I’m old and have used two Brooks Professional saddles for over thirty years. I sold one on a bike but have retained the other. Neither has ever been comfortable for me though they look beautiful. More relevant here is the weight. This chap rightly suggests a titanium seatpost for your Brompton. When I bought mine online for £53, the “official” one was £225 I think. Mine has been trouble free and has a beautifully engineered clamp assembly. At the same time I bought a used but visually mint titanium railed saddle. It weighs 198g. My Brooks weighs 604g. For a machine designed to be carried, that is significant. This saddle is more comfortable for me too.
Ergo grips make by far the biggest difference to daily riding…they should be the number one upgrade, imo.

I have 3 modifications on my Brompton I could not live without:
    1. Ergon grips GP1
    2. Brooks Cambium saddle
    3. 44T chainring has been heavenly!

Trim about 5mm off one of the bromptification hinge handle threads and you can fit the original tool kit in the frame. Done that on mine.

Mine are with a extra bolt and a stop inside (preventing the bolts to be totally unscrewed, and lost!), but still with room for an original tool kit set in front?

And I have sent a really serious complaint directly to Brompton, concerning the small and mostly useles pieces of clear tape on my bike. The factory clearly knows about these week spots, after all those years of production, but have decided not to do anything at all about it, just giving a sign, that we know this may become a problem!! I gave my brand new, flamepainted LightweightH6LXBrompton an auto polish all over, and by that I could see, that after only - two folds, the tape below my chain had been - nearly worn through to the paint, from that!! Luckily, also as a first I had ordered a full set of protective carbon plates for my bikes frame (all those types I could find for Brompton, with double sided tape) and a protection against cable-wear, bolted on my fork. I have also sewn a leather protection both on my frame and on the stem post, to protect it during handling, from scratches. I also ordered an extremely/absurdly expensive Vincita pouch for my one folding pedal! ;-)

Helicopter tape works great. A small roll ($10) goes a long way, but yeah, this could be addressed by Brompton.

@@kgilliagorilla2761 Yes, but it is mostly like the Factory tape, and I do trust a carbon plate more 😄!
Though Brazilian, "Chrisbybike" had at one time got a plate on her frame which was too thick and hindered the gear function, on top of it! Finn. Denmark

I have just changed to - much larger easy wheels of a 10 cm diameter (+ a new telescopic axle with a carbon center tube!), and I have changed my seatpost, which was sold from new to me in Scandinavia, as a long 600 mm version, to the shorter, standard lenght of 535 mm, black seatpost from titanium (for a try but it functions fine (Though being a little too short!) and may be put into my B&W box, without removing the saddle and pin?), and from China, for a similar price as an original, standard seatpost. And I have changed to a lighter carbon handlebar and a titanium cranc, with Ceramic balls (Plus all the titanium bolts and parts I have been able to find, also the bolt on top of the stempost for holding the handlebar!). My Lightweight has mudguards (I'm a rainy Dane!) and I found out that the original metal clamps, for the original titanium struts on my mudguards, actually weighed a "lot", so I have changed to some Chinese, similar parts (with bolts included) made from carbon, with also a small weight saving (China). And I have found a nice J.K. headset, to be changed when I get the time! For now my Brompton weighs 9,35 kilos, still with the original handlebar, mudguards and saddle. Finn. Denmark 😁

    • @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188
      @finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 2 года назад

And I need my 6 gears, so though I might be tempted by the new, full titanium version, I'm not really that much! But maybe a new titanium H stem post, also painted flaming yellow as on my bike, but from China, as it weighs much less than the original post.

Hey Sahil, I have recently bought a Brompton C Line for myself in India. I would love to upgrade my Brompton as suggested in your video but I would take sometime to do it as it needs some extra money to invest. However, first thing I want to do without further delay is to save my bike from cable scratches. I have observed that the cable has started leaving scratches on the frame within a month. Please help me with the solution. Many thanks in advance.

I would like to know the answer to that question too.
Bromptons made before 2007 were not assembled with a system to lock the rear triangle frame to the seatpost, because with a lock up system folding takes more time.
I wonder if a part to add to a ‘before 2007 frame’ does exsist.

In my home, Denmark, we most certainly have a large net of paved passes, only for bikes, so I doubt very much that the UK is able to show something/anything similar? Even across the harbor in CPH and along the Motorway, on a bridge, we have passes only for bikes and pedestrians! And a cross-town Speed-way, intended only for bikes!

    • @robcherry6734

Sorry, here in NL we have a fantastic network of segregated, fully surface bike lanes, not sure where you are basing this statement? Roads in the UK are the worst they've been in my lifetime, I certainly wouldn't ride my Brompton on most of the urban roads there.
