- This obscure vehicle has been hiding in The Empire Strikes Back under our noses from the very beginning. Unfortunately, this awesome little vehicle has only gotten minimal recognition. Time to change that!

In all honesty, it takes serious bravery to go up against a huge barrage of AT-ATs in what is basically just a weaponized snowmobile...
Star Toyota Wars
I mean, when your back is against the ice-wall, you’ll throw anything at anyone to survive
I don't think that the rebels new what the emperials were going to attack with1
Don't forget they went against AT-AT's with basically modified cargo pullers with the Snowspeeders.
There are weirder things to weaponize and take into battle. Ever seen a Bloblobber?
*Starts talking about lego sets right from the start* Oh this is going to be good
Edit: And I was right! Great model, great behind the scenes and a great lore. Overall great job
More like:This is where the fun begins
I’ve been writing this science fiction book for some time now. I need help with ship design. Message me plz!
Now we need to see the Rebel speeder from the 2007 battle pack
That promotional still of Luke in the Tank is incredible
I heart literally skips a beat when I see a video of yours because I love them so much.
Exactly what happened when I saw this in recommended
This vehicle which i never saw before connects my long standing head cannon for how Luke got back to his X-wing despite being among the Imperial Walkers when he was shot down- after he destroyed the AT-AT with a grenade in the under carriage he hitched a ride back to the Rebel fall back position on some sort of Starwars version of a Jeep (which surely the Rebels had something like that)
This vehicle fits perfect- its like a Jeep with a Recoilless rifle mounted on the back
as for what the cannons could do- I think the gun has two heavy repeater blasters (starwars equivalent of .50 caliber) and one light Laser Cannon (starwars equivalent of 37mm or 50mm) At best the Snow Jeep could defeat an AT-ST but nothing heavier. the Repeating blasters were extremely effective against infantry and light speeders But not an AT-ST or anything with basic armor.
Snow Jeep should be a repulsor lift vehicles that uses Skies as well because when firing its drive core is entirely used for its cannons (it cannot shoot and move at the same time) also when running it would use the Skies to avoid hitting its frame when going over the snow and when moving at slow speeds
In the name of the Galactic Senate of The Republic, you're under arrest, Chancellor.
Alternitively, as a supposed ice cutter, they may have used it to cut out the trenches and then left it on the field as an improvised anti-personel device.
That's actually a really good idea, I like that!
Everytime you bring one of these obscure ships/vehicles fully to life, I keep saying "no @$#%ing way!".
The BTS history of the model, your model, your lore, everything is so freaking awesome!
No
The blueprint looks an awful lot like the barge(s) used in the Sarlaac pit scene in ROTJ
I'm sure that's because the design was hardly featured in ESB, they probably liked some aspects of the design so they just recycled it for the sand barges in RoTJ.
It definitely could be Ubrikkian.
@@winstonsmith8482 Kinda like the Hoth AT-ST model vs the Endor one in RotJ.
@@LordVader1094 Hm interesting, that might be something I'm unaware of, what are the differences between them?
@@LordVader1094 i didnt realize those were different? Ill have to look that up
Dear God, he’s doing land vehicles now!!
YES!!!
There has to be a video about the slightly different AT-ST now.
EC Henry: Designs a land vehicle.
Fans: They can drive now?!
In an early script draft Luke was supposed to commandeer a cannon. Would that have been one of these, and is that why Mark was in a publicity still with one? Also, could this possibly have been an inspiration for the Kenner toy mini-rig MLC-3 Mobile Laser Canon?
i think that was how he was going to get back to where his X-wing was. It always bothered me that he had to run from where he crashed to where he escaped from Hoth. thats a long way to run when AT-STs are running around shooting everything.
Mogadishu
I really like how you can tell that Jabba’s sail barge from “Jedi” was clearly based on the ship. I know I can’t be the only one that sees the resemblance between the two.
I require further explanation.
Jedi starfighters are just A-wings.
Man, if only they've shown the taun-tauns pulling these things on film, it would've been like the real wars it's been based on. (towed cannons from revolutionary to modern era wars)
That seems unnecessarily primitive/slapdash together even for the Rebels.
@@ANTSEMUT1 Why? Most landspeeders are ridiculously fast to relegate to hauling this shitty sled around, and tauntauns are ubiquitous on Hoth. Short of carrying it with people (which tbf, is how most artillery trailers work), tauntauns seem like the simplest, and a quite cost-effective solution.
I absolutely love these looks at obscure and out of focus technically canon ships and vehicles
EC Henry Strikes Back with another great work.
It's so good whenever you do a video about something that was in the film that has not been discussed. Can't say that all the times I watched the film that I have ever noticed then before.
I was confused when I saw the thumbnail but then a flood of nostalgia came washing over me as I realized that it was based off of that LEGO set I had as a kid.
SAME!!!
Wow, this was incredible! A lost Star Wars vehicle I have never heard about or seen before. Great Job.👍🥰🥰🔥🔥
One thing I love about Legends is that it included all the behind the scenes creatures and details and makes a story out of them
Amazing! I've been hoping you'd do the Hoth tank for ages and this is even better than I expected. Your videos are the best!
The way it's positioned between the battlements in the background absolutely reminds me of WW2 tank destroyers. The only thing it needs (to look the part, and in general) is some kind of shield for the gunner
Which could be an energy shield bubble around the drive’s seat. That would give them a wide view and protection from small arms fire.
I wish Disney would use this, and give credit ofc, in a new series like Andor.
Very nice video with a very nice model about a very nice vehicle I've never seen before. Time to watch Empire again.
Nice video, I always love it when we see some new renders of some background ship or vehicle!
Star Wars Legion needs this!
This is why this channel is awesome, I never would have noticed this vehicle in the background of Hoth, nice catch!
EC Henry back at it again i see. Keep it up man!
I have always wondered how Lego was inspired to design the vehicle. Thank you for explaining it! It now has a better place in my collection.
I have a new appreciation for this Lego set. Keep loving these 3D model recreations!
AGREED
So cool. Your channel does more to get me excited about Star Wars than anything Disney can muster.
I love how much light you shed on small background details!! It’s amazing how much there remains to be seen in-depth the expansive Star Wars universe!
I love how it's got the same gun as the the tow cable launcher on snow speeder.
Honestly, it reminds me of the British Army's WWII-era 'Universal Carrier': a lightly-armoured tracked vehicle which was used as a tractor, personnel carrier, ammunition carrier, gun tractor, and also a Self-propelled anti-tank gun (they bolted a 2-pdr gun onto the thing and there was just enough room for the crew and ammunition supply). I believe there were also variants fitted with MGs as primitive IFVs.
I could easily imagine the rebels taking a cargo sled with this basic form and bolting a massive laser/turbo laser onto it for anti-armour duty.
Dude, when I was 15 this set was so cool to me. I worked so many part time hours at McDonald’s just to buy these. I know it may seem obsessive but I just like the design (plus mainly to get lots of pilots and rebel Hoth troopers) and I just loved the set so much. Eventually I did stop at 12 of them though. So seeing this is making me want to buy as many that are being resold as possible but I won’t since it’ll be a waste of money in the long run since I have so many already.
In other words, this is my obsession for a few weeks made realistic
Edit: I agree how it looks like a wwii tank destroyer. It reminds me of the tiny Italian l35 the most for some reason.
Something I wish we could've seen in a Battlefront game. It's cool riding tauntauns but they never control very well, and this here is one of the few on screen examples of a proper Rebel ground vehicle.
Just an idea, but maybe it's both repulsorlift and ski? If it's base task (or a designed feature) was the ability to bore through ice, being able to lift completely is probably unnecessary. (And possibly a hazard in tunnels.) So the skis keep it grounded but still mobile, the repulsorlift makes it effectively a bit lighter and functions as propulsion.
2:31 That’s not a tank destroyer, that’s a self-propelled howitzer. There’s no way in hell you could make direct-fire precision shots on tanks with that thing.
its a lorraine schlepper and yes while it was a SPH on paper, the germans used it mostly in the direct fire role according to the reports by the units that used them.
the reason you wouldn't use it against tanks is it lacked a anti-tank shell, it was only ever issued HE and smoke shells. the gun was more accurate than similar weapons the germans used against tanks on other mounts and dismounted, however, that were quite effective against tanks so i don't see why it would be 'too inaccurate'.
I think you have taken arcadey computer games like WoT too seriously.
Thanks for all these creations of obscure ships !
The amount of detail on your models always impresses me. I wish I could be half as good at 3D modeling as you.
Also, if you had the opportunity to completely redesign a ship that already exists in some sci-fi universe, what would it be and why?
Also also, just a fanboy's request; I'd love to see you redesign/remodel/rework/re-whatever the Yamato from Space Battleship Yamato into something that you think would fit better.
I love your videos so much!
this is amazing quality thank you for this!
This was my first LEGO set my guy.
I HAD THAT LEGO SET AND MADE STOP MOTION WITH IT, thanks for the nostalgia
That’s the first LEGO set I ever had! My childhood is validated.
I actually really like the ice cutter lore. The rebels did a lot of repurposing surplus or civilian equipment, so it fits in universe, but it also harkens back to a lot of the improvised vehicles used in WW2 with artillery pieces and steel plates mounted on agricultural tractors or existing chassis to make impromptu tank destroyers. That Star Wars so heavily draws on WW2 just makes it fit in all the more.
It's the Star Wars equivalent to the M3 Gun Motor Carriage.
I love the work you do finding obscure vehicles, building models and making lore for them. Thank you.
Love the comparison to the Tank Hunter, I have no clue how I missed these in the movie for so long. Thanks for all your great work.
Any plans for a follow-up on the Ubese video? As the Leia Bounty Hunter skin was added to Battlefront II, together with Boushh-esque translations of her usual voice lines, maybe that helps to fill in some more grammar gaps? :)
Love your videos, the attention to obscure details is peak geekdom!
I SO look forward to seeing this notification from RUclips. You do such AMAZING work bringing the depth of the Star Wars Universe to life. Thank you!!!
It's the Rebel Alliance's version of a Panzerjäger I!
Though somewhat less effective.
That model is really good. Looks like a real object.
The amount of background footage you found is insane 😃 love the series, proud to be a supporter on patreon because of it
Man, I love these videos so much!
Hell yeah! A new one!
Love how you're able to build these models based on so few details. Cheers.
I think we need to ask to get this thing in the shows
Star Wars merchandising was infamous for using EVERYTHING and EVERY CHARACTER that was on screen ever and at all. Unfortunately, some small vehicles, which would be handy for selling smaller sets, did get lost then and over time.
Thanks for the sleuthing, man.
This is really cool especially because I've always loved that Lego set but always thought it was such a strange little vehicle like it looked like oh yeah it's a ski a snowmobile but for Star Wars but had no idea that it actually was based off something I figured they just made it up cuz it looked so simple.
The use of the T-47 tow cables was improvised to attack AT ATs. But the tow hitch on the front of these little vehicles would presumably allow a T-47 to quickly grapple one and tow it across a battlefield for deployment. So does that mean we can surmise that’s what the tow cables were mainly used for?
I am about 50% sure this sled was the inspiration for the manned turrets from the old Battlefront games.
Excellent work as always!
This video kept coming up in my feed and I kept scrolling past it until I stopped and I looked at who made it and I was like wait E.C. Henry made this oh s*** I got to watch this
They would be beam weapons for close combat or repulsion barrier traps. Last ditch effort weapons. Like tracctor beams that are used for transport and freight loading that can be used for trap weapon support.
Don't even need to make this into a microfighter. Stress free viewing.
Today i found out one of my favorite Lego sets as a kid were in the movies
slight mistake: tank destroyers were more geared towards ambushing tanks and running away than chasing them down. to the point that at least one was built with the gun facing the back of the vehicle to facilitate a quicker departure.
I never knew this thing existed! and I thought I knew almost every spaceship and vehicle in the star wars universe. I hope ECHENRY models a lot of the obscure or forgotten legends vehicles that canon Disney star wars will never bring to canon. an example is All Terrain Experimental Transport (AT-XT)
Very nice vehicle and excellent model :)
The quality of your models are insane! They look like they were photoscanned from the real thing. Have you ever thought about selling courses or something similar? Would easily drop $150+ for a glimpse at your workflow!
I have that Lego set, Never knew they were real. I always thought Lego made it up like the Imperial dropship.
One of my first Lego sets
Can we have some demand this vehicle to make a in cannon appearance... somewhere. They should have put this in during the battlefront series.
Damn i had this lego set as one of my first sw Lego sets i never knew it was based on a real prop. I still have the mini figures and build
Alright, time to figure out how this might be employed and how units equipped with it might be organized.
This right here is great content
*GASP* The Rebels with armor in CANON!!! During the battle of Hoth no less? My prayers have been answered!
Maybe in universe the vehicle was easily modifiable so the rebels could swap between a laser canon and an ice cutter whenever necessary
I'd be interested to see your take on some of the kenner mini-rigs.
Amazing work!
I never knew about this. Sweet!
I had that LEGO set as a kid actually!
Feels like quite the effort to make such a nice looking 3d model for only a 3 minute video xd also is that heat insulation for an open-topped vehicle in the front??
Damn I wish I still had that lego build, I took it apart years ago to make something else.
You know. We could assume that this could be the evolution of the clone wars mini walkers or that tank they used to fight the Zilo beast.
You know what else is weird. The rebel scout speeder from lego
Awesome, as always!
I still have the mustache man from the lego set and he's still one of my favorites l Lego characters I still have
Did you ever do the Z-95 Head Hunter believe it was a Rebel fighter from the X-Wing Video game.
Wow that’s cool vehicle!
That was only a promotional still? Here I was, thinking there was a whole deleted scene/sequence where Luke was fighting his way into or out of Echo Base, just mowing down snow troopers before he got to his X-wing.
Man this thing is badass.
i really hope we get to see these up close if there's ever a battlefront 3
could still be a repulser craft if its an industrial tool then it might likely be pretty modest, just enough to move around on. that could in turn make its stable landing gear important as instead of a weapon of war, its a precision tool. likely modifications could push it back towards the performance needed for war, but i think its probably required for the manufacturer to make it difficult to accomplish.
perhaps towards this, the power source is not capable of driving he repulser and the energy weapon at the same time? and the weapon needs an accumulator to fire a blast and to maintain a a cutting beam? perhaps with work they can get a slow charge while its using the repulser? if the weapon was powerful enough, this could make for a pretty decent support weapon.
if the repulser is completely on the underside it would need some sort of landing gear to settle on, again, pr0obably something substantial to stabilize when in use. assuming it didn't already use skis, Hoth the existing gear would likely sink into the snow and so the skis could easily be made out of any sort of metal and added.
I wish it was considered a vehicle. They remind me mobile 8.8 flak that were used as tank killers.
More like EC Henry, the unsung hero of the Star Wars fanbase.
@samson pessah the not sung enough hero
I had no idea that the Rebels had land vehicles in the movies, it is a shame that there isn't many, but I guess land vehicles don't really fit into the tactics of spaceborne rebel cells, but I have played enough Star Wars Empire At War to know that at least in legends they had them, the T2B Swarm is overpowered.
I agree with your assertion of the sled being a tank destroyer, but a more similar vehicle in terms of size comparison would be the German Wiesel. Same purpose, but much smaller than the medium tank hulls of ww2 🤓😃
as always this was so cool!
Just saw a possible actual historical model here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NKL-26 A snowmobile used by the Soviets during the siege of Leningrad on WWII... I don't know if this was a direct inspiration for the ESB art department, but it's quite close...
I loved this set Amal but still cool
I always wanted them in games. I felt they should have been included in 2015's Battlefront or 2017's battlefront 2. These would have given the rebels at least 1 land based armor vehicle.
gorgeous!!!
That was my first ever Lego star wars set.
The Rebels look turns riding them down hills.
