Something that my teacher said that really helped me understand the difference between bar and line graph is that bar graphs are for qualitative data, whereas line graphs are when both the data points that are being graphed are quantitative

that's a really good tip, my teacher told us to plot with a bar graph whenever there's two or more subjects to compare without time and to use a line graph whenever there's time involved in the data
