I was born and raised here. I left after High School graduation to enter the USAF.
Racine has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1836, Racine has grown into a vibrant city with a mix of modern amenities and historical landmarks.
I visit some of Racine's most popular attractions, including the beautiful Wind Point Lighthouse, the oldest operating lighthouse on Lake Michigan, and the Racine Art Museum, showcasing contemporary and modern art. I also take a stroll through the historic districts, admiring the well-preserved Victorian homes and learning about the city's past as a center for industrialization and innovation.
There are golf clubs and several very large marinas.
I recommend taking a drive through downtown Racine (from the South end). Pershing Park and the marinas are to your right where lake Michigan is. Take a drive or walk down there. It is beautiful. There are restaurants and places to eat.
Then get back on Main Street and head North for about 1. mile and you come to the Racine Zoo to your right.
After leaving the Zoo, get back on N. Main Street and continue driving north for about three miles until you come to the Windpont Lighthouse which will be on your right on Lighthouse Drive.
When in town, check out Horlick Dam and nearby Quarry Lake Park. They are on the west side of town.
Wisconsin has more than 15,000 lakes and 84,000 miles of rivers and streams. It is a beautiful State and home of the Greenbay Packers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Milwaukee Brewers
Racine has many beautiful parks. (Racine knows how to do parks). It has plenty of beach areas and plenty of fishing in Root River and in Lake Michigan.
Racine is known for its Kringles. When in town you MUST check out O&H Danish Bakery on Washington Avenue and try one of their Kringles. The Pecan Kringle is my favorite. (You can order online and they ship fresh anywhere in the United States)
Racine also boasts a thriving culinary scene, with a range of local restaurants offering delicious cuisine. I sample some of the best food the city has to offer and learn about the local food culture from the friendly residents.
I had a great and happy childhood there.
Join me on this exciting adventure as I take you around my hometown.

Ron, I too went to McKinley Jr. High and Washington Park. I also joined the Air Force directly after graduation in June 1977. What year did you graduate from Park? I still return to Racine 2 times a year to visit my family, including my now 92 year old mother on Cleveland avenue.

Hi! I graduated from Park in 1971 and entered the Air Force one month after graduation.
I have two sisters still in Racine and cousins. The rest of my siblings are scattered all over the country.
I have many childhood friends still there.
My brother moved from Racine to Kenosha.
I try to get up to Racine at least twice per year.
My parents are buried in Graceland.
Really a pleasure to meet you, Robert.
      (My fathers name was Robert)

Racine, and in general, Wisconsin are very beautiful. Full of rivers and interior lakes. There are areas within Racine that are very bad. They do not call Racine “little Chicago” for nothing. I did not show it but Racine has a prison right smack in the middle of the city. I love visiting but I could not live here. 😊 🙏

I used to live on Harbridge Ave which is about a block east of Parking High. Now I live on Oak CT off the banks of the Root River near Island Park. Racine is beautiful and has a lot of natural green scenery.

Racine is beautiful. The combination of Lake Michigan an Root River gives it personality. I know Oak CT near Island Park. I have fond memories as a kid in Island Park, Lincoln Park, Pershing Park, and Sanders Park. I left Racine after graduating from Washington Park High School in 1971. I played JV and Varsity Basketball there. One of my team mates was Gary Cole (Abdul Qadir Jeelani) we were childhood friends. Abdul Qadir Jeelani went on to become an NBA basketball player and played in the Italian league. He passed away in Racine in 2016. Thanks for stopping by!

Wow! So many picturesque views and the drone footage was gorgeous! It was hilarious to me when you were talking about the short cut you used to take to high school. I was going to begin my comment asking if that's the one you walked in the snow up hill and back downhill in every day, there and back - but I didn't have to because you did it for me. LOL

While Racine has undergone a renovation, it is still bad and raggedy within the inner city. Yep, that was the bridge I walked to school each day in winter uphill both ways. When the river froze over, it provided a fast and convenient way to get to school. ❤️ U

What an interesting drive down memory lane. I don't know what years you lived in Racine, but we might have lived in the same house at different times! My mom & I lived in an upper flat on Jones Street from about 1956 - 1959. I'm not positive of the address, but it was on the East side of the street. I'm guessing it was 245 or 257 Jones St from what I can recall. I was a toddler, so not old enough to have explored the area the way you did, but it was interesting seeing it from the perspective of someone who did. Thanks for sharing this!
