Really unsure whats the prupose or benefit of sections compared to frames.

I think sections are useful, however they've made my project laggy
I don't think sections are well thought out and needlessly complicate the figma mental model. They should be a beta enhancement that is accessible behind a feature flag before changing the core product. I would rather see groups or frames enhanced instead of introducing a new high level artifact.
Two notes about sections:
- you can also "delete" section by ungrouping it with Shift + Ctr l+ G
- and also you actually can put a section inside a section - so it's still the top-level element, but you can kinda group it too if you want

man I was really hoping for more organisational capabilities with sections - they are literally just glorified frames. They could've made the label bigger as well as adding section statuses, something that my design team currently has to make components for (e.g. "Ready for Review", "In-Progress", "To do" etc)
No but you are able to make a flow sequence put it in a section and then share a link on your google calendar or with friends etc. I thought that was cool
I literally do what sections do but manually for years haha. I wish they did a but more like increase the label size other aspects.

How is Sections different from a Frame or an Art board?

I will probably use them more in design systems but other than that not sure what I will use them for lol
You can have the auto-layout frames in the section still
They're awesome for organizing your content and keeping things grouped. I love em. Happy path, a/b tests, work in progress, etc.
Design Systems as you said are also a natural fit.
I think we will be getting a lot of use out of them. It’ll help organize groups of frames such as multiple pages in an app or other types of related content.
We are also likely to use it to separate out designs that we organize into different milestones.

what's the main difference between section and frames?
Really miss a sensible place to gather overlays. I tried adding them to a section but that broke all links to them in the prototype, hope Adobe will add some magic to this when XD gets more merged with Figma in the coming year. And Figma still not having page folders is unbelievable, such a basic thing in 2022. I really do think XD is a much better UI editor and prototype tool. If the brilliance of Figma's collaboration features gets merged with the editor of XD it can be great.
Sections can go within other sections.

no, this is an obvious idea that should have been added a long time ago. all teams already add their own sections by just having text layers and boxes above groups of pages.
@@nick-kassebaum bro, there's frames that can do everything, that's the beauty of having tools that don't require menu diving to accomplish very similar results.
@@mantasrubsta Yea but those frames have properties related to actual designs and artboards within the design. having something thats purely for organization is definitely a big help. The feature just came out a few days ago, and as someone who works with very very large design files, I am finding it useful so far.
