I think this is the first time I see RUclips reactors reacting to Experiment IV and it's such a blessing. What I love most about this specific Kate Bush video is how it perfectly illustrates what Kate narrates in the lyrics. It's a perfect marriage between the lyrics and the video. Also, Kate Bush herself directed this music video. Well, all of her videos starting with Hounds of Love have been directed by Kate herself. Thank you for this great reaction and hope to see more Kate Bush.

Not 100% right, that she directed all videos. About "Cloudbusting", wikipedia tells us "The music video, directed by Julian Doyle, was conceived by Terry Gilliam and Kate Bush as a short film.", which makes that one a gem as well!

Great song and very cool video. One small correction, the lyric doesn’t say “stench” but says “we won’t be here to snitch,” meaning that the noise kills those working on it so there’s no one to explain the origin of the deadly sound.

An interesting fact was that this music video was never shown on the BBC programme "Top Of The Pops" because it was felt to be too violent

Dawn French of French & Saunders fame played the short haired blonde scientist and that was Del Palmer, bassist and then Kate boyfriend strapped in the chair. Kate doesn't get enough credit for being an incredible story teller.

And the “evil general” who orders the plan was played by Peter Vaughan, a noted British actor probably best known to younger viewers as elderly, blind Maester Aegon Targaryen in Game of Thrones. The professor who reluctantly leads the research team is Richard Vernon, another well-known, longtime British actor who played in Gandhi among a million other films.
Kate had awesome connections! If I could have been her friend at any time in her career, I would have jumped at the chance. 😀

Good one - I've never seen that video: apparently it was banned from UK TV at the time because it was too scary.
    Dawn French (blonde scientist)
    Hugh Laurie (young scientist)
    Richard Vernon (old scientist)
    Peter Vaughan (general)
Paddy Bush (Kate's brother - not sure where he is in the video)
    Del Palmer (victim)
Here's another video with Hugh Laurie (and John Malkovitch!) in it - Annie Lennox's Walking On Broken Glass: ruclips.net/video/y25stK5ymlA/видео.html

Ah, sweet, brilliant and quirky Kate! 🥰 One of my all-time favourite artists! The entire album where this song is found, "Hounds of Love", is superb and along with "The Dreaming" my favourite Kate Bush album. And by the way, having a huge crush on Kate is perfectly natural! 😄

The scariest part is that it's BASED on truth! As is Cloudbusting which you is another amazing track by k.t.b...it also stars Donald Sutherland. She was also friends of the early 80s British comedy scene which is why Hugh Laurie and Dawn French are in the video.

    Greetings!
If I remember correctly the backstory of the song, it was like this: the record company wanted a song from Kate just for the best of album. So that fans who already have all records are forced to buy the best of for Experiment IV. That's how Kate created this song. The government is the metaphor for this record company.
    Edit: sorry, Military not government

Kate Bush does anything else need to be said. Hounds of Love was the first album I bought. I wore out the cassette from listening to it so much. Then The Whole Story came out and introduced me to her past and this new song. Been a fan since. I still listen to The Hounds of Love and The kick Inside from time to time, my favorites.

The creepy thing about this is that there were experiments carried out involving "infra-sound", or extremely deep vibrations which presumably could destroy one's internal organs, using sympathetic Hertz frequencies, causing organs to undulate violently, causing death.
However, the experiments were plagued with impractical difficulties relating to proximity to the source. We can't 'kill someone from a distance' with sound as Kate's song suggested, they have to be practically right next to the weapon, in the right spot, hahaha!! So, as you said, Government efficiency, at it again, Lol...

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx 3 года назад

Sadly you can still do it if you can focus the sound waves producing a 'beam' of sound which would be called a Saser (like laser).
Beam forming through converging multiple sound sources on a single point to create a stronger signal is also another method - this is how modern cell/mobile towers and WiFi routers work to get max signal in bad conditions.

This video featured a number of actors and actresses, mostly normally associated in the UK with comedy! And yes, that was Hugh Laurie who was very much known as a comedian before moving to the USA for the medical drama House.

Maybe you find the song unremarkable as it was a sole creation for her 'hits' album The Whole Story from 1986... the kind of now obligatory 'new song' that's shoehorned into a collection whether we like it or not... personally I get what you mean but have always enjoyed the cinematic narrative when paired with the video...

The USA would use loud music from heavy metal bands to torture their victims in prisons in Quantanmo. When heavy metal bands heard this they would criticize the government. The concept of this video was based on truth.

@@MikeandGinger with the volume up loud 24/7 locked in a sound sound proof room. And in some cases they were strapped to a chair, in a dark room, a black head covering, earphones on and loud music. This was a form of many torturous methods. Kate Bush was trying to highlight what was happening at the time with the military. Although I think this practice wasn't new at the time any not just with the USA Government. Many other Governments and institutions that dealt with getting information and confessions out of people were and are just as guilty.
