    For some reason this title has always passed me by in previous Kino sales, but you talked me into the purchase (Amazon has it currently for 12 bucks and change, so what the heck?). I laughed when you mentioned Randolph Scott playing the typical ineffectual romantic lead and then showed him in a screencap where he oddly resembles David Manners, Universal's usual go-to guy in those roles.
    Just received 2 releases in the mail today group Eureka that I know you'll appreciate -- the Universal Terrors set with 3 Karloffs: NIGHT KEY, THE CLIMAX and THE BLACK CASTLE;
    and also the Masters of Cinema presentation of Ford's THE SUN SHINES BRIGHT (with a new Joseph McBride commentary)...

      I have to get both of those. I’m soo behind on Eureka titles.
      I’m glad you decided to give it a try. I’m amazed we have so many precode horrors available now on disc. This is really interesting because of the White Zombie meets Paramount feel plus Lombard getting to go full eeeeevil. Scott has great strength in these thankless parts and it’s funny in the cutaways because he has his typical leading man presence and is just kinda there. It’s the same thing in MURDERS IN THE ZOO but at least there he gets a little bit to do and handles some snakes. Makes one wish they had somehow gotten Lionel Atwill into this film too!
      I must confess I love David Manners in Dracula and wouldn’t change his Harker at all. The Mummy is a Dracula remake in most ways and another of its strengths is making the Manners character more invested and likable. But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t do some Manners Harker impressions from time to time.🤣

      @@DamnFoolIdealisticCrusader As someone who committed to memory the entire Edward Van Sloan curtain prologue speech from FRANKENSTEIN when he was 8 years old, I can relate...🤪

    I kidd you not I was only watching a doco about Lombard yesterday and now you're uploading these reviews... so weird. Anyway, this film looks neat and I haven't seen it.

      It’s truly a fascinating part of precode horror, with Paramount hiring the Halperins post-White Zombie.
      I rewatched one Lombard classic and fell down the rabbit hole…

    Thx for your review. It sounds like a decent film for early horror fans.❤

      It’s a heck of a lot of fun for horror and PreCode fans. If you like White Zombie, this is a must.

    I own this. Should watch it. Notoriously buy things and never watch them.

    Anyone know the title of a precode horror movie about a serial killer on a ship?

      Your description makes me think of Lewton’s The Ghost Ship but that isn’t PreCode.

      Try ' Terror Aboard '. Psycho John Halliday bumps off a dozen or so people in order to avoid his yacht putting into port where the authorities will arrest him for his illegal business practices.

      It may be "Phantom Ship" (alt title: The Mystery of the Mary Celeste) with Bela Lugosi. However, it was released in 1935. I have seen it, and felt it was worth watching. 🏋️
