    That's literally every Tool fan. We didn't plan on being here, but we're super grateful that we are.

    It's about his son, whose middle initial is H. It's about how becoming a father "kills" the person you were before, but he's changed himself and who he is before (I have died and will die, I don't mind) and it's okay that he's going to have to change for his son. The "snake" is Maynard's past, his rough childhood, and his fear that because of that he won't be able to be a good father. But as he spends time with his son, the "snake is drowned" and his fear fades and he is happy to be a dad. That's the basic meaning of the song. Love your reactions, dude :D

    My understanding of this song is that it’s about him facing the fear of being a father. He is torn between wanting to keep his self-interested life and wanting to be a father. By the end of the song he is saying he doesn’t mind “dying” in the sense that his old self has to die in order to be a father. That’s how I interpret it but somebody else might have better info.

    • @dynamite479
      @dynamite479 4 года назад

      Pretty accurate. I think there may be some comparison between his intentions of fatherhood and his own father. But it is about his son who’s middle name is H.

      That's pretty much it. The title is a reference to Maynards Heroin, H, addiction that he suffered from during that time. He had to overcome it be a good father. That's drowning the snake. The snake of temptation.

    H is Maynards sons middle name. “ my blood before me begs me open up my heart again” referring to his unborn son and how he will give his responsibility of parenthood his best. It’s hard to break down each lyric but the song is about his son and becoming a father.

    H is the singer Maynard’s child. My understanding of the song is that he wants to meet the challenge of bringing a new life into the world without letting “the snake” (his own abusive father) infect him and make him a bad father.

  • @simplelifedays3692
    @simplelifedays3692 Год назад

    He holds up his son and it's a mirror. The anger and abuse of his past is the snake. "I still feel you touching me, changing me. Considerately killing me"

    ""I don't mind"

    It's about Maynards son being born. So connected to his child but also understanding the older his son gets the closer Maynard is to dying.

  • @othellokinggodkiller6708
    @othellokinggodkiller6708 Год назад

    The song is about rebirth, in this instance due to his son, but in a broader sense it can also be interpreted literally as a mouse being killed by a snake and the mouse experiencing the state just before reincarnation, or rebirth. This imagery, of a mouse dying and being reincarnated, is being used as a comparison to the rebirths we experience in our lives.

    Even the most hardcore Tool fans don't know what the hell this song is about

  • @EvenGodsDie
    @EvenGodsDie 4 года назад

    The snake is his fear, that is trying to protect him by warning him how dangerous it can be, if he lets his guard down. His blood is his son/family begging him to let his guard down and trust them. They're both trying to help him, but if he is going to change, the old version of himself has to die... He breaks down crying, when he gives in and accepts that he needs to stop being afraid, and that willingness to change, is what drowns the snake/fear.

    Maynard name his kid Devo H. Keenan. The H. is the whole middle name. The song is about the father-son relationship, and possibly multigenerational. His father was Herbert as is he. So it could be him trying to deal with the cycle of abuse, and trying to break it.

    Think in terms of a relationship or a drug addiction. Their songs have multiple meanings but, at the end of it all, it truly is all in how you take it. This one is a doozy, I will say that. Most of their songs will not be completely understood after only one listen. I would like to take this moment to recommend the song Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Its far less cryptic, and I promise that it will leave you in sheer awe. Keep it up, my guy. You're doing just fine.

    Uhhhh my favorite Tool song. Well, one of. This song can ease you into A Perfect Circle, if you want to see some more Maynard, in a different light. That's what you should do next. Shout me out in your video for A Perfect Circle lol. 👉👉 It's good stuff.

    The frustration is real. Tool is one of those things where you need to look up some other shit just to better understand. Their songs are also up for interpretation in most cases. There's no real answer in most of their works. That's the beauty of it.

    This song is actually very simple.... he was abused as a child and he's scared he's going to treat his child the same, but as he looks into his kids eyes, he resists and there's hope. Or some shit like that lol

    If you chose to react to "lost keys/Rosetta stoned" I have a lyric video I made. Not sure if itll get you in trouble with copyright cops tho. Lost keys is like a universe building track that goes with the song, its imperative you do both.

    Tool has the type of lyrics you don't have to figure what he meant from them, you just have to figure out how they release to something in your life. Except for hush. Hush is an easy one up figure
