Every note is embellished with harmonic trills, throat gargles and tongue rolls. A unique concept, sweet but bluesey, of the simple, innocent diatonic harmonica.
I've been listening to this almost non-stop the last few weeks, trying to play harmonica and this guy is just a machine. It doesn't even sound like a harmonica at times, its so beautiful. Thanks for putting this up here so I can hear it away from home@
Thank you, I'm glad you like it. Gwen Foster was a master harmonica player. The above picture is of The Carolina Tarheels. I have a bunch of their videos made up, and Gwen Foster's playing is phenomenal on every recording. Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a great day, Brian
That's just about as sweet a-soundin' harmonica playin's I ever heard. Thanks so much. I have to learn the guitar part now, but I don't know anyone that'd try to match that harmonica.
Hello there! I'm very glad you liked it. No one could quite outdo Gwen Foster on the Harmonica. He was a master at that instrument. I'm glad you enjoyed this post, and I hope you have a great night, Brian
That's funny! Wow, no wonder his playing sounded so unique! I'm glad you enjoyed this post, and I thank you for stopping by and commenting. Hope you have a great day, Brian
You bet! I agree, no one I've ever come across has been able to quite top Gwen Foster. God truly blessed him with an incredible gift. I am going to be putting up some more songs with him playing as part of the Carolina Tar Heels. Be sure to check it out. Have a nice day, Brian
For u harp players, from a Harp-L post 5/3/12: To me it has no official name. Perhaps we should call it the Foster switch. I have only met two people who can do it, Joe Filisko and James Conway. Both say the same thing: put your tip of your tongue on the top cover plate just above the holes and apply light pressure. When the perfect pressure is achieved (if u are lucky) the middle of your tongue will spasm left and right rapidly, producing the sound.
This guy and Percy Spouse are the masters of pre war first position harmonica. God bless the humble harmonica players!
