The color of your eggs remind me of when my grandmother used to do Easter eggs in onion skins and they would turn out the most beautiful brown and they would look like wood. Gorgeous
Love the eggs. We hope to get to a 9 with our marans. I'm going to bring in a batch of eggs. Speckled olive and more green in the Cayuga those are my immediate projects to work on so doing mini coops
I don’t remember a specific one but they are in all my farm tour and chicken videos;) their eggs and offspring are on our FB page Paragon Ridge Hatchery;)
i tried incubating and first i did not succeed because my incubator was bad. but i tried again with a new 100$ incubator and i hatches them now i’m obsessed with trying even though i’m in a area we can’t have them. and when good eggs break that are fertile you can put them in their egg again and incubate it
Hi I’m Mike at Backyard Barnyard 549 Loved your video on Black Copper Maran hatching eggs. Little over a year ago I ordered (and made a video about) some BCM eggs from Georgia and put part of them under a Buff Orpington hens (Mama Buff). Out of the 12 that I received, I dropped one and one fully developed but didn’t hatch. I am currently hatching some Silky eggs I got from Pennsylvania (video to come).
I can’t dry hatch because I live in a very dry climate. On average it’s 24% humidity. In the Summer it’s average 17% humidity, which I feel is that we’re lucky just to get some…😊
Hey Richard!! Just started selling them this past spring;) they are on strike right now but hope to see some eggs again in a month or so;) you can follow our hatchery I do on Facebook at Paragon Homestead Hatchery. We are just south of Glenpool and Bixby.
Black copper Maran are both of the eggs;) the ones from Luke are in the bator already and the ones from Pennsylvania are in my hand in the main photo;)
@@sharaazsalam4227 no it’s how the breeder works on their standard of perfection, including culling for darker color eggs down the line. There is a color chart from Marans club of America that you can look up to see the color number. I looked for 2 years for a #8 in Oklahoma and was not successful so I had to import eggs;)
And yes, Al studies show their shells are thicker and increasing humidity is best for Marans. Dry hatching isn’t for everyone it depends on your climate and incubator;)
13 hatched. I have learned a lot since then about special needs of dark eggs:) I now place them in the brooder in an upright tray, I do not leave them laying on side. That has been helpful. Also, if no pop by day 21, you can make a small hike in the egg cell with a disinfected screw, just barely through the shell and white membrane. If it pips into the cell, this gives them more air to hatch.
@@ParagonRidgeRanch do you mean the hatch tray? The brooder is where you keep chicks after hatch 😊 I got 10 out of 13 on my darkest doing the dry hatch method but my other bcm hatched the same though
He sent me 28 and 14 hatched. So 50% I was very happy with the hatch!! I’m still in love with these birds but I am making changes, there is a local breeder who has darker eggs and laying ages start at 4-6 months. Theses from these eggs all didn’t start until after 9 months. I need to breed that out of them as well as breed in darker genetics. Still highly recommend these eggs, still very happy with these birds
I hope you will have good hatch rate with these. My last eBay order of eggs (Bresse) was disappointing. I ordered some this year from my local poultry. They only fifer the French copper Marrans a few weeks a year… can’t wait to get them in …2 weeks!!!
I agree. She could have gotten a much better hatch rate if she wasn't messing with them so much and flipping them all around. 14 out of 48 isn't anything to brag about. That's horrible even for Marans. The reason the 1 broke is because she was pulling it out of the hole instead of taking the lid off.
Would you mind sharing the farm you bought them from I'm in Virginia so not a terrible shipping distance and I really want more copper Marans I currently have just one beautiful maran laying hen. but have struggled to find decent maran hatching eggs.
Both, awesome source but all I have referred state they don’t cell direct anymore due to demand and all their eggs are eBay sales only now. You can email me for mor info;)
Good afternoon I’m loving ur page. I’m new to hatching in Ocoee Fl. I am trying to build my own styrofoam incubator and for my first try I would like to do the dry hatching. I don’t have FB to follow only YT and IG any available advice 😊
I know!! They were just put outside last week! They are doing amazing! I have a follow up video coming out in the next few weeks;) it discusses shipped eggs and these beautiful babies that hatched;)
Hi Tom, not yet:) I have only one that just started laying this week ;) As I test fertility and work towards the darkest eggs and BCM SOP, I will then sell them:) It will be local to the Tulsa Area
Omg Chrissy I'm so sorry I almost cried Very beautiful eggs can't wait to see how darker you get them I didn't know you could order eggs ready to go.in the inhabited You ever talk to Jeff from Bobblehead eggs he's got some beautiful eggs Good luck Sweetie
Why in Gods name are ya moving them around so much showing the eggs. the more ya move and jostle them; less likely to hatch. I unbox mine let them rest 24 hours and only move them into the incubator. You amaze me.
