It is the best review on dismantling and assembly of N8 Nokia. I couldn't find better. In this video excellent light (it is very well visible hands of the author and a detail of the device), a close up and a pleasant and accurate voice of the author. I the first time disassembled old N8 Nokia. Many thanks for this video and greetings from Russia. God bless you !

I tried to disassemble my n8 to today and halfway through 2 little screw nuts in plastic casings fell out...i watched your video and you explained very clearly that the are the screw holders for the bottom cover...Excellent tutorial and high quality video!! Thumbs UP!

You are a savior...i accidentally put in my Lumia 920 micro SIM into my N8...followed your video and opened up my N8...got the SIM out and assembled it again...i had some difficulty in placing the two screw holders that take the initial two screws though...lucky i got them in and my N8 is also working as before...nothing broken...Thanks a lot!!

The battery of my N8 was finished. I ordered a new one and wanted to replace it. However it got swollen, and thus could not pull it out from its tab. I needed to disassemble the phone completely. Thanks to this great instruction I could do it! Thanks so much for the crystal clear instruction. It gives my N8 a second life!

My dear Friend. Thank You very much for teaching me how to fix my nokia n8 myself. I was not satisfied with the Nokia Assistance in São Paulo, Brazil. They inssisted that the main board was "dead" and had to be replaced. I just bought a new battery ( you tought me how to replace that) and as soon as I turned it on " VOILÁ", THE MAIN BOARD suddenly regained life! Some 3rd world technician pulled out the touch screen cable so it was not working. You tought me how to put that in place too; so I became a FAN! Thanks again! All the best!

Thankyou very very much for your helpful tutorial. After my N8 fell onto the floor the camera did not work anymore. Black or snowy screen. After disassembling and assembling, the camera worked again. Wonderful! Maybe it was a problem with contacts. All the other functions are working too. It saved me from buying a new camera! Thanks again.

Just wanna say thanks again, my N8 was disassembled for quite some time while I was waiting for sim slot from china and my friend did the soldering. All parts were mixed up (as always, didn't bother sorting / marking them ), no way I'd new what goes where to re-assemble without watching this video again.

Thank you very, very... VERY MUCH!!! This video really helped me, it was vital. In this moment I don't have the new battery yet and I hope when I receive it the phone will turn on normally. One thing I noticed is that you touched the circuits with the fingers and I did the same thing, it was very good to see the end of the video when you turned on the phone!!! I thought to take my phone to the authorized service but a long time ago I did it and in Mexico even the authorized technician stole you the parts. Again THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

  • @ApexFlynn

Had to open the phone up to retrieve a mini sim as I forgot which size sim it took, (having not used it in ages), from my Samsung S3...
Stupid mistake but it did work and I could send and receive texts. Obviously when I came to take the thing out, it just got further and further wedged inside the sim housing...
But, having your guide on here, made it pretty damn easy to open it up, retrieve the sim and put the phone back together again and it works!
Now I wish I'd managed to source a mini usb port as that thing hasn't worked in months but I think it may require removing and re-soldering?
I'm lucky I have another phone to use and this is just a backup though so not the end of the world.
Great guide. Slowly paced enough to almost keep up, (with a few WTF pauses due to fingers too big for this sort of delicate operation), and very well explained.
    Thanks a lot!

Just a quick thank you. The video pretty-much did what it said on the tin. The only problem I had (apart from spending 20 minutes fin ding a dropped screw!) was that pesky top cover. I tried the "tape trick" but no way would it move, so I had to prise it off causing a little damage. Anyway, all back together and working, so thanks again.

First of all - thank you! Second - I had to open almost the whole phone to get my battery out of it - it started to grow uncontrollably blocking the option to just pull it... So... if your N8 stops charging (or charges for 30 seconds just to be "dead" 2 minutes later)... might be a good indication your battery is plotting to kill you ;)

    Wonderful!
Although my N8 frame was slightly different (e.g. clips protruding over screws) I have been able to open it to extract some SIM remains from the slot.
I would say that it is best to leave the lateral screws in place and only loosen them just enough to remove the bottom cap.

Thanks, this guided me well disassembling my N8.
The upper part removal was very frustrating, mine held very strong, it took a few sellotapes, and eventually a stronger threaded tape to rip it out. Succeeded with several burst-type strong pulls.
I want to replace the SIM slot I broke... it sits there tight and I'm starting to come to conclusion it might be soldered there. Can I replace it myself with rather mediocre soldering gun? I've got rosin, tin and acid as well.

Watched your other video about how to change battery, but mine would not come out *at all*.
In the end, I found this video invaluable as I have just spent a few hours stripping down and rebuilding the phone just to get the battery out.
Just as well I did, as it has 'bulged' in the middle, hence explaining why it wouldn't just slide out.
Now It's all back together, no screws left at the end either, and it's up and running with a brand new battery inside, which slides in and out really easily :-)
Wonder how long the old battery was in that condition, even though it was still giving reasonable life for a phone that was purchased about 3-4 years ago?
Once again, thanks, and lovely close up video with easy to follow instructions. I have given thumbs up as you have provided essential assistance. I may have ended up breaking the damn phone in half had I continued trying to open it without your instructions.

Thankyou so much for this informative video & instructions, I never would have been able to fit a new housing without it. I do have a question though, my camera button (on side) and volume buttons aren't working - could I have refitted them upside down? There was a thing bit of metal stuck to the inside case on the old housing, and I didn't put it in the new housing - that was close to the camera lens area on top right of back cover. Any advice would be much appreciated, many thanks. Z
