I finally broke and bought the Series S. The struggling frame rate of my Xbone did me in. I’m glad to report I’m happy with my purchase and the optimized games run smooth as butter. Remember unless you have a monitor or a TV that’s 4K 120hz you won’t be able to take full advantage of the X’s power. Right now those TV’s cost more than the console so do the math
I got my kid the X, only bc it was $200 to "future proof" it. Nothing wrong with S, I wanted it originally [for him] but thinking TV cost always come way down, those 4K 120hz should be pretty cheap in a few yrs.
I don't disagree with the verdict of the video, but it doesn't apply to most countries. Most people reviewing the console live in developed countries. In developing countries these consoles cost $500 dollars (Series S) and $700 dollars (Series X) due to taxes and tariffs. When a console is so expensive in a market with not much disposable income, people prioritize price. The great misconception is that this console was designed for developed market gamers, it was made for developing markets which are finally having funds and disposable income which they can spend on luxury goods like the consoles. In these markets a Series X is just to expensive; but the Series S has the perfect price point. It becomes an affordable option and a better option, it's the first console many of these people buy; so they don't care about specs. It's what I did. I hope this gave you a new understanding on the topic.
You're right,t, in my country the xbox series s costs the equivalent of 550usd, and the xbox x series 700usd, something that I could possibly pay unlike the PS5 that costs 850usd
@@mistamaog Expansion card is USD 250 in my country. Series S is USD 400, Series X is USD 650, PS5 Digital only is 650, and finally PS5 with B-Ray Drive is USD 750.
yea, that's the only reason I'm thinking about getting an Xbox, can't currently afford the PS5 with the optical drive and would honestly still use my PS4, the only reason I want a Series S is to have a slice of next gen in my setup
@André Justo no it's not. It's designed for people that like having their games digitally. It's definitely not for a poor family if you have 350gb of usable space, and to expand you need to pay an extra $200...
The series S is awesome. I finally got mine the other day and I have no issues. The storage space isn't terrible if you're like me and don't need to have 25 different games installed. I just reinstall whatever I want to play, and have no issues. It runs great, very portable, and the controller feels great. People are too picky nowadays and seem to forget that gaming isn't a contest
Yeah I just got my Series S the other day and it works perfectly for me. I already have a PS5 and got the Series S for the Xbox exclusive titles like Halo and Flight Sim (which works seamlessly on the S). I couldn't care less if Master Chief's armor isn't glistening in 4k and 120fps. Is that really worth $200 in itself? Yeah the whole "you have to spend $200 more for something that might not even be noticeable depending on your setup" is pretty funny. Have fun fighting the bots and scalpers online trying to find a Series X a whole year after initial release. I'd rather spend the extra $200 on the external storage card.
I got some cheap 60 dollar 2 teribyte extension and it works fine for just about every games but the ones that are optimized for next gen I play on internal storage.
Why hasn’t anyone reviewing the Series S mentioning the fact that you can cold store next gen games on an external HDD?! Like, come on. You aren’t only subject to the memory card. Please stop forgetting that.
that will slow down you game load time , and basically make your console perform like the Xbox X ,! why bother buy a new console which on perform like the last gen ?
@@TELEVISIBLE the point is, store your games on HDD if you aren't using playing them or instead of deleting it just store them on HDD, I seriously don't get people put more than 5 games just sitting there without actually playing it nor finishing them. I normally play and focus a single game and when I finish or complete getting the trophies that's when I decided to either delete the game in order to save more space or store them on your HDD just in case and it's easy to transfer those files with a few minutes of waiting.
@@TELEVISIBLE how do you figure? You can transfer next gen games to external storage to STORE them, instead of deleting and redownloading games. Prior gen games will see no benefit from running in the internal ssd vs an external one.. they can be run from either space.

I love mine too! It's never have been a need for me to have 4k and idc and so does 120 fps. 60 fps 1080p, medium to ultra graphic is all I need to be happy. (I used to play on ps3 and switch a few month ago
Don't forget you can play current gen games off of an external USB drive, Also you can move your next gen games to that drive just not play them there. So You can transfer stuff off and back on when you are ready to use it and it takes much less time than downloading it again.
They've done a bad job of explaining it. the fact that isn't common knowledge (or if it is most people don't seem to talk about it) is very concerning to me. I mean it's a very simple fix to keep things cheap.
@@JohnDoe-yf9wk You've must have been living under a rock. Its been mention on countless websites, that you can play previous gen games off a external HDD/SSD. And even move Series S/X games to a external HDD/SSD and moving them back when you want to actually play them.
Despite people saying that they would prefer the XSX over the XSS, I am sticking with Series S. For me I play at 1080p and only play 1-2 games at a time, I am someone who is driven by story based games so graphics such as Ray Tracing has never interested me and I played all of WD: Legion without RT and it was still a ton of fun.
@@red2432 In select titles that does happen but in others the console can do 1080p/60. As said by many others if you want performance get the XSX, I am getting the XSS as its £200 cheaper and I don't need the performance.
The series S is for the casual gamer who plays a few games a year. Its for the people who just want something that plays games. They don't care about pixels, resolution, framerates, blah, blah, blah. They won't buy the expansion storage because they don't have that many games to play and swap. The biggest factor to this group of gamers is whether the system can play games, are the games fun, and how much does it cost. Series X is for the intermediate to hardcore gamer. These are the pixel peepers, the ones on the battlefield of the Console Wars, the ones who care about framerates. There are two market of gamers so Microsoft created two consoles for each market.
@@Swainosaurus. Not for all games though, only if the developer cares to do the extra work of lowering the resolution/graphical settings even more in order to allow ray tracing.
I was trying to get a series X for over a year, couldn't find one at retail price.. ended up just giving in and getting a series S. Pretty happy with my purchase, my monitor where I use my series S is actually 1440p so I get to see the series S at full potential. The #1 thing for me that is irritating is the storage space, literally 3-4 games and it's full. Then you ironically have to pay another 220 dollars to get the same storage space as a series X, at which point it costs more than a series X, and you might as well have gotten a series X. lol probably will still get a series X if they are ever in stock ever again.

I don't care what the game looks like as long as it plays well...regarding smaller drive It's actually helping me complete more games than I did before as I'm completing one at a time then deleting, Instead of playing many games and never finishing them. With limited space been carefully choosing my games and sticking to them.
Im coming from a Nintendo Switch so the Series S is the perfect choice for me. Anything will look and perform better than that. Also the Series S is the only one in stock
Yeah Series S is really the only one you can find and if you’re new to Xbox it’s perfect since you don’t have to worry about disc games that you would’ve had if you were a returning player
It’s true, even the S is a huge performance increase over the Switch 😆 And the fact that Nintendo misfired with the Switch OLED instead of finally coming out with a ‘Pro’ version is gonna cheese people off even more. People like me who have had enough of the Switch’s shit performance and are reluctantly looking for an alternative.
@@cetheral1881 my ps4 broke months ago so last week I went looking for a new ps4 and couldn’t find any that wasn’t already pre owned. Called GameStop and they has series s and bought it. I had no idea the series s was next gen so I lucked out.
I had both the series s and now the x, you’re not missing much unless you also splash on a new monitor/tv. Also storage is a issue if you want to have a lot of games but overall, I miss the s. Miss how small and sleek the s was tbh.
I personally think that the Xbox Series X is the more sensible option in the long run. It might be £200/$200 more than the Series S. But for with the 4K visuals, more storage space and being able to play disc based copies of games which will end up being cheaper and means you won't be stuck behind a digital paywall, it makes a lot of sense.
@@fire99xyz That's very true. I have picked up quite a few bargains by buying digital keys. Although I still generally find disk based copies to be much cheaper in general. For example I managed to buy the Master Chief Collection disc based copy for £10 and they were still charging £50 for the digital copy. I was also able to buy a disc based copy of Tomb Raider game for £16 and it whilst it was still being charged at £54.99 on the microsoft store.
@@Donald_Allan do you have any idea of any reputable game key sites? I've been looking into it but they all seem shady and a little scummy with customer support
It kinda amazes me how we are actually at the point of having a full digital system without discs. I knew it would happen but to me it just seems odd not having a disc drive, but at some point I’m sure they’ll be stopped all together
I just got an s and took the batteries out of the controller when it said it needs an update. N64 is the best and we need a place to stick the controller where audio is not being picked up.
Its a pretty silly thing at this point, as the second I plug in that disc I have to take a download the size of the entire game either way. They really should just switch to a formal where you get a little cheap sd card that basically says "I own the rights to the hardware version of this game, so I can A) sell it , B) install it on a different system some day. The console is going to have to download the entire game in an update anyways.
Series S is absolutely perfect. If I really need to I’ll just pick up a 70 dollar Samsung 500 gig SSD, not that huge of a deal. Hella excited to get into next gen in the first year this year!
Best option for expansion storage is the regular 1TB Sata SSDs at about $100/TB, and then get a Sata to USB adapter separately. Sometimes you can find M.2 NVMe drives for that price as well (I'm pretty sure there are also M.2 to USB adapters). Or if you really want every game on Gamepass, keep an eye on the Seagate External 8TB HDDs on Amazon, they go on sale for about $120 a couple of times a year.
@@toby7647 you can transfer the games bewteen ssd and the store on the xbox. It takes a max of 10 Minutes. So you can transfer it if you know tou want to play it soon
I'll be really fascinated to see the sales figures down the line of the S vs the X. I may be way off but I can see the S outselling the X globally, but perhaps not in Europe or the US
Well that's kinda obvious to expect. Series S will outperform the X easily since most of the people right now, and generally lowered developed countries cannot afford an X. And I honestly see no other reason to buy an X other than being 100% sure it will always deliver 60 fps to my games. I bought my S two days ago mainly because the X was sold out, but then also because it was so cheap. My priority in this gen is mainly high framerates and not resolution. I don't care if it goes to 1080p or whatever. I just want my damn 60 fps.
@@PrimyFritzellz speaking of third world countrys im from romania and I had to pay 1000 euros to get an series x, wich is more than an avarege paycheck.
I just bought Series S and I am quite happy with it as I play only few games at a time. It is compact so space is not an issue to keep your game area organized :)
No one NEEDS to buy the external ssd... it’s optional and not even a good option... it takes 4 -7 minutes to transfer games from an external ssd which u can get for cheap now. What Microsoft could do is have the console always on and make it so u can manage your games from your phone... so on your way home u could transfer a game to the internal ssd so by the time I get home I don’t have to wait.
Ive bought the proprietary ssd card not necessarily for extra space but rather due to it's ability to utilize the SSD card to reduce CPU overheads. Using what Microsoft is calling DirectStorage, developers on Xbox Series X (and soon, PC, as part of DirectX), developers can offload asset streaming CPU operations to the SSD, reducing the load on the CPU by a large amount, the additional space is an added bonus for me.
But you have to buy an external ssd especially for series s with 512gb (364+gb usable) goodluck downloading warzone and and coldwar to a tiny ssd ... I would rather buy external ssd than buying their memory card unless it will get cheaper
I see a lot of people cappin about casually walking into places and grabbing one. One guy said he walked into a best buy and picked one up and I know that was a lie because I work at a best buy and we only sell them online with in store pick up.
The lack of an optical drive is still a deal breaker for me. I have an expansive physical games library dating back to the original Xbox. The Series S simply doesn't have the means to play these games that I still enjoy.
@@TheOrange2341 to each their own I'm glad we have a ton of options to start out the console generation instead of waiting until half the generation's life cycle to get a smaller or more powerful version of the same console
If I'm buying the cheaper console it's kindda obvious I can't afford a lot of games. Series S is just perfect to me and I don't necessarily need the best version of Devil May Cry or any of the few games exclusively optimised for series X. Great video Kev, really comprehensive.
The thing is, if you on tight budget, should get Series X. Hear me out: Yes, it costs more money from the outset. -But you will probably buy one system for the whole generation. -You will be expanding storage in series S anyway as 350gb is laughable -instead spending on expanding the storage, with series X you will have more storage, 4k blue ray drive, better graphics and extra options. -you will be able to buy physical games which are cheaper and discounted sooner then digital releases So if you look at lifetime spend on a generation you will save more money and have better value for money with SeriesX. Just get some part time job for a month or for few weekends or save up for a little bit longer - games you want to play released sooner will be cheaper then as well ☺️
True! I'm on a budget as I pay off student loans so I've been using Game Pass and playing the free games from Games With Gold. I will once in a while but a $60 Switch game though as they're never on sale (or just $5 off once in a while). So the Series S looks like a great option for me. I may get it in a couple of months though as I still have my One.
Series S is the perfect option for people with a 1080p TV, especially if you have an old 3D TV many of those support a full 1080p120hz connection with PC and I'm betting they'd pair beautifully with Series S.
@@tomaszstarzZz Or you buy a ps5 DE and get psnow with ps+. Same GPU, same CPU, same RAM, same SSD in size and speed. All for $105 more dollars over series s with gamepass or $95 cheaper compared to series x. And then for the next month subscribe for the yearly options on psnow and ps+ and just pay a total of $120 even with the extra $20 you still save over $40 compared to gamepass ultimate for a year. Thats the better option if you are on a tight budget. You can hold out on expanding the SSD. You can even use a cheaper nvme m.2s combine them with a m.2 enclosure with usb 3.1 gen 2 for 10Gbps (1000MBps). This way you can still get fantastic loading from an external SSD for 8th gen games which you currently can't do with series x|s. You can get a external SSD of course but you are limited to 560MBps. MS only has 5Gbps USB ports while ps5 has 3 10Gbps USB ports across both DE and standard. More options and better prices for ps5 standard and DE. Ps5 DE is a much better option imo for the cheap gamer. 23 games free from just being a ps+ member in november. 20 from ps+ collection and 3 from instant game collection. Then you have over 800 games available on psnow. No need for an immediate solution for storage. Cheaper and faster solutions for external storage.
I’ve had the S for awhile now and just listened to the video again. My thoughts haven’t changed on the S. The little beast continues to occupy its space on the TV stand and when called upon to transport me to another universe, it has never failed to do so. The 4K on my S is no different from my 1X. Period! They look the same. Whether it’s upscale or native, I can’t tell. At this point, I don’t care. Yes, you can spend more (at this point, a LOT more from the prices some are charging) for the X, but unless you have a 120HZ TV, you’re not going to see or notice that much, if any, real advantage beyond initial storage. Undoubtedly, the X has a clear advantage. However, if your TV is 60HZ, then the S is a much better option. I think MS had to take that into account. Most people have 60HZ TVs. Why? Because, unless you have money to burn, people bought the less expensive 60HZ TVs. My 70” Hisense was bought on sale for $479 plus tax. If you want 70”+ at 120HZ, you would pay more than 4 times that! Realizing that reality, MS developed the S with people like me in mind. Between the upscaling abilities of the TV and the S, I get a game experience that’s just as good or close enough as on the X, without the bulk or overhead or price! Considering that I don’t live on my game system, I find the S is more than capable of providing a great gaming experience. If you have a 60HZ TV, don’t need the optical drive, are willing to buy the needed storage space, then the S IS the system for you. If you have a 120HZ TV, need the optical drive, have the money for storage expansion, space for the HUGE console or just want bragging rights, then by all means get the X, if you can find one at the retail price. Anyone who’s paid more than $499 for the X, all I can say is that you got taken! Undoubtedly, the X is a good system BUT it’s not THAT good! The S is more than powerful enough to do the job. If you want the X BUT haven’t bought one, take a look at the videos comparing the 1X, S, and X or just the ones comparing the S & X. Take a close look and ask yourself one question, "Can I see any real difference?" Now ask yourself, "If I do see any appreciable difference, is it enough to spend hundreds of $$$ for that difference?" Unless your bank account is brimming over with $$$$$ then you probably won’t get the X. The S, is easier to find for the retail price of $299 (keep checking Best Buy) and will be a console capable of playing any game made for the XBOX game system. For the record, I had thought I was going to get the X, but bought the S instead and held my nose. To my complete surprise, getting the S turns out to have been the better choice. Horizon 4 looks just as good on my S as it does on my "real" 4K 1X but loads much faster. If fact, gaming on my S is better if for no other reason than games load near instantaneously! I have all the Halo games and they all look and play just like they should! No matter what game I play, they all look great! And all on a 70” TV. So, what did I lose by going with the S? Nothing, but I saved a boatload of money! Some of that saved money I invested in much needed storage space. Nirvana!
True ...he doesn't mention the wait for an x now...price at this point is around 800 if not on list..120fps 1080p is good ..just get a monitor with good refresh....games are better up close on a 27" monitor..32" tops..70" is for movies bud..
S gives you everything X does except for Resolution, SSD space, and some of the backwards compat bells and whistles. Series S isn't as amazing as the X, but it is still amazing.
The upsides that the X provides isn't worth to the extra $200 IMO. I use the S for the exclusive titles as I already own a PS5. And having not owned an Xbox since the 360 which I sold in 2014 I had no physical media that made having a disc drive necessary.
@@TXnine7nine The GPU alone is worth $200. Now add another 500 GB of PCI-E Gen 4 x2 of SSD and 6 GB of RAM. like you, the optical drive is also worthless for me. If I could get the same upgrade for a PC at that price it would be an absolute no-brainer. I didnt get an X because I already have a high-end PC for playing PC and PS "exclusives" as well emulation, etc.
Right now the logical equivalent of the Series S CPU would be a Ryzen 7 2700X for about $220 and Radeon RX5500 for $150, and that's just the starting point for a PC build. With Series S you get that and 10GB high speed RAM, a high speed 500GB SSD, full RDNA2 support, and an ultra small form factor case. The full PC build to match Series S specs would cost over $600.
@@swapnilgohil7280 The CPU in Series X is almost exactly the same as Series S (just clocked 5% faster). The GPU is 3X more powerful. Series X is a 52CU GPU vs. the $580 RX6800 at 60CU, so the Series X GPU would be worth $500, plus the $220 CPU. The System RAM in Series X is way faster than anything you can buy, so a very rough equivalent with just "decent" System RAM in a PC will be $80. Then there's the $120 1TB SSD, a $60 Motherboard (The Ryzen 2700 actually comes with a Heatsink so that cost is saved), $40 PSU, $20 Case Fan (that is a pretty nice fan on the X) $30 Bluray, a $50 Case, and because PC GPUs don't ship with a cable you'll need to add a $20 48Gbps HDMI2.1 cable... The total is $1,140 to build a PC equivalent to Series X right now, using mostly bargain bin parts, and the closest equivalent GPU doesn't really exist yet (you could substitute with a 3070 if you know how to run a purchasing bot). And you still need to buy a mouse and keyboard but I'll just assume most people have that already. (BTW everyone definitely should get a Mech keyboard, I recommend Cherry Red because for me a low weight keystroke reduces hand fatigue in gaming, though for typing I use Cherry Blue.)
Honestly for me Series S appeals to me. Cuz I'm a PS5 guy, but I also don't want to miss out on some of XBOX's exlusives (12 Minutes, Avowed, upcoming Bethesda titles, etc.) Also, gamepass. So that $300 price is pretty perfect and I don't really care about the power differences when it won't be my main system. Edit: I say this like I can afford the two at the moment lmao
yes that’s why i’m getting the series X instead of the S bc to get a good expanded gigs you spend around $100+ which comes out to $400 i would rather spend extra money for the extra features.
For a PS fan Xbox Series S is not a bad choice. I like the fact that you can have a cheaper system that can do almost the same things as the more expensive system. But for a less expensive system you have to secrifice the storage witch 500 GB (300GB) is not a lot. So I would go for Xbox series X but the S is not a bad console. Great review Kevin! Keep it up.
Look don't expect the series x to be 4k and don't expect the series s to be 1440p that's just Microsoft's targets what happens in real world is a different story I expect games on series s over time to be dropping well below 1080p unless developers wanna hold back their games , that series s gonna be the worst thing to happen to the industry
Really good breakdown man, just subscribed I'm getting the series x for myself and also have a series s preordered for the kids for Xmas, sounds like this should work well Hard drive space is limited but I have a 1tb 86oEvo ssd that I turned into an external and going to use it for additional space
It's also the first iteration of this particular style of console, give it a year or two the "Pro" version usually addresses most of the major issues down the track
One important distinction, 4k textures ≠ anything to do with screen resolution. Texture resolution is not the same as how many pixels are outputted to your screen. For example, you'd still notice a huge difference between 1080p textures to 4k textures on a game even on a 1080p display. So if they cut out larger textures on Series S, it's not just a resolution hit, it's also a big quality hit to the in game assets.
If the LODs are perfectly optimized then you should have more texture resolution with the 4K screen, but games as they are today don't have anything approaching correct 4K textures, hopefully all the high speed SSD and texture compression stuff will fix that.
Yeah not to mention the S runs back compatible games using the x box one s versions so resolution can dip to the same as an x box one. I returned mine because all the back compatible games looked so bad on my 4k tv
I bought the series S a few months back, it’s a great console but the storage space is honestly such a hassle. After debating whether to buy extra storage or just swap to the X, I went with the X and can’t really recommend the S if you play a lot of games. If you’re a casual every now and then gamer, then sure the S is great!
I was honestly against diskless but I’m enjoying my Series S. Also I bought the 1TB expansion drive, which basically brings it up to the Series X like you mentioned. The portability of the S is also definitely a factor for me. Great video!
I believe you can use an external drive, not for playing next-gen games, but for storing them and then being able to quickly move games back and forth - Certainly quicker than redownloading all the time.
yes, I am also doing with series x and it's a perfect way. Transfer is fast and just not a big problem, I use a normal usb external hd I was using before with Xbox One.
When he said "it's really 364gb vs 802gb" I felt that. Omw to best buy to dish our $220 for an SSD memory card 1Tb. These are up to 9x father than your regular HDD external hard drives.
Most people should get a series x for the long term. That disc drive is enough of a reason. Being able to buy physical disc copies at a much lower price than digital, being able to share discs between people as well as being able to sell your games after if you dont want it anymore is huge. Series S is honestly too niche. Do not get it as you will likely regret it in the long run.
Xboxlive marketplace is far and beyond better than any physical purchase. The amount of discounts cant be compared. You can get Brand new games for 29.99 sometimes 19.99 a month or 2 after release. Stores dont do that
I have a series s and because of the silicon shortage and a giant battle to get a series x, ill stick with the S for now and I have no issues with it, however in a year or two ill debate getting a ps5 or series X as games evolve and next gen games are cheaper but nevertheless I needed a next gen upgrade from my 2013 xbox one so its a great step
The SSD difference is what really drove it home for me. I dont' think I'll ever truly need to expand the Series X while I would probably have to do that with the S, so the total cost with the X would practically speaking be lower.
We have “cubbies” AND lockers at my firehall.. I always feel like a small Child when I say I left something in someone’s cubby. It will never feel otherwise haha
I like the Series X as it has a disc drive, so I can continue to buy physical copies of the game and also use the other Xbox game CDs I already own, the extra power is an added bonus..
Excellent points, I always knew the bigger unit was the better value overall, but the point you made about the Series S being a great intro console to get your feet wet is very valid. I personally don't plan on getting either console right now because of a lack of exclusives, but I like the option of having a disc drive and NOT having to pay a monthly service for games I already own.
I dont think its really that big of a deal.. if you are watching a review from an american, then expect the review to be based on the american market. If you wanted to get the most accurate reviee for your region, watch a review from your region or just do your own research. However, a simple line saying that prices may differ dependent on area wouldn't be that much to ask for, but still not that big of a deal either way.
I am saying this because in a lot of places there are not a lot of reviewers so is common for people to search other reviewers that are mostly from other countries
If you are in the US reviewing a product region made for the US, you should probably focus on US prices and value….the other countries have people capable of doing the same for their respective country
I got a Series S about 3 weeks ago and I like it. The storage really isn’t that big of a deal, the loading times are great, and it pushes 120hz 1080p. I’m not picky about the resolution so that’s fine by me. My only con about it is there’s no disc drive. Overall, I’d recommend the Series S.
Not sure how he can feel that storage size is a deciding factor since all next gen machines have horrible tiny storage. These sizes were small even for last gen. If you upgrade the series s storage, it works out to $20 more than the Series X. Where you get More Storage, the Small Form Factor and 1080@60fps!
at that point why not just buy the series x? it's 20 bucks less with almost 3 times the power, which means you can play it way faster in 1080p. AND you have the option to expand to 2T storage down the line.
@@teffry05 I really doubt about 5T cards given how there's no 5TB nvme ssd for pc even. and anything above 1T is gonna be even more expensive than the series x console itself.
This was helpful information. I was struggling on deciding if I get S because I’m getting the PS5, or just go to full X. Kind of think the S will get discontinued eventually, making it a cool console to own as well. Thanks!
I got the S today and honestly it’s not bad. I can definitely see a difference in graphics it’s just annoying that I can’t use any of my disks now or ray tracing. But overall I think I’m gonna like it a lot
Well I already traded in and got rid of most of my physical games plus in my current setup I do not have the room for a Series X, so I think I am going to stick with getting a Series S

The X is still going for about 900. I just got the S bundle for 400. Adding the expansion storage will put me around 600. Still much cheaper then an X currently.

Hey umm don't expect to hit 2k often the series s runs most games at 1080p and sometimes drops even below like yakuza like a dragon runs at 900p. Gears 5 occasionally dips to 720p and can go back up to 1440p but its often gonna drop noticeably. And this is on day one. Sure you might like the console now. But 2-3 years from now will it hold up? Kind of a gamble.
I feel like the difference isn't that noticeable right now just because games aren't as crazy right now. I feel like as developers take more advantage of how powerful the X is, the difference will become more noticeable.
@@short-eu7bs I played rainbow six siege on the series s & the graphics were fuzzy so i told my brother to play rainbow six siege on his ps5 so i could compare it because i thought i was tweakin.. The graphics were so much better on the ps5 compared to the series s, now keep in mind the game is optimized for both consoles so it shouldn’t have any difference in graphics, both 1080p 120fps. Anyways, i copied his brightness level in game & his monitor settings because i thought that was the problem to as why the graphics were fuzzy. I was wrong, nothing changed. The series s will get you into next gen games but it’s definitely not a next gen console if the graphics are fuzzy at 1080p & it’s not just that one specific game, it was also call of duty, halo & many more.
I feel like the biggest crutch the series S has at launch is the storage. The fact that it costs $220 to expand it by a terabyte at launch, we can extrapolate that the 500gb you lose is worth about $55 in itself. Right off the bat, that is value added, regardless of whether you care about a disc drive or 4k. When you have all of the sudden reduced the price difference by 25%, its kind of hard to still consider the S, at least for me. I am not super worried about 4k, though I do care somewhat about the disc drive. But my bigggest problem day one with the S will be the neutered storage.
Always had PS and well even having a PS5 I wanted to see what XBOX can do and get into MS Games... I bought the Series S which is now hooked to my living room TV and I have to say ... WELL DONE MS!!! Series S together with Gamepass is fire! I play more XBOX atm then I use my PS5... And for sure not my last MS console!
OK, so, valid point on the $220 memory card upgrade. A point not covered is this: a 2Tb SSHD or SSD in a usb3 enclosure will give you that space you need for around $100 - $200.
i got both ps5 and xbox s x and i like the xbox better, you cant save your ps5 game date to a usb they force you to buy ps plus, xbox is free dont have to buy nothing and you get alot more games on the xbox. returning ps5.
in purchasing the series s, i factored in microsofts payment plans. It very closely mirrors the current plans that iphones follow which i concluded will be a shorter console life cycle. as of right now, there are only a handful of tv's that support 4k gaming at 60 fps and i'm a monitor gamer. i am not spending upwards of 700+ for a gaming monitor in addition to my 500 dollar console when the tech in the games simply are not there yet. I do plan on upgrading to the next iteration of the xbox when it comes out in 2-3 years when everything is caught up. does that make sense?
Yeah and remember in around 3 years they might probably do a PS5 pro and an upgraded XSX just like PS4 pro and X1X after 3 years into their life cycle. Right now Microsoft could just wait and see how the Series S goes and see if it needs an improvement
It feels like there wont be another reiteration this gen.Last gen they made pro version due to support for 4k.Theres not enough support for 8k atm or even near future for microsoft/sony to make enhanced versions again

I bought a Xbox x for $230 so idc about frame rates

The series S is awesome. I finally got mine the other day and I have no issues. The storage space isn't terrible if you're like me and don't need to have 25 different games installed. I just reinstall whatever I want to play, and have no issues. It runs great, very portable, and the controller feels great.

They already have that you can do it on the app, they even added remote play so you can play and use your Xbox on your phone anywhere you are.
Already done. You can manage games from the Xbox app.
But you have to buy an external ssd especially for series s with 512gb (364+gb usable) goodluck downloading warzone and and coldwar to a tiny ssd ... I would rather buy external ssd than buying their memory card unless it will get cheaper

I play mostly digital. But have the full 4K everything my setup so series X it is. But series S I’m gonna get as well for my other room
Hear me out:
Yes, it costs more money from the outset.
-But you will probably buy one system for the whole generation.
-You will be expanding storage in series S anyway as 350gb is laughable
-instead spending on expanding the storage, with series X you will have more storage, 4k blue ray drive, better graphics and extra options.
-you will be able to buy physical games which are cheaper and discounted sooner then digital releases
So if you look at lifetime spend on a generation you will save more money and have better value for money with SeriesX.
Here me out. $400 + 20 for the first month and you avoid much of the caveats of the cheaper series s while also not sacrificing any next gen features.

The lighting in this video absolutely incredible 👍.
Isn't it? Totally pro, I agree.
Appearance wise I thought I wouldn't like the series x but I love staring at the monolith towering up its very imposing in a satisfying way.
Nirvana!
Agreed brother
True ...he doesn't mention the wait for an x now...price at this point is around 800 if not on list..120fps 1080p is good ..just get a monitor with good refresh....games are better up close on a 27" monitor..32" tops..70" is for movies bud..

Doesnt series s do 120hz on 1080p
S gives you everything X does except for Resolution, SSD space, and some of the backwards compat bells and whistles. Series S isn't as amazing as the X, but it is still amazing.
And it's affordable to a lot of people. In my opinion it was a big boss move by Microsoft.
English Lives Matter Not in Afghanistan
The reality is not that Series S is bad.
It's that Series X is too damn good.
720p
@@budthecyborg4575 now make a Xbox series x equivalent pc

So that $300 price is pretty perfect and I don't really care about the power differences when it won't be my main system.
Edit: I say this like I can afford the two at the moment lmao
Plus, by the time you fill up your storage on the series x the ssd may become somewhat cheaper depending on how many games you want
yes that’s why i’m getting the series X instead of the S bc to get a good expanded gigs you spend around $100+ which comes out to $400 i would rather spend extra money for the extra features.

The series S is definitely not for me, but I can see why some people would be willing to buy it.

I just think that reviewers should start considering other countries that the MSRP is way higher and the average income is lower
What would you like them to say about it?
They should probably say that depending on the MSRP of the console on your region it can be a better investment than the other
I dont think its really that big of a deal.. if you are watching a review from an american, then expect the review to be based on the american market.

If the S had a blu ray I would get it. That's definitely a deal breaker for me unfortunately, since with my current tv the S would be great
You can get the blu-ray app on the series s
i got both ps5 and xbox s x and i like the xbox better, you cant save your ps5 game date to a usb they force you to buy ps plus, xbox is free dont have to buy nothing and you get alot more games on the xbox. returning ps5.
The size of the S is very VERY impressive. I own an X. Will eventually snap up an S as well. For travelling.
Get a life

in purchasing the series s, i factored in microsofts payment plans.
@@arnabsaha8761 i don't think any company in today's day and age is not going to release a new product for over three years. earnings expectations and shareholders will force a new product. not sure an increase in a product's life cycle is a good business model esp in tech
@@fatdarryl3586 I mean we will have to wait and see if they release new "8k" consoles a few years later but its highly unlikely
@@arnabsaha8761 i dont even think 8k but a budget 4k model just like the xbox one s. in which case series s owners can 299 now and perhaps another 299 for a brand new console equal if not better than the series x two to three years later and only pay 100 extra. you feel me
To add-ons more thing to your comment about 4K vs 1440p. It also depends on the user's visual acuity. I am 68, had cataract surgery, and am nearsighted ( because I read mainly). So 1440p is likely good enough for a gamer such as myself. I'm probably a rare bird🤓
Would be great to have if the robots and scammers didn't get to them first
