history making album in 2023! Love the content and can’t wait for the Happier than Ever album! And also all the singles from James Bond to the Guitar Songs EP
We were all in shock listening to this album for the first time, this one was my first introduction to Billie and Finneas so I didn’t know how to feel. Until i got it, but you have to be a fan to get all the genius behind the meanings of these songs, so many people specially on the words hell and dying were losing their mind about them selling out to the Illuminati which is hilarious.
Yes definitely listens to the next album first before moving on to videos and lives. I’ll be happy to compile a playlist of her singles that you could listen to like a sort of EP as well, as a transition before watching music videos, if you’d like? Some of my favourite songs they’ve done are not on any of the albums or EPs.
Just to add to what others have said in the comments about Xanny, she wrote that song because she had friends who died from overdoses. At the very end of the song where you can clearly hear her breath exhale, she said she was crying while recording this and she was trying to hold back tears.
I’ve always thought of the song Xanny in the context that she started her career when she was like 14 and she was always around people who were doing drugs like friends, boyfriends, people she worked with, etc.
Bury A Friend is more like her depression, anxiety and torrettes are the like monster under the bed. So she is scared she's "too expensive" because of her mental health struggles. And they should be scared and want to get away because of that as well.
Billie is 16 & 17 for this; Rolling Stone names WWAFAWDWG 7th best DEBUT album of all time. Robert Christgau [DEAN'S LIST, Dec 20, 2019] the most renowned music reviewer alive (arguably) names this album 4th best of "the 25 best albums of the last 10 years [that was Dec. 2019] and writes "No teenager I can recall has ever made such an impressive album, though I guess Elvis's "Sun Sessions" gets as asterisk, and who knows who will become of her?" I believe this album is greater than you realize - Billie is not traditional POP, she is genre defying and genre defining in my opinion. Finneas was the sole writer for both "When the Party's Over" and "My Strange Addiction" [probably why the former sounded reminded you of the Finneas penned 'Ocean Eyes' - there is a chance Billie's strange addiction in that song is 'The OFFICE'' - she had it nearly memorized when Rainn Wilson quizzed her in her home on The Office trivia. Olivia could rule the POP lane for sometime and that isn't an interest of Billie's and I hope it never is. Besides, for me, Taylor actually is the POP queen.
Hi Jim, i like your reaction to this Album Album ! I think every few years there is something like this, music so differnet to the mainstream pop or rock music that it shines. On the special Edition of the Album are 3 Bonustracks, you should listen to them, they are the most beautiful Songs i know from her, you can find them on here youtube chanel (when i was older, bitches broken heart, everything i wanted). Greetings from Germany
Once you watch the videos, you will get it more, and once you learn what the songs are about, you will understand what a total Geniuses Billie Eilish & Brother Finneas are. I dare you to find the crickets in " when the party's over & the shovel full of dirt being thrown In Bury a Friend & the Dentist drills Billie Eilish & Finneas are about 3 major things... LYRICALLY, SONICALLY & ARTISTICALLY VISUAL ie: videos I have been listening to this album for over 4 years and still hear something new in it every time ! all the good girls go to hell is about global warming. Ilomilo is about a video game we're the to characters have to find each other It's when you watch the videos that we really want to see your reactions, trust me, start with when the party's over & see me in a crown (vertical version only )
BTW, these are her tracks not part of any album: six feet under lovely bored bitches broken heart come out and play when I was older everything I wanted no time to die TV 30th What was I made for?
What’s so cool about goodbye is that it sounds like you’re waking up from a dream. It’s foggy and muddy and you first remember your most recent dream and slowly build up to your earliest dream but really you’re only remembering the highlights and somehow strung them together into one big sleeping experience. Because. When we all fall asleep… where do we go? So cool.
Billie has often said she thinks of videos as she’s writing the songs so maybe check out her amazing music videos, she directs most of them herself! Visually stunning!
"Bad guy" was one of those songs that was not meant to be taken seriously, which is why she added the "duh" in there. She said as much in a making-of video. It's about a guy who's always acting so tough even though he's really not. He's pretending he's someone he's not. So she's saying "fine, if you're a tough guy, then I'm a bad guy" even though she's not. She's pointing out how silly it is to pretend to be anyone other than who you are. that's reflected in the "maybe it's cause i'm wearing your cologne," meaning "I'm acting just like someone i'm not just like you." Xanny isn't about HER takings drugs. it 's about everyone around her drinking, smoking and taking drugs and her not understanding why they would even want to as she never has and never will. Hollywood parties (she was raised and still lives in California, btw) 😒 "All the Good Girls go to Hell" is about climate change. and all the people destroying the world then praying to God for help. All the good girls go to hell because we are already in hell with a world that's falling apart around our ears. Bury a Friend is about her sleep paralysis and wrestling with her sleep paralysis demon. there's also some undertones of the dangers of the music industry and how it can destroy a person. The high pitched sound you hear frequently hear, btw, is the sped up sound of her getting her teeth filled at the dentist. It's the sound of the drill they use on your teeth lol "I Love You" doesn't have a music video, but please do watch the one called I Love You (Live at the Greek Theater) from her channel. It's incredible to hear and see that one live!!! It's about XXXTentacion who was one of her best friends and who was murdered. She can't sing it without getting emotional.
Xanny is an anti drug song, being surrounded by eveyone doing it and not wanting to loose people to it and not seeing why they do it when theyre killing themselves with it All The Good Girls Go To Hell is a song about climate change "Hills burn in California, My turn to ignore ya, Don't say I didn't warn ya" The quotes in My Strange Addition are clips from the show The Office, which Billie is a huge fan of The screeching noise in Bury A Friend is a recording of a dentist drill
I can’t wait till you hear her “happier than ever” album it’s her best yet and the complete opposite vibe of this one 😂 you’ll understand the lyrics a lot more.
listen before i go is quite self expletory, but it was suppost be be her last song. if you say 'berlin' to any billie fan they will know what yu mean (she was jumping out of a hotel window but her mum saved her). lbig makes me ball and was my suicide song as it is a suicide note. (im in a good place now) but we are so lucky maggie saved her. as well goodbye is the saddest song live as thats when she leaves to this music and its js sad and i cried hearing it live.
Hearing this now compared to her more recent stuff reminded me, I honestly wonder if she can still sing so high, now that she’s not a teenager anymore. I know she’s obviously very skilled, literally has the voice of an angel. I just can’t imagine that upper register being as accessible as it was when she was 17, 18, 19.
I think her voice is stronger now and more stable but she herself said she can't hit the high note in when the party's over where she says "quiet when I'm coming home" as easily anymore.
A lot of her lyrics on this are very impressionistic, too much focus on the literal meaning is an easy way to get lost. Xanny was from her experience at parties and with friends, everyone around her one drugs and her abstaining. I think “I can’t afford to love someone who isn’t dying by mistake” is her saying she can’t get involved with someone who is killing themselves with drugs and cigarettes. “All the Good Girls Go to Hell” is rooted in global warming, and just the general sense the world is going to Hell (for good and bad girls alike) and playing with that imagery and the need for everyone to come together, even if that means god wanting Lucifer by her side. In “when the party’s over” the lie she could tell is that she likes coming home alone. The song is about a dying relationship, and her sense it needs to die, but she’d be lying if she said she wants it to. I think she used the Office in “Strange Addiction” because she was addicted to watching the show - which might be an instance of her getting a little too precious. “Bury a Friend” is inspired by her sleep paralysis, but also her fear of the destructive parts of herself, her depression and suicidal urges at the time. The Babadook was a movie about mental illness and self destructive elements of a child taking the form of a monster, and she cited that as an influence as well. “Ilomilo” is, I’m pretty sure, about a friend of hers who was shot. She’s never said that, but there’s hints of it here and there. Like most the album, death is heavy on the song if you look closely. “Listen Before I Go” is exactly what it sounds like. “I love you” feels in some ways like a follow up - either it interrupted her plan to jump, or came after, maybe in the hospital. After all, she never learned to fly.
Yes, a perfect way to put it! One can’t focus too much on the literal meaning, they’re like poems, one needs to let the atmosphere of the words wash over you to indicate the context of the lyrics. I like your interpretation of I love you taking place after listen before I go. And I agree, I feel a lot of glimpses referring to X throughout.
All the good girls go to hell is a song about climate change. “Animals, evidence..” “Hills burn in California, my turn to ignore ya” “When the water starts to rise, and heavens out of site….she’ll want the devil on her team” “Your cover up, is caving in, man is such a fool, why are we saving him? Poisoning themselves now, begging for our help, WOW” Billie and her whole family have always been outspoken about protecting this planet. Taking care of it. They’re all vegan. Her recent headlining performance at lollapalooza was mostly powered by solar energy.
LOL she wants to save the planet and shes an advocate of solar, one of the most inefficient and wasteful forms of obtaining energy. I love her music but she should stay out of topics she knows nothing about.
@@gorbshal2598 there’s always one person that has to be a dickhead. I guess you’re that one person. Thank you for fulfilling your duties. Now you can go touch grass.
I believe that Bury a Friend is based on her sleep paralysis experiences. It's definitely unsettling by design the video just adds to it too. I also really suggest if you like to when the party's over you should watch the video for it it's great.
just something that's been stuck on my mind for a while. In atgggth, when Billie sings "all the good girls go to hell", I think the hell she's talking about is Earth, like there's so many things happening to our planet right now that it looks like a living Hell, and the good girls she talks about maybe it's the good people? Like even if they try to do things to stop Earth becoming a shitty place, it's almost ""useless"'. And the part that it says "she'll want the devil on her team", maybe the devil is us - the ones that destroys the planet, like after everything Earth's gone through, she (I guess it's either the Earth or the decent people) will still want the people that destroys the Earth on her team, because now everyone's concerned about the climate changes, even the ones that caused it (Even if minimally). Sorry I just felt the massive urge to comment that, couldn't keep it just to myself
In regards to writing sexual songs with her brother, the other day I saw Finneas say in a video that as a producer he already has to be working with other artists on that sort of intimate stuff, and there’s already a sort of established boundary there, and so he works with Billie on that stuff as if she’s any other artist he works with.
There's this girl on youtube called Talia Lahoud whomst has an amazing cover of "I Love You" that is abaolutely worth a watch and a reaction. I dread for the day when that cover dissapears from the face of the earth
‘all the good girls go to hell’ is actually about climate change. in the lyrics she says “fires burning in california” and “the water start to rise” basically mentions the problems that are happening on earth due to global warming, and is basically saying even ‘good girls’ will go to hell because we are already living in it.
no idea how you could get "is she about to do drugs?" from a song where basically the whole thing is "the people around me keep doing drugs and i don't get the appeal at all, no thanks dawg, none for me forever"
I think you should watch the music video for bury a friend. It'll make the meaning clearer. It's describing sleep paralysis but also about how she is the monster under her own bed saying "I wanna end me"
It’s amazing that Billie and Finneas wrote and produced this album in Finneas’s bedroom😳😍 “Xanny” is an anti drug song “All the good girls go to hell” is about the climate change and how we destroy the planet
All the good girls go to help is about global warming saying "there's nothing left to save now" is saying everything is already dying and we can't fix it and "hills burn in California, my turn to ignore ya" is the fact not many people are doing anything about global warming when places are burning and overheating.
Starting with Billie, now everybody has the devil theme music. Somebody's influencing the industry behind the scenes. The same influencers that sexually abused her for the first few years of her career I am sure. In one of her interviews on Howard Stern she talked about it

“How can something be so pleasant and so disturbing at the same time?!” is the perfect way to describe Billie’s music. Especially this album.
lol you totally missed that xanny is ANTI DRUG song..she says don’t give me a xanny now or EVER. She’s too young to be in a bar. She was like 16-17 when this album was made. Billie’s never done drugs. She’s explaining what it’s like being around people who do drugs. I was about to say the same thing, fully misinterpreted the anti-drug stance

For Xanny, when she says “I can’t afford to love someone who isn’t dying by mistake in silver lake” she means that people who do drugs are “killing themselves” and she can’t afford to be in love with someone who’s killing themselves with drugs. She needs someone sober who will die “by mistake”.
fucking deep
It’s better to have SAID IT than to actually do it.”
The shit kills me.
Yeah, don't know how you could miss the point with the lyrics right there.

Sounds like insects on "you should see me in a crown"... gotta watch the music video. 😂
Also "bury a friend" is loosely based on sleep paralysis.
I laughed out loud and thought the same thing. Like watch the video dude 😂
I kind of like going in compliantly blind. Ill swing back around to the music videos after the next album reaction.
She's the first and only woman to ever win all 4 major Grammies with one album - this one. And
Finneas got one for the production of this album.
You seem to like her lighter songs with more breathy vocals. Her happier than ever album really showcases it all!
Funny story about “wish you were gay.” Billie actually wrote this song about a guy she really did have a crush on..and it actually did turn out this guy was gay..she found out after the song was made 😆😆
The last song is like when you're waking up and remembering parts of your dreams, she begs you not to leave.
She is the monster under the bed
Thank you for doing this reaction, been a Billie fan for so long and I still feel like she’s underrated like her artistic abilities are impeccable especially at our age 😩🙌🏽
I’m gonna say one thing. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching the documentary about Billie only on Apple+
It’s called “the world’s a little blurry”
There’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff of them making this album in it.
I will. Thanks for letting me know about it.
Would you do a reaction to this? If so, would it be on this channel?
@@akaLids77 I doubt I could share it on RUclips. I'll put it on patron for those interested.

Ok, Ill have it up in a week or so. @@akaLids77
Billie and Finneas always record sounds around them, crosswalk in Australia, dentist drill, helicopter blades and because it was made in the bedroom at home, if sirens were picked up it was left in. I think they are amazing and can't wait for what comes next
They made this entire album in their tiny family home. Her and her brother. There was no “sound booth” 😁
Jim, If you’re reading this, first: keep on being awesome.
Jim: "Bad Guy seems somewhat sexually driven, which is a weird thing to write with your brother."
Billie Bossa Nova: *Hold your beer*
A lot of people mentioned Xanny, but there's one particular lyric that's super important (because it comes back in ilomilo) that you misunderstood.
Apparently, when Billie heard that, it stuck with her, and inspired the entire song 😂
"All the Good Girls Go to Hell" is not about Billie. (And "I cannot do this, Snowflake" is a silly reference to one of the Ace Ventura movies, apparently.)
In "My Strange Addiction", those intercut spoken parts are in fact sound bites from The Office. Billie is a huge fan of that show -- so much that she once did an Office trivia against one of the stars of the show 😂
"Bury a Friend" is one of the many Billie Eilish songs that has layers of meaning (that's what happens when two people write a song together 😁).
#MentalHealthIsBrainHealth
The atmosphere in "I Love You" is a flight.
"Everything was great when we were talking about invisaligns! Now I wanna go lay down in traffic"
- Jim after listening to Billie Eilish
Still watching but for Xanny, when she says in Silver Lake she’s not saying she wants a hipster, if you look at the words in that sentence she says “can’t afford to love someone who isn’t dying by mistake” basically meaning she doesn’t wanna love anyone that’s choosing things that make them die (cigs and drugs). Thanks for your reaction to this amazing album!
Interesting. Thanks for the clarification
I should add, a music video reaction to Everything I Wanted would be a fine thing to do before diving into Happier Than Ever
“Strange addiction” has clips from the tv show The Office in it. That’s what all the sound clips are. Some people say that watching “the office” is Billie’s strange addiction. She’s watched the entire series like 12-13 times she has said. I feel like I’ve also done the same 🤣
great reaction! fun fact, “you should see me in a crown” is actually inspired in Jim Moriarty from Sherlock! he says that line in one of the episodes of the show and both billie and finneas were massive fans, they thought it was cool and turned into the song :)
xanny was completely wrong😭😭😭
Fantastic reaction!! 👍👍
Every song has a deep backstory.
Human beings like all animals don’t exist to be put in boxes …and the new generations (like Billie Eilish) are teaching us that we shouldn't be afraid of it but freely embrace our nature.
this album is not only original and so creative, but it’s one of the most important socially and musically of this century .. bc it explains social problems and the social and mental evolution of human beings… against misogyny, deals with depression, suicide, climate change (and of the selfishness, hypocrisy, greed of humans, who prays to God only to be saved and use him selfishly when these humans are destroying everything and themselves first
“Man is such a fool,
why are we saving him?
Poisoning themselves now
Begging for our help, wow ..
Hills burn in California
My turn to ignore ya
Don't say I didn't warn ya” ...
she makes fun of humanity and even religious HYPOCRISY.

Enjoy!

Watch her music video Bury a Friend, you’ll see very much her dark sided artistry
I would lovevthat
Xanny is actually an anti drug song!
So cool.
Also:
The last three songs read: listen before I go, I love you, goodbye. It’s on purpose and is supposed to read like the end of a letter
"I don't wanna go back to the rooftop!"
Billie has often said she thinks of videos as she’s writing the songs so maybe check out her amazing music videos, she directs most of them herself! Visually stunning!
Please do Happier Than Ever soon! And please react to Everything I Wanted, it’s such a beautiful and meaningful song!
She's pointing out how silly it is to pretend to be anyone other than who you are. that's reflected in the "maybe it's cause i'm wearing your cologne," meaning "I'm acting just like someone i'm not just like you."
Xanny isn't about HER takings drugs. it 's about everyone around her drinking, smoking and taking drugs and her not understanding why they would even want to as she never has and never will. Hollywood parties (she was raised and still lives in California, btw) 😒
"All the Good Girls go to Hell" is about climate change. and all the people destroying the world then praying to God for help.
It's the sound of the drill they use on your teeth lol
"I Love You" doesn't have a music video, but please do watch the one called I Love You (Live at the Greek Theater) from her channel. It's incredible to hear and see that one live!!! It's about XXXTentacion who was one of her best friends and who was murdered. She can't sing it without getting emotional.
Xanny is an anti drug song, being surrounded by eveyone doing it and not wanting to loose people to it and not seeing why they do it when theyre killing themselves with it
All The Good Girls Go To Hell is a song about climate change "Hills burn in California, My turn to ignore ya, Don't say I didn't warn ya"
The quotes in My Strange Addition are clips from the show The Office, which Billie is a huge fan of
The screeching noise in Bury A Friend is a recording of a dentist drill

I can’t wait till you hear her “happier than ever” album it’s her best yet and the complete opposite vibe of this one 😂 you’ll understand the lyrics a lot more.
listen before i go is quite self expletory, but it was suppost be be her last song. if you say 'berlin' to any billie fan they will know what yu mean (she was jumping out of a hotel window but her mum saved her). lbig makes me ball and was my suicide song as it is a suicide note. (im in a good place now) but we are so lucky maggie saved her. as well goodbye is the saddest song live as thats when she leaves to this music and its js sad and i cried hearing it live.
ooo i’ve been excited for this one!!
Album then all her MVs then live performances!!
Some of the percussion in bad guy is the audible tone for crosswalks in australia
And I agree, I feel a lot of glimpses referring to X throughout.
ilomilo is based off of the game “ilo and milo” basically about getting thr two characters to eachother
abt bury a friend billie said she was singing abt the monsters whom are under your bed when you sleep like in their perspective
Dude! I completely believe the same thing with souls, dimensions and conciousness.
All the good girls go to hell is a song about climate change.
“Animals, evidence..”
“Hills burn in California, my turn to ignore ya”
“When the water starts to rise, and heavens out of site….she’ll want the devil on her team”
“Your cover up, is caving in, man is such a fool, why are we saving him? Poisoning themselves now, begging for our help, WOW”
Billie and her whole family have always been outspoken about protecting this planet.

I would love to see you do a reaction to the artist Ethel Cain
44:15 Bury a friend is about bad dreams and having sleep paralysis, it's kinda scary but it's so cool lol
I really like your interpretation of the album as a whole
In regards to writing sexual songs with her brother, the other day I saw Finneas say in a video that as a producer he already has to be working with other artists on that sort of intimate stuff, and there’s already a sort of established boundary there, and so he works with Billie on that stuff as if she’s any other artist he works with.
All the good girls go to hell is about global warming and how the older generations look at is like we’re supposed to fix what they broke
He mentioned Insects in You Should see me in a crown 🕷️
After this listening to Happier Than Ever Album is a complete must.
There's this girl on youtube called Talia Lahoud whomst has an amazing cover of "I Love You" that is abaolutely worth a watch and a reaction. I dread for the day when that cover dissapears from the face of the earth
WAITINGGG FOR HAPPIER THAN EVER NOWW
I just noticed she’s counting down on wish you were gay
Listen to happier than ever! It’s really good and shows her growth in music very well
‘all the good girls go to hell’ is actually about climate change. in the lyrics she says “fires burning in california” and “the water start to rise” basically mentions the problems that are happening on earth due to global warming, and is basically saying even ‘good girls’ will go to hell because we are already living in it.
Xanny is an anti drug song, she’s talking about her friends being high, but she’s not.
All The Good Girls Go To Hell is actually about global warming
I can't wait for the reaction of "Happier Than Ever"
no idea how you could get "is she about to do drugs?" from a song where basically the whole thing is "the people around me keep doing drugs and i don't get the appeal at all, no thanks dawg, none for me forever"
I think you should watch the music video for bury a friend. It'll make the meaning clearer. It's describing sleep paralysis but also about how she is the monster under her own bed saying "I wanna end me"
You gotta listen to "The rise and fall of a Midwest princess" by chappel roan I think you'd LOVE IT
Oh thats not...
I've seen a lot of music reactions and never has someone *not* get an album like this ever haha
I love that she doesn't write "whinny codependent love songs" ie TS Adele
It’s amazing that Billie and Finneas wrote and produced this album in Finneas’s bedroom😳😍
“Xanny” is an anti drug song
“All the good girls go to hell” is about the climate change and how we destroy the planet
All the good girls go to help is about global warming saying "there's nothing left to save now" is saying everything is already dying and we can't fix it and "hills burn in California, my turn to ignore ya" is the fact not many people are doing anything about global warming when places are burning and overheating.
Pls react to happier than ever album's. This album just hit me. I think this album show us new sides of billie, i love it so much
the clips in my strange addiciton are of the tv show the office which is billie's favourite show
You should really react to the Happier Than Ever album! It’s my favorite from Billie.
Ilomilo is my favorite song from Billie. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Starting with Billie, now everybody has the devil theme music. Somebody's influencing the industry behind the scenes. The same influencers that sexually abused her for the first few years of her career I am sure. In one of her interviews on Howard Stern she talked about it
