You guys are amazing storytellers, as a recent migrant you guys have been truly helpful at understanding the different nuances of home economics. But now you’ve knocked it out of the park with this “bond” theme. Loved it!!
The puns in this video reached "oh god, mom and dad! GET OUT OF MY ROOM!" level, but with the underlying tone of parents who actually genuinely care. I may have cringed, but I will be damned if I donʻt acknowledge the above and beyond amount of effort put into this video.
Ah yes, that reminds me. After the bit about asking parents about money, I went ahead and asked my mom that. She told me she had a bunch of government bonds stashed away somewhere she no longer remembered (as one of the funds, not the only fund, fortunately). I told her we went to the bank together some 10 years before to cash those in already. Yes, she did not remember having cashed them in until I reminded her of that.
This is the best Two Cents video yet. Shocking. Positively shocking. It is punfully obvious how much hard work and preparation went into this. Pure Goldfinger.
I only knew what they were because my grandparents bought them for me when I was a kid. I just never knew how they work and that businesses utilize the bonds system.
I love this channel so much! It's funny, cute, and chock full of financial knowledge. I have been buying into an index fund for many years on the advice of my relative, but didn't really know exactly what it was until you explained it in one of your videos.
Ya'll had fun making this one. Great stuff guys. I thought I knew a good bit about bonds, but I still learned some things. Really fun, too. Except for the YOLT pun >:(
I cashed some a while back that my mother had gotten me when I got laid off. Came in handy for a while. I didn’t think of it as a short term investment though. I will definitely look into this when I’ve saved up enough money.
This is a great refresher for my intro to finance class during my spring break brain drain. I got reminded of coupon rates, present and future principal values, and most importantly, to do my homework. Thanks Two Cents!
4:27 Bond Fund 1:28 Bond Investor 1:38 10K Bond 2:08 Zero Coupon Bond (Series EE Savings Bonds) 2:32 Guarantee 2:47 2:56 Issuer Default 3:45 Sub-Prime Bonds 4:02 Changes within the Bond Market 4:38 Bond Fund and Stock Fund 5:02 Bond Funds for Short Term Intentions
The pun counter reminds me about that one Shouth Park show where they had a counter how often they said "shit" because it was no longer banned in TV (I think it was S05E01 _It Hits the Fan_ ). I think they said it about 200 times in ~20 minutes. So TwoCents' rate is higher than theirs. STONKS INCREASED!!
Looove the video so much!! always waiting for the newest video from both of you :) i just start learning about personal finance, and i found the right yt channel
Great video. I've been investing in CETES here in Mexico, but those are shorter term than bonds (more like t-bills) and that's because I'll need my savings within 2 years (and bonds are longer term) I wish you had gone more into how interest rate changes affect bond resale values.
I definitely prefer stocks over bonds because I'm younger and want to grow my wealth from “0 to Infinity” sooner rather than later 📈🚀Growth stocks and Dividend Income work for me!
Perhaps beyond the scope of this video, but you could also mention that is generally good practice to mix stocks and bonds in one's protfolio. When stocks do badly bonds tend to do well, and when stocks do well bonds tend to just trod along as usual!
I have a Q for you - how do bond principal and the disbursements change as interest rates go up and down. Would love to see a video on that. I know the bond price is inverse to interest rates but not sure about the payout
Now with the advent of bonds being electronic only, you buy savings bonds at face value and every month the interest is added to the bond and compounded twice a year, but since it's still a zero coupon bond you get the interest along with the principal either when you cash it in or when it matures after 30 years. Note: you can redeem saving bonds after one year but you will be penalized 3 months of interest if you don't wait 5 years.
Thank you so much for your videos! I’vve watched almost all of them, but this one really resonated with me the most. I’m currently an accountancy student and I’ve always been interested on investing on bonds cause the stock market makes me too anxious! One of my finance courses only covered this briefly, so I’m really thankful for clearing stuff up for me! Definitely gonna do more research hehe. I appreciate the puns btw!! Makes finance topics less daunting (even though I’m an accountancy student LOL)
I have several Government EE savings bonds that were given to me as a baby. They take 30 years to fully mature, but some of them have great interest rates... so I’m going to sit on them until they mature and then put that money into new investments (probably my Roth IRA)
I took a fixed income class dedicated to bonds back in my finance degree. Built myself a Macaulay duration calculator from scratch for a test that I'm still proud of. And I still remember all those risk factors (reinvestment risk etc). Also still holding onto my EE bond since it pays 4% interest (unless I'm mistaken bonds pay interest i want to say up to 30 years past maturity). Much better than the 0.35% it pays today!
Hey Tom! I would check on those EE bonds -- they can dramatically reduce after a certain point. Might be measly .35% you mentioned. Just typed in the identification code on the bond online and you can get the current interest. Cheers!
Wow! 15 Bond puns in one video! That's got to be a new record! I strongly recommend regular investors buy bond index funds unless you have significant cash to buy multiple bonds.
Best episode yet! I loved the intro and the puns were top notch. I have some series EE bonds that I got from my grandparents that I'm going to put towards a down payment on a house. Keep up the great videos!
Just found out about two cents, I love it! Great information presented well! Much love to all the pbs RUclips creators, I am mostly familiar with pbs Eons but now I am much more excited to dive deeper into the other channels! 😁
Today I learned there are a lot of James Bond movies that I haven't seen...
LOL 😂👍
Same!
Lmao 😂
same
From russia with love
This is obscenely cheesy to the point of being offensive but I do kind of adore it.
Mission accomplished.
@@TwoCentsPBS To be fair, to make a pun video not cheesy is sort of Mission: Impossible.
Okay Karen, let's all get offended about a Savings Bond video......
30 seconds in and I see Pun-o-Meter - this gonna be good :D
EDIT: AND THAT INTRO! Amazing :)
Yep
The dad jokes exploded recently... I wonder why lol
There were so many puns that I almost lost my...interest.
oooooohhhh nice one
There should be a "bond" counter. 🤣
There is a pun counter, keep a Golden Eye on it
You guys are amazing storytellers, as a recent migrant you guys have been truly helpful at understanding the different nuances of home economics. But now you’ve knocked it out of the park with this “bond” theme. Loved it!!
I appreciate that the attempted accent only lasted 2 seconds lol
I came for the knowledge, I stayed for the puns.
THIS IS THE BEST TWO CENTS VIDEO.
That thumbnail is bananas 🤣 But that opening sequence was pretty epic!
That intro definitely deserves a like!
The puns in this video reached "oh god, mom and dad! GET OUT OF MY ROOM!" level, but with the underlying tone of parents who actually genuinely care.
I may have cringed, but I will be damned if I donʻt acknowledge the above and beyond amount of effort put into this video.
Now go brush your teeth and don't forget your lunchbox!
0:50 Oh man, that banana got me good. Haha. Almost fell off my chair.
I didn't notice it was a banana till you made me look again!! lol
It's a family show. No guns!
Favorite. Two. Cents. Video. EVER. And not just cause of the puns.
Ah yes, that reminds me. After the bit about asking parents about money, I went ahead and asked my mom that. This is so useful. I already owned bond funds but never really understood them. You make things so easy to understand.
Holy crow. Phillip has that tuxedo refinement look to a tea. Stay classy, Two Cents.
Came for the comments, was not disappointed.
This is the best Two Cents video yet. Shocking. Positively shocking. It is punfully obvious how much hard work and preparation went into this. Pure Goldfinger.
2Cents videos are always great, but this time it is the Best 2Cents video ever. Fun and educating tnx✌️
I'm already dying at the thumbnail 🤣
Y'all were having WAY too much fun with puns, bond puns. AND I LOVED IT!
Who else had no idea what a bond was before this video 😂
I didn't, but now I know that it's the name of a movie agent
I only knew what they were because my grandparents bought them for me when I was a kid. I just never knew how they work and that businesses utilize the bonds system.
LOVE IT! What a fun way to teach about bonds, savings bonds! Great job Two Cents!

May Wong a savings amount of it lol 😂
Are you trying to start up a Two Cents drinking game?...
Alastor yes

Hahaha... awww. The YOLT was the only joke that made me LOL when I watched it after!
I cashed some a while back that my mother had gotten me when I got laid off. Came in handy for a while. I didn’t think of it as a short term investment though. I will definitely look into this when I’ve saved up enough money.
How is this channel on no more popular? You guys are fun.

I like my Bond jokes shaken not stirred
Where is the best place to buy bonds?
THANK YOU for doing this. You're doing America a huge service.
That INTRO! - loved it.
This was the best intro on your channel ever.
*I remember getting bonds as a kid but sold them 10 years later since their growth was really slow.* 😉
Best financial education channel in RUclips 😄
Great video. I've been investing in CETES here in Mexico, but those are shorter term than bonds (more like t-bills) and that's because I'll need my savings within 2 years (and bonds are longer term) I wish you had gone more into how interest rate changes affect bond resale values.
You two bring me such joy, and knowledge, thank you! And thank you to PBS for prioritizing this content.
Gold is a topic you'll need to cover next with the Coronavirus causing markets to crash. Loving the new intro guys! XxX
Good job on whoever wrote the script! All puns were great!
I definitely prefer stocks over bonds because I'm younger and want to grow my wealth from “0 to Infinity” sooner rather than later 📈🚀Growth stocks and Dividend Income work for me!
Lol I think you need to take a look at $TLT
Stabbing Squidward Definitely a nice jump from $130’s to $160’s 👍
I'm still at the intro but I'm loving this already
Love this segment. The theme, the lessons, everything!
Perhaps beyond the scope of this video, but you could also mention that is generally good practice to mix stocks and bonds in one's protfolio. When stocks do badly bonds tend to do well, and when stocks do well bonds tend to just trod along as usual!
Graphics in this are awesome!
Love the production quality of these videos!
just discovered this channel and ive been binging, where has this been it's gorgeous
Wait, at which point did you change from Bonds to bond funds? Confused =O
love love love the bond theme this ep. especially the intro
You two have a great bond.
I have a Q for you - how do bond principal and the disbursements change as interest rates go up and down. Would love to see a video on that. I know the bond price is inverse to interest rates but not sure about the payout
I loved everything about this. From Virginia with Love
When I saw the Dubai Skyline background I thought you guys gonna mention something about bonds in Dubai 🧐
Loved the bond theme 😁

What if I buy bonds from a company and that company goes bankrupt? Is my bond still guaranteed?
